While the PS Vita storefront will remain open for the foreseeable future – following a dramatic U-turn from the Japanese giant – Sony is sticking to its original plan of ceasing to accept submissions for the handheld’s PS Store from 20th July, meaning a final batch of new releases will deploy tomorrow. A couple of indie developers have reached out to us to confirm that their projects have made the deadline; here’s what you can look forward to.
- Russian Subway Dogs: Inspired by the real-life stray dogs of the Moscow Metro – the name was a giveaway, eh? – this arcade experience from Spooky Squid Games will find you stealing food and juggling vodka (!) across a full-length campaign and a procedurally generated arcade mode.
- Ultra Mission: A top-down shooter from Gumbo Machine, inspired by the likes of Robotron 2084. With a combo system and an infinite gameplay loop, the developer’s promising an arcade experience that – despite carrying a budget, $2.99 price point – will keep you playing for some time.
These are the two that we received press releases for, but there’s a good chance that several others will deploy tomorrow, and we’ll keep you up to date as more information emerges. Will you be supporting these PS Vita stalwarts? Charge up Sony’s cult portable console, and let us know in the comments section below.

Let's hope with all the hype that the Steam Deck produced this leads to a PS Vita 2.
I would love a new Vita so bad 😓
Sucks that they didn't convey this to developers who had to then can years of work or crunch, and this was the bit they didn't backpedal on. Oh well.
@Haruki_NLI Playstation seemed to have transitioned from a company that cared about nurturing indies to flicking the V in their general direction. Don't like the way this is going...
Devs, just lower the price point, release what you’ve got, and let your work see the light of day! Just call out the “non-optimally-perfected-experience” (n.o.p.e.) in the game’s description, and tack on a wild Ghosts n Goblins’ “congraturation” closing text at the end of the experience.
Don’t let all that hard work and effort go for naught.
My wallet is ready. My PS4 is just collecting dust these days I seem to be finishing games and getting the occasional platinum trophy on PS Vita more and more as the months go on. I just can't put this console down, it's so fun and addictive to play. The suspend feature is just fantastic.
ScourgeBringer is cross save with Vita and PS4 right? If so I need to get on that as a swan song for my trusty lil Vita.
Buy all three and support those who tried to keep the system alive.
VITA > SWITCH
@SeanOhOgain I totally read the headline that way too
Just a quick thanks to all of these devs and also the ones that tried and couldn't make the deadline. It's the last trip to Vita Island, but it's a good one. Cheers!
@Jeevz i havent picked it up yet but understand the game has neither cross-buy or cross-save. Something to do with the games having a different trophy list. 🤷♂️
I know they just squeezed a patch in before the deadline for submitting new content which adds mid-run saves though
@mrtennis1990 We've yet to see if Steam Deck will SELL will.
£4 FOMO preorders were through the roof though /jk
But a new PS handheld that is basically a PS4 with access to your whole library, PS Now and PS5 via link would be perfect.
@Jacko11 Sorry but Lol,
Switch > Vita.
@jgrangervikings1 great comment, congraturation!
@EVIL-C lol, good one
@Rob_230 no cross saves? Bummer
@Jacko11 Indeed, Switch is a good one. 😉😁
@EVIL-C but not as good as the VITA 😉
Is it still the case that any game releasing with cross-buy PS4 and Vita versions will still be allowed though?
The Eastern European stray dogs situation is pretty bad, a lot of dogs and pups end up getting euthanized. Wonder if the game has any awareness message?
It was a great machine. I think it should've been released in 2015, after inintial success of ps4
RIP new Vita games, but at least the store is still alive?
Ultra Mission looks more like Berzerk than Robotron.
@mrtennis1990 Maybe a portable PS5 is better. That way they won't have to waterdown their games for the handheld.
