Persona 5 sales have jumped a surprising amount since we last heard about how well the super stylish role-playing game was doing. Previously, the title had hit 2.7 million copies -- this was back in August -- but since then, it's actually smashed through 3 million units, which is pretty impressive considering the arrival of Persona 5 Royal in Japan, and its recently revealed March 2020 release date here in the West.
Atlus released the following image to celebrate, which is a nice touch:
What's more, the aforementioned Persona 5 Royal has topped 400,000 units in Japan, meaning that it's well on its way to half a million. The series as a whole is now pushing beyond 11 million sales.

I think it can do a lot more if the game launch both in japan and english in day one rather than taking many month like now. The hype will be way greater.
@wiiware Tend to agree, it's still one of Atlus' big problems. Persona 5 sold really well in the West — no real excuse not to release future instalments worldwide day and date.
Really pleased about this. Hopefully the wait for Persona 6 won't take as long as the wait between 4 and 5.
I'm looking forward to P5 Royal, but its still only an expansion of what i have played before. It will be really interesting to know exactly how much new content we are getting.
Regardless, P5 remains in my top 3 of this generation with Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War. More Persona is only a good thing!
At least Atlus localizations usually tend to be reasonably quick these days. I feel bad for Kiseki fans who have to spend years wondering when the next game in the series will be localized.
I had some issues with Persona 5 (primarily the combat, which is easy and kind of brain-dead after a while), but it's my favorite Persona game, and I'm glad it did well.
Its really sad that trash FF keeps selling well when Persona has been better than FF since PS2. Persona serves much better sales and P5 is the best JRPG since P4 and before that is was P3.
That’s good. I hope it sells more and more. Imagine if the series budget got more than doubled with increased sales. It’s one of the, if not the best game around. But dang, this thing is gonna add at least another million in the West.
Well impressed with this game, can't wait to join up with the Phantom Thieves again.
Got me into the series! I owe this game so much.
I'm glad Persona has found such a large audience, it deserves it. I just personally don't care about Royal, at all. Even if the game is a significant improvement on an already awesome game, I don't want to replay a 100 hour game that I only beat 2 years ago. Patiently waiting for whatever their PS5 project ends up being, and Phatom Strikers, I'll likely check that out.
p5 success means smt fall,
looks like p6 will be released first before smt5
@wiiware While I do agree with your comment, localization still takes time.
@RinTohsaka Just wait until the localization done and then do a worldwide marketing rather than local/japan first, that's what big japanese games like ff15, monhun, and bloodborne do.
