Have you seen Death Stranding? It’s arguably the best looking game on the PlayStation 4, and it shows how far the Decima Engine has come since the release of Horizon: Zero Dawn a couple of years ago. Of course, a sequel to Aloy’s inaugural outing is almost certainly in the offing for the PlayStation 5, and you should expect it to look extraordinary based on Guerrilla Games’ past exploits.
Well, that and the fact that it’s got an entire team dedicated to working on foliage for the follow-up. A job listing for a Technical Vegetation Artist (yes, that’s a real title) explains that candidates will be responsible for “the creation of vegetation assets that are used to dress the game world”. It continues that Amsterdam studio has “four teams dedicated to creating the stunning environments of Horizon”.
Earlier this year, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 actress Janina Gavankar – who played Tatai in the original title’s Frozen Wilds expansion – claimed that we’re “going to die” when we see the sequel, while the team has recently been in Sweden shooting motion capture for the release. We expect this to play a big part in the PS5’s reveal event – with lots of hardware specific bells and whistles to boot.

Considering how DS looks? Yep.
I would to see a touch of DS traversal mechanics in Horizon 2, particularly in climbing. I'm not a fan of the way AC Odyssey allowed to climb on anything, I feel it takes away the sense of achievement of finding a route of reaching the top. So I would love it if there's more thought put behind it in the sequel.
It’s just not a good game if it doesn’t have good foliage
For those in the US wondering about the subtitle.
H:ZD not being on Polygon's Top 100 Games of the Decade list - DS is but that hardly makes up for it - is a bit of a crime, though @ShogunRok is still probably just mad about TW3 being way down at #9. The fact that Splatoon isn't on it means Polygon doesn't care about Japan, b/c those games have rocked Japan the past few years.
@get2sammyb by the way, not sure if I mentioned, but there is no : in Horizon Zero Dawn.
Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 will never exist.
I’m sure you’ll get that fixed up in no time.
@AdamNovice I'm not a fan of that AC climbing everything either, it's so unrealistic. It would fit something like the upcoming Gods&Monsters or Ni no Kuni or something.
Almost at the end of my NG+ in this outstanding game, will be going for 3rd and 4th playthroughs to unlock all face paints and focuses. Seriously I can't believe I doubted this game for so long. I didn't get the shooting robots with arrows in a medieval setting. I'm glad I gave it a chance. And the story gets underrated sometimes but it's up there with the best. I say this is the best new PS IP currently.
Time to apply and dedicate the entire next few years of my life ensuring every single dandelion in Horizon 2 is both realistic in wind swaying, and in photorealism.
One of my favorite games. The Bench scene is just gaming perfection.
If a PS5 launch title. First thing Ill be playing on it. All the robot glows with RayTracing is going to look amazing.
@TheArt Isn’t it post-apocalyptic rather than medieval? I’m pretty sure, though it’s been a few months, there’s ruins of civilisation everywhere like how the big stadium’s supposed to be in Denver.
@kyleforrester87 H:ZD
Surely by this point he's doing it just to annoy you, that's really the only explanation.
Maybe you should start writing it as Death: Stranding in protest. D:S looks better anyway. Not as cool as W_D but they dropped that after the first game.
"Janina Gavankar – who played Tatai in the original title’s Frozen Wilds expansion – claimed that we’re “going to die” when we see the sequel"
2080 release confirmed.
This is my most favorite game on the PS4. There were a lot of great ones too, but this one came out on top for me in the end. I can't wait to see what they do with the sequel.
Im more exited for guerrilla Games new multiplayer game then horizon 2 to be honest.
Also known as the Bob: Ross of video games.
@kyleforrester87 The grammar police, ever vigilant. lol
@nessisonett Yep I know. I meant I was confused at first exactly what the game wanted to be. Was it sci-fi, post-apocalyptic or medieval...till I gave up and decided to give it a try and it all made sense.
@PunkRx_Lockly *grammer, come on now.
Definitely my favourite exclusive this generation with the combat against the machines being the best I've experienced in any open world game and the story is actually very good too. I'd also say that this is still the most visually appealing game on the system for me, yes as @TheArt will quite rightly point out RDR2 is certainly graphically better and a stunning achievement in visual fidelity l, unfortunately it's HDR doesn't work properly. HZD's HDR is gorgeous and well beyond most games I've played since and having watched the DF video on Death Stranding and seem some of the effects I can only imagine what this engine can do on PS5 and who can't wait to see where that tease at the end leads us?
Stunning game and graphically the best I've seen on consoles along with RDR2. Defo my favourite PS exclusive game.
I want more realistic animal poop in my next gen games. All these games with wildlife, not once do i recall someone stepping in some animal poop. SORT IT OUT DEVS!!
@rjejr Well, the *funny thing is this site calls the complete edition "Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition"
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019/06/horizon_zero_dawn_complete_edition_nioh_and_more_join_the_playstation_hits_line-up
*not that funny
All that foilage lol
@AdamNovice the climbing in the first game is already nothing like the AC games so that's not a point to worry about.
It already needs more thinking and looking for a path than those games so I don't see why you would Think it needs DS climbing mechanics since it sorta already has those.
@rjejr Just had a look at their list. Wow, just...wow.
No Horizon Zero Dawn at all (my favourite PS4 exclusive), God of War and The Last of Us way too low, no Arkham City, no Uncharted game, Pokémon bloody Go in the top 10 as well as Fortshite.
Hell they lumped in Red Dead 1 & 2 together and had GTA Online in their instead of just GTA V.
Worst. List. Ever.
Foliage hype.
@Kidfried I see what you did there...
@jdv95 Not really, all you to climb is find gold hand holds which is fine for Uncharted but in Horizon it could be better. I think there's an opportunity to add a bit more depth to the traversal mechanics.
@Jay767 lol why ? i just hate multiplayer online against people who talking trash while playing team death match
@kyleforrester87 Horizon:Zero:Dawn:Complete:Edition
We can just call it :::: for short.
@Col_McCafferty It was certainly all over the place. No Uncharted was the first thing my son mentioned, he finally played 1-4 this year.
I'm not sure when they all released but to me Uncharted 2 is the game that started the Sony look, or whatever people are calling those 3rd person linear that look sorta open world action story driven games. Uncharted, new Tomb Raider trilogy, Spiderman, HZD, GoW. GoW came first but the original trilogy et al aren't the same as the new game.
Though I suppose it could be argued that year that had GoW3, Dantes Inferno, Castlevania, Enslaved, Bayonetta and maybe even a DmC got the ball rolling before U2, but I think they're all after U1.
The Mo Cap, and the 3d terrain capture are just next level. The draw distance and fidelity on something pushing out this much tech is amazing in Death Stranding.
@kyleforrester87 I was wondering what the two dots on your avatar are ... but now I know.
You really need to see a doctor about your colon problem. Or shall I say your colon: problem.
@carlos82 Lol. Well HZD is the usual PS Exclusive sharp graphics but RDR2 is all about beautiful shades and lighting, y'know that ambient occlusion - it's so unique. They're both gorgeous only RDR2's graphics style is rare.
Be fully starting this game once I'm do e with Spiderman, I'm breaking my SP games down as I occasionally play Dooms story between for a break. But definitely is my next game as I got the whole complete edition for £12 in the sale about 3 months ago
