There’s scepticism considering EA is the publisher, but Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – which will be revealed this weekend – is a single player, story-driven experience. That means no multiplayer and especially no microtransactions. Respawn gaffer Vince Zampella confirmed the news on a Star Wars Celebration stream, but producer Blair Brown has since reiterated the information on Twitter:
We’ll get our first look at the game later today, and you can find out when to watch the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order reveal through the link. Has all this increased your anticipation for the title? Let us know in the comments section below.

EA later: As we said, NO micro transactions. But we do have this revolutionary thing called MACROtransactions 😂
never thought i would ever say it but good job EA.
hope this sells well so we can get more SP only games from them.
and ofcourse to show them that it is indeed worth investing in SP only games.
I'm so confused... Amy Hennig was working on a single player Star Wars and I thought it got scrapped in favor of a multiplayer "games as service" model. What am I missing here?
So what's the catch?
And yet Dragon Age 4 is apparently "Anthem with Dragons" now with ALL the monetisation?
... I'll wait til it's out before believing any of this tripe 😂
I find it quite to believe to be honest, but hopefully ea can finally understand that not all games need mtx and can be single player.... Hopefully they'll finally deliver that star wars game we've been waiting for!
@ztpayne7 more like MEGAtransactions
Somehow it seems Respawn can do what they want unlike other EA studios. First Apex Legends - free to play, shock launch now this. Plus it's made in Unreal not Frostbite.
Does Vince have some dirt on Andrew Wilson to keep him at bay?
@sketchturner
It's a different game.. Different studio making it.
I'd like to believe Respawn and have all my cynicism magically fade away after today......
...but EA.
@sketchturner probably the amazing success SP games have had over the recent years and the fact that the EA MP only games are starting to slow down reception wise because of quality and even fatique. (started with battlefront 2,more so with battlefield 5 and anthem)
Maybe EA has learnt that the best games of this generation are all on PlayStation and all are single player story driven games.
Let’s hope this is the Horzion Zero Dawn of Star Wars.
@Octane I suspect the catch will be a fairly robust season pass offering. I expect that like Spider-Man, chunks of what Respawn have put together has been earmarked as DLC from the get-go.
@jdv95
No, Respawn started working on this game even before EA bought them.
Edit
Just it may not have been SW at first but it's always been sp third pers
@Octane The catch is a season pass with multiple small story expansions, an obscene amount of day one cosmetic DLC, and the slow drip feed of microtransactions over the next year.
@JJ2 than i stand corrected.
even though EA would have normaly pulled the plug on that project after buying them.
cool single player games.lets go ea.ok I'm hearing you .word upson
@jdv95
Sorry I edited to add EA may have influenced into making it a SW game
@RBMango @KALofKRYPTON Well, it has to be. Colour me surprised if it's a one-time $60 purchase deal like God of War was.
@Octane well they did say that they wanted to be the best gaming company so they have to start doing the things that make a gaming company great.
guess now is their chance to prove that they have it in them.
I'd say this is a direct instruction from Disney. No way EA would make that decision without heavy outside influence.
They’ve probably made enough from me on Apex Legends to cover this 😂😂
This sounds too good to be true.
Instant preorder
@Octane I'll colour you in diamond-studded gold paint if it is! 😂
So it's getting canceled is what you're saying?
You're lying, Electronic Arts. I can almost smell those lightsaber colour skins for £6.99 a pop.
I wonder now if Apex was made to offset the lack of MTX in this...
Call me cynical if you want nut I wouldn't be surprised if EA told Respawn that they can only release a Single player story driven game if they had a 'mp' way of adding MTX - even i its a separate release.
They cancelled Amy Hennig's Star Wars project saying that Gamers didn't want Single Player Story Driven games - this a game that was further along than Respawn's. Now they are backing this...
...i will believe this when i see it on my TV- controller in hand. EA doesnt get the olive branch anymore
EA and no micro transactions ? Will believe when I see it, they will sneak something like them in
@BAMozzy Wait, did they say that was the only reason it was cancelled? I'm sure quality had something to do with it.
This is great news now I am excited for this game, as a huge star wars fan the last few years have been very disappointing games wise, hopefully this game might go towards changing that. Also ea have seen how well gow and spiderman have done and want a piece of that pie. I look forward to the reveal later.
You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.
@BAMozzy
I'm not sure it was in better shape. Visceral game seems to have been in dev hell for whatever reason. Stig Asmussen joined Respawn in the same time frame Hennig joined Visceral.
Will it come with a calendar like Anthem where you can see what date you can start playing the game depending on how much you paid for it??
@KALofKRYPTON A diamond-studded gold skin? That'll be $17.99 please.
@Octane and at least a 1 in 48 chance of getting it!
@Octane The catch is it's actually a unique spin on FIFA's 'The Journey' story mode
I'll believe it when I see it. Nothing against Respawn but there's nothing stopping EA from ruining this game before or even after release, microtransactions and lootboxes can always be patched in at any given moment, btw they said there wouldn't be microtransactions, they never said anything about lootboxes.
It’s difficult to imagine a game made by the likes of EA, Activision and Ubisoft without microtransactions and lootboxes.
But I’m excited for this game because Stig is the director and Respawn is a solid studio as well. Don’t screw this up EA!
@Sensechat haha, you’re right. I was just generalising. However, single player games have had a great showing this gen on particularly on PS4:
Horizon Zero Dawn
God of War
Spider-Man
Nier: Automata
Uncharted 4
To name a few.
Even Switch with BotW and Mario Odyssey has had some epic single player games.
Yes, I over generalised. But EA said single player games were dead. And then they are coming back to them after single player games had great success this generation.
@Octane 10 season passes only $59.99 each! LOL
Star Wars, made by Respawn. Single player only, no microtransactions... Day one purchase.

