Guerrilla Games, the Dutch developer that brought us Horizon: Zero Dawn and the Killzone series, is hard at work behind the scenes and has been for a number of years. One of Sony's key first-party studios, Guerrilla is presumably prepping a sequel to the aforementioned open world adventure, and so news of the company's latest trip to a Swedish motion capture facility is enough to raise an eyebrow.
Darren Randall, principal animator at Guerrilla Games, tweeted about his arrival at Goodbye Kansas Studios in Stockholm. "Hello Stockholm, we've come for your mocaps," he wrote.

Obviously our minds jump straight to the possibility that this could be a tiny glimpse into the development of Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 -- undoubtedly a PlayStation 5 title -- but it's also worth noting that Guerrilla Games supposedly has some kind of multiplayer project in the works.
Either way, we can't wait to see what it's been cooking up.

I hope they give compliments to the chef.
I can’t imagine how amazing horizon zd 2 graphics will be on playstation 5
Just wait and see HZD 2 will be a launch title for PS5. Alone side with Gran Turismo 7 and Ratchet and Clank 2.
Horizon Zero Dawn is one of my favourite games of all time. It really captivated me.
This one game alone is enough reason for me to buy a PS5.
I really, really liked this game. Totally surprised me, in that regard.
I'm guessing it won't be a launch title if they're just now doing motion capture work for the game, though.
@Bliquid i see what u did there.. zero-one, dawn-dusk
or better yet- Horizon 2 dusk..
Surprised they don’t have their own mocap studio like some of the other Sony studios.
@Ralizah Did you manage to beat it in the meantime? I recall you started a playthrough earlier this year.
@Octane Yeah. I platinumed it over the course of 50 hours or so and wrote my final impressions in the Recently Beaten thread. Still need to do the Frozen Wilds content, though.
H:ZD is a 10m+ selling game - there's not a chance it would be a launch title imo. given the likely scale and budget of a sequel, i doubt we'll see it before end of 2022 at the earliest. however, given guerrilla's strength with tech and graphical prowess, i think it's more likely a smaller project, possibly a multiplayer project (KZ2/3 had great multiplayer imo, not so much shadow fall), might be targetted as a showcase for launch. most launch titles are loss leaders anyway, so could be something with much more modest ambition than H:ZD2 but still have a bit of the wow factor.
i'm betting close to the end of 2021.
no way it will release end of 2022.
maybe mid 2022.
Love it, got the platinum and excited for the follow up! Some VR content would be brilliant also, hanging out with Aloy and seeing those machines in a virtual world would be something!
@Ralizah Frozen Wilds is fantastic, you need to bump it to the top of your pile.
Yep, Frozen Wilds is fantastic. There's nasties in it that make Thunderjaws look like kittens.
@ApostateMage I do like the Monster Hunter-ish learning curve in the main game. Thunderjaws go from terrifying giants that can kill you a mile away to nuisances you can dispatch in less than a minute, once you know how to take them down.
@MightyDemon82 In a few months. I am looking forward to it, though. At some point, I'd like to do a playthrough on the hardest difficulty as well, which I hear is... intense.
I'd love to see HZD be released in conjunction with the PS5 but more likely it will be end of 2021 at the earliest.
Which makes me sad.
Horizon: Zero Dawn?
Ohhh, Horizon Zero Dawn.
Gotcha.
@kyleforrester87 Lol, to be fair, I think I’ve seen it with the colon as often as without it, but after some research I see the PlayStation website does call it “Horizon Zero Dawn” without the colon. To think I’ve been writing it incorrectly all this time.
Just like I’ve been mispronouncing “gif” for all these years and calling the blue button the “X” button on the DualShock controller.
@Th3solution it’s like calling it Metal Gear: Solid.
Hopefully Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is called something like Horizon Zero Dawn 2: The New Day or something. So then when Push Square write it they have to say...
Horizon: Zero Dawn 2: The New Day.
It’s not Zero: Dark Thirty, it’s not Black: Hawk Down, it’s not Horizon: Zero Dawn.
(I’m very passionate about this)
@kyleforrester87 Fair enough. We all gotta have our hill to die on. 😉
In general, video game titles get carried away with the colons, to be sure — The Order: 1886, NieR: Automata, Detroit: Become Human, Beyond: Two Souls, Code: Realize ... and don’t even get me started on the inexplicable punctuation in Steins;Gate or Hyperdimension Neptuna Re;Birth 3: V Generation...
Horizon Zero Dawn 2: The New Day doesn’t sound so bad in comparison.
I always knew there was robot animal dinosaurs in Sweden.
