Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the Gran Turismo franchise, has revealed that this year’s GT Sport support will be “modest in frequency and volume”. Polyphony Digital has, of course, been updating its simulation racer regularly since release in 2017, and it has blossomed into a quite brilliant package overall.
But next week’s update will include just three vehicles – significantly less than fans have come to anticipate:
The timing is fascinating, because it’s been widely speculated for some time now that Gran Turismo 7 could be a launch title for the PlayStation 5. Speaking at an event in Australia earlier in the month, Yamauchi said that he’d like to achieve framerates of 240fps for future releases in the franchise, adding that he believes 4K resolution is “good enough”.

As long as it has great single player support, sign me up.
I think a hypothetical GT7 will include all of the multiplayer stuff from GT Sport, and add in a campaign to the side.
It'd be a great launch game because they can just continue updating it all generation.
GT sport really became awesome after a imo a rough start. The amount of content that they've added for free has been remarkable. Hopefully when GT7 is released it doesn't start out with less than GTS has and builds upon it instead. Also wishing for a more "traditional" campaign. I for one enjoy starting off with little money and a crappy Civic or 180sx and working my way up vs everything basically being unlocked from the start.
I just hope my T300RS will be compatible with the PS5.
I hope gt7 has single player "carpg" like previous series since I don't like to race online. Oh, and don't make it always online like gt sport.
He's right 4K resolution is more than good enough, I'm really hoping this one has an actual single player game in it this time as even with all the updates it was still pretty basic
Hopefully the return of the used garage so I can find a cheap second hand nice little motor, give it a quick oil change, win the Sunday Cup and slowly pimp it to be a 500bhp rocket!
When people say “traditional campaign” what do they mean? Has gran turismo ever had this? One and two had similar solo structure to sport didn’t they? Trophies... and cups.... with licenses? Isnt that the gran turismo way? Not trying to be funny? Just wondering did I miss a proper campaign mode in any Gran Turismo? If they haven’t done one yet I can’t see in the age of online them suddenly changing format for solo players??
GT7 needs online VR multiplayer. Or I'm not buying it
@ApostateMage Oh yeah, that's the game I miss!
Would love a single player focused GT7 with licences and little money to start. Was good fun slowly improving vehicles and buying new ones for different series...
@seanobi l totally agree with VR multiplayer support and actually I'm sure there's no reason why ps5 couldn't handle being able to play all parts of the game in VR.... but l can't agree with GTsports VR inclusion being a joke, I've had probably hundreds of hours of immense fun playing the VR time trial mode, with a wheel and seat l can't fault it. my only criticism of GTsport is not having the classic GT tracks to play on
I just need fullllllllllllll VR support. The very limited VR mode in GT:S already spoiled me from ever enjoying a flat racing sim ever again
GT 7 won't happen before a PS5 version of GT Sport though
@stefan771 GT7 will be GT Sport with bells, whistles and hopefully a campaign!
@Stocksy kind of. The cups in GT Sport don't actually mean anything, you don't win money to pimp your ride or open new cups they are all just there.
It's been a long time since I last played GTS, but back then the actual SP races in a cup don't have points or an overall leader board, they are just individual races tagged together which makes it pointless.
If you missed GT4 or 5 they had meaty campaigns.
I just want the classic campaign of taking average cars and turning them into beasts. A large car, track, and race count.
Used cars! GT2 is still my favorite because the average Joe could find the very car he drives irl and slowly make it awesome. It was like going from backyard racing league up to the big time. Man, the thrill it would give you when you finally did everything you could to the car, then slapped the Racing Modifications body kit on it. I'll never understand why they went away from the GT2 formula. Imagine if they just expanded on it! More cars in the used dealer, more tracks, more physical upgrades along with the parts upgrades. Gt Sport was fun for awhile but it always felt like a demo without the single player mode of old games.
@themcnoisy yeah I’ll be honest I did. I had them both but never actually played them. Not sure why. Back log blues. Been playing sport and really enjoy and the cups thing is almost identical to how I remember 1&2 and I think 3... so it’s what I was expecting. Yeah if 4&5 had campaigns it’s a shame this doesn’t. I’ve enjoyed it either way
Why would the PS4 be the only Playstation to not have a proper Gran turismo game? And only have one Gran turismo at that? I think there is a lot to suggest Gran turismo 7 will be a PS4 game. Plus PS5 will play PS4 games so everyone would be a winner.
Gran turismo is the kind of game that requires a large console install base, it'll take PS5 a while to achieve that and PS5 doesn't need Gran turismo to sell consoles at the early stages of its lifespan. I'm personally hoping it'll be a PS4 game for a number of reasons. I'm not getting a PS5 until the PS5 slim comes out and I reckon my Logitech g29 will not be compatible with the PS5 if history is anything to go by. I want it on PS4.
My personal bet is that Gran Turismo 7 will feature an open world mode of sorts with GT Sport elements.
