UK Sales Charts: Gran Turismo 7 Falls Behind While LEGO Star Wars' Reign Continues

These sales charts always have around 5 if the same games constantly. Why do people keep buying the same games over and over, year on year? I'm looking at you, switch users

@Blaze215 People dont buy the same games over and over.

What you'll find is happening, is every person that buys a new system, will wants games to play on said system. So with every new console sold, a game will go with it.

In that case, the game's that go with it, are likely to be the most readily available, easily understood and widest appeal titles.

As such, for every Switch, per your example, that is sold, the odds that a new purchaser buys a communal experience like Animal Crossing, a popular kids experience like Minecraft, or a simple pick up and play fun title like Mario Kart, is exceptionally high.

Think about how FIFA stays in the charts. Every time someone buys a new PS4 or Xbox, especially here in football country, they will buy FIFA for that system. It is one of if not the most mass market titles ever, to the point older games are going for 20p due to flooding the pre-owned market, as each game sells so well but loses its value exactly one year later to the point of being worthless.

Then, because people want the next version, FIFA 23 will shoot up the charts and stay there.

It is a long sustainable game of retaining consumers, and with each new console sold to someone, said games are likely to go with it.

So no, it's not just a Switch thing, it just feels that way because the system has many, many evergreen titles.

Until we start seeing a sales chart that includes both physical and digital sales only then will we be getting the full picture of how well certain games are selling, reporting on only physical sales seems kind of redundant 🤷🏻‍♂️

@Blaze215 Kids are not really buying digital. They're parents or relatives are usually buying them physical. Some businessmen also mostly buy these safe for kids Switch games in bulk from the UK or US and sell them all over the world. It's not surprising to me when they keep reigning these PHYSICAL charts.

@Blaze215 Switch is a portable console, so if you like a game, you'll want a copy for your living room, your bedroom, anywhere else you play.

@Blaze215 because Mario Kart and Animal Crossing are fantastic games and anyone that sits down to play them a little bit at a friends house decide they too must own them too.

Why does GTA V literally never leave the top ten charts, despite being a nearly nine-year-old game? Looking at you, Playstation users.

The answer, of course, is that Rockstar and Nintendo put out wildly popular titles that people buy consoles to play for years after release. Usually at or near full price.

@Haruki_NLI The utter disposability of sports titles like FIFA, Madden, and whatnot is fascinating to me. I'll never understand why it matters if team rosters are up-to-date or not in a video game.

@themightyant I'm amazed it took this long to get more DLC for MK8D. Although, from the perspective of someone who has been playing this game off and on since it first launched on the Wii U, I'm very happy it's finally getting some support.

Little Kids and because tons of people only buy a Switch to play the same handful of Nintendo games.

Those Lego Star Wars sales (Physical+Digital) are only 16% on Switch.

Most cash goes to the same Switch evergreen games regardless of what is "New". That is just how it is.
