Rarely do new intellectual properties become sales sensations, but Sony has struck gold with Ghost of Tsushima. The PlayStation 4 exclusive, which launched in July 2020, has now surpassed 6.5 million copies โ which is seriously impressive.
Almost as impressive is the fact that the open world adventure has been completed by more than half of the people who bought it (that's around 3.25 million players). Given that completion statistics for a non-linear game like Ghost of Tsushima are typically quite low, that's a real achievement.
It's also worth mentioning that a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima is almost certainly in development. And with sales numbers like this, why wouldn't it be?
The future's looking bright for Sucker Punch's newest property, then โ and not just because it's getting a movie adaptation.

Surprised it wasn't more. Although I guess it is a new IP
Awesome game, Sucker Punch deserves all the praise it gets! One of the best games I played last year.
Good numbers! I canโt even imagine what a current gen sequel will look like!!
I will be purchasing this soon.
100%! Best game ever so far this generation for me. Its like a grown man's Zelda in a way!!! Cant wait for the sequel.
@Saucymonk better jump on it. You are missing out on a masterpiece!
That has it make it one of the best-selling Sucker Punch games, right? Their games were never particularly big sellers.
Favourite game of last year. Really pleased for the developers and look forward to the sequel on PS5.
Very enjoyable if familiar experience, which isn't a dig - I don't often bother with trophies but got the platinum for GoT so clearly I was into it. Need to go back and try the Legends mode some time.
For the sequel's version of the Kurosawa mode I'd love something like a Shogun Assassin filter, all chromatic aberrations and that amazing synth soundtrack ๐๐ป
Goty 2020.word ๐ up son
@smbeats. Ghost of tshushima. Plays nothing like zelda its a masterpiece.for sure.play more like tenchu.sekiro.onimusha.and ninja gaiden.word up son
With over 100 million PS4's sold, what on earth are people buying if they are missing out on gems like this!
Congratulations Sucker Punch. You deserve every single sale, and more
Not played but will probably wait until its on plus just before the sequel releases. Great to know there are awesome games still to look forward to though.
Congrats for SP, itโs a great game, already spend 75 hours in the game, canโt wait to finish and platinum it ๐
@art_of_the_kill Still loved all their games though just finished Infamous First Light bought on day one never started it damn it was short and sweet.
@playstation1995 wait a min , i never said it played like Zelda SON! Im giving an opinion just like you are SON!
@Rob_230 Thats why we dont get nice things... โน๏ธ
Great numbers, especially for a new IP.
Congratulations to Sucker Punch.
@smbeats. You said its like a grown man zelda.and i dont see it๐ค๐ด๐.its more onimusha.tenchu.word up son
@playstation1995 lol yeah don't worry about it son , but you have good taste in games , both were great!
i could not get into this game for the longest time but i'm finally coming around to it now and starting to enjoy it
It's one of my favorite PS4 games. Really loved it from start to finish. Legends was a huge surprise and a lot of fun too! But now I'm wondering, we don't often see sales figures for PlayStation games. It'd be nice to see a list of best selling PS4 games now that the generation is "over". Is there such a list? I mean, obviously it'd full of CoDs and FIFAs, but I'm more interested in the first party stuff
Just purchased last weekend. Wanted to wait till I had ps5,
Well if they had any sense they'd port it to Xbox so they could sell a lot more copies.
My personal GOTY in 2020. Such an amazing and gorgeous game ๐ I platinumed it too
@__jamiie Yes port a game to a competitor's system, that makes a LOT of sense...
@Nepp67 I know. It was sarcasm directed towards the PlayStation fanboys who think that Microsoft should port future Bethesda games to PS5 just so they can achieve bigger sales numbers.
@__jamiie Same goes for Microsoft. I don't think anyone here is saying that they should port it over though. I want a reason to buy their system not less of a reason.
@Flaming_Kaiser Completely agree ๐ญ
Fantastic, cannot wait to try it out soon!
Would be great to add information about other well selling titles as well and maybe which ones were the best in the past? That would be great stuff for an article. If I remember correctly TLoU2 is best selling PS game ever?
And last of us part 2? Lol. Did it really never reached 5m?
@Nepp67 I completely agree with you. However if you read a lot of the comments on here around the Bethesda acquisition, you'll see that many, many people are of the opinion that Microsoft would be fools to NOT port their games to PlayStation. Have a look.
@Rob_230 100 million sold, but probably less than 20 million players that play something other the yearly rehash games.
GoTY 2020. Atmosphere is absolutely amazing and the combat is superb. I felt like a samurai warrior.
@__jamiie Bethesda stuff is associated with being 3rd party and have massive amounts of PS fans. You know why it's different with this acquisition, no PS only players are asking for Halo or Gears to be ported lol... Use common sense, people just want to play where they've always been playing.
Back on topic, I'm glad I waiting to play this on PS5, heard it's really good.
@Omnistalgic My point was about the people saying that Microsoft would be mad to not port them to PlayStation. Sony bought Sucker Punch 10 years ago so let's see if people still see Bethesda as multiplatform in 10 years time.
@__jamiie well that's dumb logic because MS is literally one of the richest companies on the planet lol. 10 years from now point taken, but this acquisition just happened so people are rightfully (IMO) requesting some of their favorite franchises not change direction. MS stance is not clear either as it's still pretty much case-by-case basis and "some games will be exclusive some will not". while everything is still up in the air you're gonna have a lot of people voice what they want to happen.