Just a little reminder of how things can change...
It's EA so....
Amazin!... Have hope in Respawn.
@Kienda Metro: Exodus was also a great single player story driven game.
I cannot bring myself to care about anything set in the new Star Wars "canon". It just constantly makes me salty and resentful about what happened to the Expanded Universe. I spent years wishing for a game of this sort, set in the post-Return of the Jedi Expanded Universe. We had some cool ones, with the Jedi Academy games but they always left me wanting more. I wanted games set during the Dark Empire with the clone of Palpatine. I wanted games set during the Thrawn trilogy, and I especially wanted games set during the New Jedi Order's Yuuzhan Vong War. I wanted more X-Wing games, a sequel to Empire at War and a NJO era Knight of the Old Republic style game. All of those things could have happened until Disney bought SW and threw it all right in the trash compactor...
There was so much amazing untapped potential in the old EU, and seeing the new canon forever makes me salty and resentful.
While I'm pleased at the basic idea of a single player SW action game, this trailer gives little to go on, as touched upon here. Plus, you know, EA...

Obviously, I'm happy about this, because it's a good thing. But it's hard to get too excited about it, and I don't really feel like showering EA with praise, because not being exploitative and ripping off your own fanbase should kinda be the default setting, surely. It's like they stole our lunch money yesterday, and now we're supposed to thank them for not stealing it today.
@ztpayne7 Macrotransactions have been around for a while, they have been hiding in the dark under the name "DLC".
And I expect the game to be £80 with about £3000 worth of DLCs (£2799.99 with the season pass).
Cautiously excited. Could be great but once bitten, twice shy.
@jdv95
You were right.
Just learned that they stopped working on this game to move on to JFallen Order when EA took over.
I thought they changed it but looks like they started from scratch again which is lame.
@JJ2 shocking but very happy that EA allowed it to remain SP only.
I thought EA said no one wanted single player games anymore. Love EA!
@jdv95
Yea, Stig team was for a sp game. Im guessing TTF was EA focus.
