Who is she? That’s the question Clank asks in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s first trailer, but we still don’t really have an answer. Well, we know that she is on the game’s cover and that she will probably be playable – but just who is that female Lombax at the centre of the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive’s marketing materials?
Fans reckon they’ve figured out her name. A post on Reddit – but we’ve seen the exact same theory shared on social media and various forums – is based on a tease from a PlayStation Blog post, where creative director Marcus Smith hinted that fans will be feeling “rosy” regarding the new character soon. Rosie, then, right?
Well, possibly, but fans have also hypothesised that the clue could be pointing to World War II promo poster Rosie the Riveter, suggesting that the character’s name may be Rivet. That would make sense, given the rift-spanning storyline: she’d be the yin to Ratchet’s yang. With a 11th June release date scheduled, we should find out for sure shortly.

This game is gonna be so dang good. June can't come soon enough...
The yin to Ratchet's yang would mean she's an opposite that's complimentary, which the name Rivet doesn't fit.
As for 'feeling rosy', I didn't think it was that kind of game 😆
@Hyperluminal Ratchet & Rivet works though IMO - analysis aside, the names go quite well toghether. The yin/yang stuff is just fancy sounding words, somewhat misapplied
I dunno, Rosie sounds kinda trashy. For £70 I expect better.
I'm really fond of the fan-given name Mallette, plus if she is meant to be an alternate version of Ratchet (Personally don't think she is), wouldn't it make more sense for her to be named after her weapon of choice like Ratchet is?
I have a theory that the female Lombax is the daughter of Alister Azimuth, alternate version of course.
Can someone explain to me where the Rivot name came from? Or what significance the name has?
@danlk1ng I'm sure you're right. I agree, the two names have pleasing alliteration so I'd say it's possible, if a little uninspired. Ratchet is a tool so maybe follow that precedent and call her Wrench?
@JustPlainLoco Ratchet wields a wrench (in the UK we're more likely to call it a spanner though) - and to the best of my knowledge, it doesn't have a ratchet in it
@JustPlainLoco a rivet is a fastener, something that joins two materials together, like a screw without a thread, but its applied using a riveter or a rivet gun which pushes with pneumatic force the rivet into place through the two materials. Think of ship and aircraft manufacturing, where sheets of metal are riveted together
@Hyperluminal that was riveting
@JustPlainLoco from Wikipedia:
"Jean Francois Rivet High School, Vincennes Rivet High School, or simply Rivet High School (within Vincennes) is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Vincennes, Indiana. It is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Evansville."
Hope that helps!
@danlk1ng yep, you nailed it 😊
I could see Rosie. It kinda rolls off the tongue when paired with Ratchet, like "Ratchet and Rosie".
Cool. That’s my girlfriend’s name and maybe this will get her into gaming. I mean, it’s a long shot but it’s worth a try lol.
@Hyperluminal I feel like Wrench is a little too close to wench. Not to mention, it doesn't really roll off the tongue as someone's name.
If it's between the two... God I hope it's Rivet. For some reason, naming her Rosie makes me think of the 80's and 90's where the girl version of a popular male character needed to just be stereotypical "girl"
Edit: Just realized why, most of them end with -ee sounding names. Minnie to Mickey, Daisy to Donald, Brittany to Alvin, etc.
@Brydontk it doesn't roll off the tongue, until it does. Who'd expect Ratchet to be a name, but familiarity with it means it sounds perfectly normal now.
As for wench, I thought of that but discounted it because Insomniac are American and probably won't even think of that. After all we call a wrench a spanner over here 😊
@Brydontk Rosie and Jim is what I think of. Hated that show.
@kyleforrester87 my names rosie
I'm guessing to keep everyone happy this new lomax will have to be gender neutral and want to be identified as a 'wrench'
@Scoobydrew That's right up there with an attack helicopter joke
@Hyperluminal As far as the "not expecting Ratchet to be a name" thing, fair enough. But I'm stiiiiill not crazy about Wrench (don't hate me xDD). The short sounding -e with the -ch sound just sounds gross as a name. Interesting tidbit about spanners though, didn't know that.
And after looking up Rosie and Jim, I'm sorry you all were subjected to that, that also looks gross xDDD
@Brydontk ahh you're from across the pond. It wasn't you not recognising Rosie and Jim, is was using the word 'tidbit'. We say 'titbit' over here because we like tits 😄😄
Yeah Wrench probably isn't a good fit for a lady, but Rosie is just not doing it for me. Also makes me think of Rosanne Barr, and I really don't want to do that 😆
So if it’s Rosy (or Rosie) and we’ll apparently all be “feeling rosy very soon” then that’s one shocking development I never imagined! Isn’t this game meant for kids
@kyleforrester87 - (Insert Phillip J Fry squinting meme)
Call her Goggles Pisano cause she's wearing goggles. Hardy har har
