We've known for a while now that Sony plans to capitalise on its gaming IPs by expanding their capabilities with movies and TV shows, and PlayStation boss Jim Ryan talked a big game at CES 2021 as this expansion begins to take effect. Mentioning the upcoming Uncharted film and HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us, he chatted about how this is just the beginning of Sony's efforts.
"This is just the beginning of the expansion of our storytelling into new media and even wider audiences. Sony is a creative entertainment company and entertainment has never been more important." What other PlayStation IPs do you hope get their own TV shows or big-screen adaptations? Share your own list in the comments below.

Let’s see a franchise that isn’t already completely cinematic. Why in the world would anybody want to see a straight adaptation of a 15-20 hour game crammed down into a TV show or movie?
@nessisonett Uncharted is a prequel, so not a 15-20 hour game and TLoU is TV series so many episodes. Both should be entertaining.
Spider-Man would make a good film.
😉
If that's too outlandish a concept then the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War and Days Gone will have to do.
Some people might not be keen on these coming to the big screen or small but I'll keep an open mind!
I hope it fails. Witcher is the best video game related I've seen and it's just an ok show with potential. I am tired of these tv adaptation.
Well. To answer. Horizon, GoW, Ghost, InFamous, Killzone and Death Stranding (oh wait, it's already a movie),
An animated Sly Cooper series would be good. Im not sure things like Horizon and God of War really need to make the jump.
God of war with the more realistic tone of the latest game has potential legs.
Horizon is probably too out there and days gone has been done to death.
I don't know. The clothes scream Drake, but I really don't know that Holland does. I really don't have any faith this will be good. It's gonna be fail like every other video game movie ever has.
@solocapers I Think Resistance Would Make a Great Tv Show a World War 2 Setting Where Both The Allies And The Axis Powers Have To Fight Off The Chimera's Invasion Of Europe.
Yo, can yhey srop that Sly Cooper animated flick that was in production? The Ratchet movie was pretty meh but it seemed like Sly was pretty far along.
You just can’t not like Tom Holland - I think he’ll do well as a young Drake.
@Areus Yeah.... that’s what we need right now - a show where the Nazis team up with the ‘goodies’ 😂😂
@LiterallyDoNotCare Why would you like too see something fail i hope its good. Whats the issue if its going too be a good show or movie?
@solocapers A good Horizon Zero Dawn movie adaptation would be awsome. But im happy i dont have too make a movie that is liked by nerds (me) and the standard movie/ series watcher also me. 🤪
@RudeAnimat0r The Ratchet movie would have been great if they hadn’t butchered the plot of the original game so they could force Nefarious on us yet again. I liked him in R&C3 but they’ve done him to death at this point. I really hope he isn’t in the new R&C game. I’ll be so disappointed.
@Flaming_Kaiser They keep trying to make video games, movies and I'm too dissapointed in general already.
If Uncharted and The Last of Us fail, there is no way games can be translated into movies, so I hope it fails so devs stop trying to ruin the name of the franchises with movies.
Monster Hunter had m4 and aks, Assassin creed movie was meh, Tomb raider was meh, wow was meh, detective pikachu was ok, the witcher is just ok. DOOM annhilition was horrible and doom with the rock looks bad. Resident Evil always get bad scores. Etc... etc.. etc... It's time to stop. It just doesn't work and I am especially worried they handle those 2 ip in the wrong way and I just don't want them to keep ruining gaming stories to non gamers and gamers.
Also, this motivates video game creators to focus more on cutscenes. Half of Tlou 2 was walking and talking or cutscenes. DS seemed it didn't have a gameplay director.
The gaming stories should stay where they were intended for. Games
@fR_eeBritney I’m like 99% sure that Doctor Nefarious was in the trailer for Rift Apart!
last of us is HBO isn't it, and they've been making movies for years, half of which are usually garbage, what I know of their TV stuff produced themselves is also garbage, they're never going to invest in the current market not with Netflix Amazon and now you have Apple and Disney trying to carve up the market along with the usually local stuff like the in the UK SKY.
