SMT 5 Vengeance PS5 PS4

A new Korean age rating for an updated version of Nintendo Switch exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V was posted online overnight before being quickly pulled, suggesting Atlus plans to re-release the JRPG in the future. Named Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, the listing mentioned "improvements and additional content" and could be the multi-platform port that was datamined out of the original release a few years ago.

Over two years ago in November 2021, a datamine into the backend of SMT V found mentions of a PS4 version, but no confirmation of such an edition being in the works has been shared by Atlus. The old GeForce Now leak also mentioned a PC version was on the way a couple of years ago, but it too hasn't made it to release either yet. As Atlus likes to bring its titles to new platforms with updated versions, it's possible this Vengeance edition could signal the arrival of the RPG on PS5, PS4.

What's more a Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase is rumoured to take place later this week. The enhanced version may be announced as part of the Switch's digital showcase and then confirmed for new consoles after the fact.

First released for Nintendo Switch in November 2021, our sister site Nintendo Life awarded a 9/10 rating at launch and shared praise for its combat and compelling content. Criticisms were aimed at a poor frame rate and generally subpar performance, which you'd think would be fixed in a current-gen port. "Shin Megami Tensei V is a modern masterpiece," the site said. "It successfully delivers on all the aspects that have made the series thus far so popular with fans—namely through its high difficulty, heavy narrative themes, and expansive team-building options—while polishing up and tightening the weaker aspects."
