NEO: The World Ends With You was first announced at the end of last year, giving fans of the franchise something to look forward to after a very long wait. The original game, a Nintendo DS title released in 2008, became a beloved cult hit, and Square Enix is finally revisiting the series with this fresh take. The follow-up is coming to PlayStation 4, and it's just received a brand new trailer and screenshots.

Set in a fictional version of Shibuya, Tokyo, the game is about several teams of competitors in the Reapers' Game, a battle for survival. You play as Rindo, who leads his team, the Wicked Twisters, through Shibuya, fighting monsters known as the Noise and competing in battles with other teams. In combat, you equip each party member with a pin badge, which allows them to use one of their psych abilities. There will be hundreds of these pins to discover, so you'll have to experiment to find the best combinations.

Inspired by manga, the game has a stylised look and features lots of characters; it looks like it'll be a pretty dialogue-heavy experience outside of the action. Additionally, the original game's composer Takeharu Ishimoto is back for NEO, producing new music as well as remixes of fan favourite tracks.

Most importantly, we now have a release date: NEO: The World Ends With You arrives on PS4 on 27th July, and it's available for pre-order on PlayStation Store now. Doing so will net you a Legendary Threads set, which will lend you a helping hand in the early game with a few interesting stat buffs, and you'll also get a batch of PSN avatars. Neat.