@Col_McCafferty Boy do I have news for you on that Spider-Man movie
parappa the rapper
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Wait are you implying that HBO shows are garbage?
God of war seems good for a netflix/hbo shows 😃
Give me a animated Bloodborne series and I'm pleased.
@LightingThor007 less implying, more directly saying so.
This probably means some kind of God of War epic, but could also mean some stupid Crash Bandicoot show ha
Not a Sony IP obviously, but Hotline Miami would make a killer (😉) film.
Nic Cage to star, Panos Cosmatos to direct.
Sly Cooper Netflix mini series perhaps?
Would also love for a reattempt of the Ratchet & Clank movie (again could be a 8-10 ep series) but actually be loyal to the original PS2 storylines.
@fR_eeBritney i'm pretty sure he's the main villain in rift apart
Where is that SLY COOPER MOVIE SONY!? You know the one announced that was suppose to come out in 2016?
Bit I suppose the R&C one tanked, so not holding my breath!
Heh, video games still haven't figured out how to tell a story unique to their medium for the most part, so what makes anyone think that adaptations will work? The ones we've had so far are more misses than swings by a country mile.
Also, story-driven, movie-like games such as TLOU and UC are just the most boring idea one could have, since they're going to either replicate the games without interactivity, or tell a side story or a prequel that could've easily worked as a game.
I don't like storylines being splintered across multiple media and I don't think a movie-only prequel or spin-off can be inherently better than a game doing the same thing, so I just don't get the point.
If you're gonna reply "money", yeah, I know that.
Call me naïve, but when a media project is unveiled I think about it as an artistic endeavor, not as its viability as a commercial product.
If I did so, I wouldn't be a consumer, I'd be a stakeholder, and there wouldn't be any need for anything to exist, as long as it rakes in cash.
Edit: a Sly Cooper cartoon would be sick, and I'm not even nostalgic for the character (I didn't have a PS2 growing up)!
@LiterallyDoNotCare I really liked the Tombraider movie but besides that i agree that they should watch out not making a game look bad. But who knows maybe they will be great.
Resident Evil games are fantastic games but the story wasnt the greatest thing about it the same goes for Doom. But you do have a point but we should not forget Sony is a big player in movie entertainment.
Lets hope the bigwigs can put their big ego's to the side and work together too make the best products possible.
@clvr I would love too see a build up too the first breakout from the Last of Us it sounds awsome.
@LightingThor007 HBO being garbage is the most stupid thing I have heard! they are at the pinnacle of great TV!
& wanting things to fail is a really crappy attitude man.
@David187 I’m shocked as well HBO literally have the greatest TVs shows out there but if he thinks that well that’s on him.
@Flaming_Kaiser that would actually a cool setup for a series!
The only "issue" I'd see with it is that it probably would be even more interesting to explore it in video game form, since the series is VG-based.
That's basically where my ambivalence towards these VG-based movies and series comes from, I'm not sure they would add something that a video game sequel/prequel couldn't do.
@Flaming_Kaiser I hope. Sorry for being so negative. I'm just tired of it. My facebook timeline, when it comes to witcher, it's full of Henry Canvill handsomeness and nothing about the tv show itself. I don't think they are converting non gamers to gamers, which I think xcloud would do a better job at that.
@LightingThor007 I remember that horrible cgi for the deer in a walking dead episode. HBO wouldn't let that slide. HBO is quality. WD was cheap because of the makeup
@LiterallyDoNotCare Yeah i understand and after the destruction of Resident Evil with the movies can blame you. 😉
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L I was making the distinction between HBO produced content and Sony, HBO isn't Sony, Sony is garbage half of the time
@LightingThor007 nope, that HBO is not Sony and that Sony produces garbage
@Slippship Yeah, RDR series would make a fantastic TV show. Probably in terms of the characters, story and setting it's the most obvious game to adapt.
Godless, Deadwood, Westworld (S1 anyway) have shown the way. Why not Red Dead?
There is going to be an Assassin's Creed series, some Resi ones as well as a new film, a Fallout show and talk of The Elder Scrolls as well.
Red Dead must surely be next in line.
🤔
