This week's going to be an important one if you're a fan of Persona 5. Persona 5: The Royal, a confirmed PS4 title which was both teased and kind-of-revealed earlier this year, will supposedly be blown wide open on the 24th April, unless Atlus sees fit to troll us all once again. On the 25th April, we'll be getting information on Persona 5 S, but there's every chance that this project has nothing to do with PlayStation.
Over the course of the two dates mentioned above, Atlus will be hosting 'Persona Super Live P-Sound Street 2019' in Japan, which is basically a celebration of series. It'll feature announcements as well as live music performances, but it'll only be streamed on Japanese service Niconico. Still, we'll be sure to have all the news here on Push Square once it breaks.
And so now, we wait. What are you hoping to see from Persona 5: The Royal and Persona 5 S? Get up, get out there in the comments section below.
Update: Persona 5: The Royal has been fully revealed as an enhanced edition of Persona 5. You can read about it through here.

I just don’t know if I should go hang out with my friends at the mall or make a lock-pick before bed tonight.
Spooky! Been talking about this at length in the chat thread about the Kotaku (EDIT Kotaku UK) controversy that happened over the weekend!
... Also looking forward to finally hearing more info!
Just hoping they don't say tune in 28th of May to find out more after only learning that the thieves will get an alternate costume or Morgana will say go to bed an extra 20% 😂
The big announcement will be... pushed back for another month.
The R in Persona 5 R probably stands for Retort.
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Jeez, I just looked that up there. It’s right up there with the baitiest of clickbait. Does anything pass for journalism now?
@Kidfried Kotaku begs to differ
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy What happened? I can't find any article about persona there.
@Athrum they tried to say “wake up get up get out there” made fun of disabled people by a word whispered that they couldn’t quite make out and hadn’t gotten ahold of Nintendo or Atlus but just assumed it was the word and rolled with the article
@ztpayne7 Really? What a bunch of idiots.
I've seen that site go from a an awesome blog to a respectable news site to just trash in the span of a few years. If it wasn't for Jason and Fahey I wouldn't even go there anymore.
As @ztpayne7 says @Athrum a Kotaku UK article accused the song "Life will change" of saying retar- (you finish it off) instead of "retort it" and accused Atlus/Sega/Nintendo of being offensive to disabled people
People then called the journalist racist because of Lyn's thick Japanese accent of singing in English which she isn't fluent in
... and then when proven wrong, Kotaku failed to take down the original piece and put out a half-hearted apology on a separate page which still ended up doubling down on the original article
Then the journalist who wrote the initial piece tried to go on social media to defend herself and explain that her editor removed contextual parts of the article, and published it without her knowledge.
Her editor demanded that she stop talking publicly because it was making them look bad, in full view of everybody.
Both articles have since been removed.
All in all an absolute farce!
Thanks goes to @RogerRoger for the extra detail about the aftermath!
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Oh it was the Uk one, ok. That explains why I couldn't find it. Thank you
The only thing that matters this week
No problem @Athrum apologies for not being clearer in my original post👍
I didn't even know there was a UK branch til this morning to be honest
Exciting stuff. I plan on finally getting Persona 5 here pretty soon.
I'm interested to see how it all shakes out. P5 on Switch would be the ideal way to replay imo, but looks like Royal is going to have me chained to the TV for another 80 hours. Either way, I'm glad to have a reason to dive back in!
Ironically enough I'm on my 6th playthrough of Persona 5. I cannot wait to see what the new games bring to the table since they're tied to the main game.
@turntSNACO They may also add new features that weren't in the Playstation version. Like Amiibo support or Nintendo exclusive costumes like they did with Bayonetta, there's a thought: Having Makoto in a Bayonetta costume, Haru in a Peach/Daisy costume and Morgana in a Yoshi costume.
@Torakaka I don’t think that’s irony(?) And 6th play throughs? Do you need medical assistance?!
@kyleforrester87 Nah, the sign of a great RPG is replayability. How many time have you played the same game before you grew tired of it? Twice? Three times? Every game has some level of making you want to replay the game even though you already know the outcome but do so anyway for the enjoyment of it.
@Torakaka yeah but 6 times in 2 years? It’s not exactly a short game 😂 but fair play to you!
(I’ve probably played FF7 6 times in 20 years! To be fair I played MGS2 back to back 8 times, 3 times in one day lol)
I'm so excited for this. But at the same time I can't help but feel I'm going to be disappointed when they announce its not going to be what I hope it will be...which is a new game entirely but a spin off of the original...or even an expansion dlc.
@Torakaka Bayonetta Makoto is a good call. I'd like Ann as Peach, Haru as Daisy, Ren & Ryuji as Mario & Luigi.
But all that really matters is getting a Waluigi costume for Yusuke.
Don't mind if it's expansion DLC, will be rather miffed if I need to rebuy P5 royal version.
We should be getting these announcements at crazy early times for US time zones right? At least it’ll spice up the night shifts this week.
I’d been holding off on a second play through of P5 because I want to know if R is a remake or a whole new game, but Joker in smash restarted the hype train. It’s not like Royal will be out until the end of the year at the earliest, anyway.
@turntSNACO Actually, thinking about it now Haru would be Rosalina.
@Torakaka
I'm on round 15 of Dragon Age Origins
Another quality RPG you should look into. Also Divinity Original Sin~
You'll never see it coming!
The ONLY thing I need out of the Royale is the ability to romance Ryuji. I don't care how they choose to do it, but it needs to happen
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy For what it's worth Atlus refuses to say what the word actually is. They just say it's not the slur. That's probably why the writer doesn't want to let it go
Please I dont want a fighting game = / I would love an actual enhanced game like FES & Golden.
If P5 Royal is an expansion or added content, then I'll be eager to play it, after I've had a nice long break from Persona. I'm still playing P5, but I'm very nearly done with it now.
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy i used to read kotaku uk every day, but since Keza and Leon left its been full of this rubbish. Haven't read it regularly in months now. The other day was an article promising some revelations about ff7, but it ended up being 2 and a half thousand words essentially advertising to the authors youtube channel.
Please PERSONA 5 for SWITCH!
I am excited for both of these announcements.
Some kind of Persona 5 Switch announcement is what I would prefer. Not sure why all you folks still play games on your blue ray player.
And before you burn me alive, let me point out that I am kidding. But I do want P5 on Switch.
@kyleforrester87 8 times back to back? Was that the only game u owned at the time?
@ellsworth004 Might as well of been (other than the awesome SSX Tricky!), but no I collected all the dog tags on all difficulties (very easy, easy, normal, hard, extreme and European extreme) after doing a couple of regular play throughs. I did very easy/easy and normal in one day, it took about 2-3 hours per play through skipping cut scenes and getting all the tags each time.
European extreme was bloody hard though.
Really hope the announcement isn't for a Switch version. Unsually, I couldn't care less about things getting ported to other systems, but the Switch user base is sooooooooo over-the-top obnoxious with their port begging.
I am assuming Royal will probably be an updated P5 with extra content whilst P5 S will probably be the fighting game that will inevitably happen (Persona 5 Stadium? i don't know). Either way, I am looking forward to it, and to inevitably playing through P5 again.
@Yogsoggoth That doesn't sound bitter and spiteful. Not at all. I get that it can be monotonous to hear the same thing like a broken record, but that doesn't mean you should wish for others not to be able to enjoy something.
