Keiichiro Toyama, the creator of franchises like Silent Hill and Gravity Rush, has teased that he’s collaborating with a “famous Japanese creator”. The former Japan Studio man left Sony earlier in the year to form a new independent team named Bokeh Game Studio, and is working on a horror title alongside fellow veterans Junya Okura and Kazunobu Sato – the latter of whom was a lead designer on Puppeteer.
As part of an interview with Al Hub, he talked a little more about the project: “We’re obviously still at an early period, so there’s not a lot we can actually say, but we are looking to create an experience that can be enjoyed widely by a range of people. So, for example, we intend for our game to have a setting in Asian cities. One thing we can say is that, we are working hard right now to collaborate with a famous creator in Japan, and that’s something we haven’t been open about before.”
Obviously, there’ll be a lot of speculation about who exactly this person is: it could be an artist, musician, or someone else entirely. To be fair, the title’s not due out until at least 2023, so we’ll probably need to wait quite some time before finding out. Sounds like there’s exciting times ahead for the burgeoning Bokeh Game Studio, though – we can’t wait to see what it brings to the table.

Hayao Miyazaki? Masashi Kishimoto?
I does sounds interesting.... now we just need to wait for 2023 to come. Hopefully I won't forget about it by then or, even worse, it gets cancel (for whatever reason). You never know with this stuff.
Honestly, the project was announced way to early, but I kinda know why he/they did it....
Harada is reportedly working on the game with the highest budget Bandai-Namco has ever produced...
God, I hope it's Junji Ito!
Image really scary
Creator in what way? One can dream its a junji ito collab
Mark Cerny?
Scalebound is back🤔nah just jiving.hopefully its a horror game similar to dead space.word up son
Every horror creator is gangsta till they see Junji Ito's work.
Either Hideo Kojima or Junji Ito.
My hopes of seeing Gravity Rush 3 is now dead thanks to Ryan ruining their Japanese studio.
@malbhet Japan Studio was going nowhere long before Jim Ryan took charge. They just couldn't produce hits.
I think it's probably Junji Ito
@malbhet this is such a naive statement of someone that knows nothing about the matter and Japan Studio's situation as a studio.... From some time now Japan Studio only saving grace has been their collaborations projects with other studios, not their own original games. They were giving the chance to change that multiple times, but they didn't took it.
Also, Gravity Rush 2 was a commercial flop, so you weren't going to get Gravity Rush 3 ever...
@AdamNovice From 2013 - 17, they put out Puppeteer, Gravity Rush 2, and The Last Guardian. All of which are very solid games.
@ThroughTheIris56
Solid games maybe , good sellers no and at the end of the days that's what matters, no good pouring money into something that's not making money
Really a lot of people on here should never run a business as they will be bankrupt within a month
@ThroughTheIris56 As @suikoden said. A game's overall quality goes so far. If it doesn't appeal to a big enough audience then it just won't make money. I wish Japan Studio didn't go but it's naive to think that a studio can keep going without making profit.
@suikoden The Last Guardian actually sold pretty well (1.3 million according to VGChartz). Granted it most likely made a loss because of technical issues during development, but the point is the game is obviously appealing enough to sell, and such delays aren't typical and only really occurred to the nature of the project.
As for the other 2 games, they can't really sell well if they aren't marketed properly. It's the developers job to make a game good, and it's the publishers job to get people to buy it. If the game is good but sells badly, the people who did their job well aren't the ones that should be fired.
Even if there was no way Japan Studio's game could ever make a profit (which I don't believe), Sony most likely could afford to keep them open with the amount WWS as a whole brings in. Granted they are a business so they are entitlement to do what they want for maximum profit, doesn't mean I won't call them greedy and compare them to EA.
Seeing Toyama return to horror has me quite curious.
@Deadlyblack Yep, Siren had such an awesome atmosphere, and sightjacking was a cool mechanic. Will be interesting to see what else he comes up with.
@ThroughTheIris56 The Last Guardian like the previous Team Ico games was a little masterpiece. Fumito Ueda, like Hidetaka Miyazaki is a genius who creates amazing artistic games. Despite those sales of 1.3 million The Last Guardian definitely lost money as it was in development for 9 years, Sony continued with it as they believed in Ueda's vision - he signed with Epic Games in March 2020 for an unannounced game that started development in 2018, so we'll likely see that around 2026!
@Profondo I loved the game, it's a real shame about the technical issues because we could have potentially had another game by now. That is why I did respect Sony a lot before, because they were originally committed to sticking with an artistic vision, even if would cost them financially. But yeah, definitely looking forward to whatever he brings out next.
