An update for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is now available on PS4, bringing a couple of interesting additions to the nostalgic package.
First and foremost is a new level named Future Tense, an entirely original creation from Vicarious Visions. As for where it's located, it's been added to Crash Bandicoot Warped's hub. However, for PS4 players, this isn't the only thing to look forward to. HDR support has now been implemented, so you can see the remakes in gloriously improved colours.
The update is about 560MB, so it won't take you long to download. Will you be spinning back to the N. Sane Trilogy to take on Future Tense? Do your best Aku Aku impression in the comments below.
Update: The new level is out today, but it isn't included in this patch after all. You need to download it separately from the PlayStation Store, and it's available now.

@Neolit Wait till next generation, the prices of 4K TV's at that time will be even cheaper than now, tech should have improved a bit and you'll have a shiny new PS5 to pair up with it
I'll give it a try when I get round to playing Warped. So far I've only played the first Crash in the triology.
I hope ps4 will also get the 60 fps patch like pc.
Not that it matters a great deal but strange that the new levels aren't just patched in.
Just chucked CB2 on to see what it's like with HDR now and it certainly has a better pop to it. Not that it looked bad before!
You can also now skip the opening by pushing ng triangle, as fun as it is hearing the announcer guy say vicarious visions for the millionth time.
I have to come back to this game. I think I was close to beating Crash 2 so I need to finish that up.
@Neolit
Need to buy you TVs in March April as the new ranges come out in May for most manufactures and you get the best deals as retailers clear their stocks. In the uk anyway. Don’t upgrade without going OLED though I have a man crush on my tv it’s so good
@PSbest Same here. In in USA and I can't find it in the store yet.
EDIT: It's here in USA now.
@Neolit go 4K OLED, is so much better, even using the standard PS4 with upscaling. I've the Pro but for many months I was using 4K tv with OG PS4, awesome. As you know, you can wait two or three years because "prices will drop and tech will get better" , that's always the case with almost anything... but you play today ; )
I found the level on ps store through googling it, I didn't find it on the actual store..I did ''purchase'' it but it won't let me download it.. On the add-ons for the game it is there and says ''installed'' but when I go into the game it's not there and on the actual level in Crash 3, it says ''DLC Required'' Anyone lese have this issue?
@neolit I know, mind you I don't own an OLED TV, but two lower end LG and Hisense 4K. I think HDR works better on the Hisense (which is the one I'm keeping, selling the other), but I've seen a LG OLED at a friends house and it's on another level. I'm happy anyway with my TV , but waiting to find OLEDs at an affordable price point (I'm from Argentina so that's VERY unlikely to happen in less than 3 years). Take a look at the rtings.com page and even a cheap/mid-range 4K TV will let you in awe vs a 1080p TV.
@MattSilverado I too have a cheaper 55" 4k TV. I love it, but I've seen the OLED and they are definitely on another level.
@Chaoslink1
I had a similar situation. It said I purchased it but wouldn't let me download.
So... I put the crash bandicoot disc in and let it update. Then after it installed I started the game up again. On the main menu it should say at the bottom, future tense now available. In the warp room you should see a little platform that you can jump on to, and that will take you to the 51st level
It makes sense releasing an HDR patch at the same time with the Xbox release but why wasn’t it implemented when it first released? Also does it display at 4K on the Pro?
@NYJetsfan123
I have also done all the updates I could do for the game and while the platform that takes you to the level is there, it doesn’t allow me to play it, as it just says “DLC Required” and also on the main menu where it should say “Future Tense Play Now” It doesn’t show up...
@MaccaMUFC The game renders at 1440p and then upscales to 4K not the best use of the pro but it does the job
@SKC_Diamond The Pro is capable of displaying native 4K, so I’m surprised it doesn’t with Crash, the X does and first timers on Xbox will be playing it with HDR too, whereas most PS4 players will have already completed it without HDR. Same goes to the Spyro trilogy and War Thunder, past PS4 exclusives performing better on an Xbox, not trying to be clever just stating a fact but I’m sure PS5 will be the most powerful console even when the next gen Xbox arrives.
Great level! And the bonus section is hard as hell! Overall it seems they really learned how Crash games should be. I hope they come up with a new Crash in the future. =)
If anyone is having issues accessing the new level, here goes a step-by-step:
1. Update the game.
2. "Purchase" the DLC for free on PS Store.
3. Boot up the game, continue playing Warped and there'll be a new elevator near that screen where you activate Coco. Take it to access the level.
P.S: If the game is open when you "purchase" the DLC, you have to close it and boot it again, otherwise it won't load the DLC level.
Comes out on switch, first thing they do is update the PS4 version... fml
I have a pro, this is nothing about loyalty, but i love my Switch and would love to see continued support and all sorts of titles for it.
This kind of crappy strategic behaviour does nothing to help its chances.
Nint : “Crash B. Finally on Switch at slightly reduced fidelity but mobile”
Sony : “Aw yeah biatch?... HDR and an extra level... eat it”
Its not a big hitter, quit the bullying eh?
Does this recent update do anything about the loading times even if small?
@Alundra-1998 I've heard it does but haven't played it yet to see. One of the only complaints I've had about this game.
@NintendoFan4Lyf If it makes you feel any better, few games really implement it well, as far as I have seen. The best example is God of War, which because of the type of game, is able to use both deep colors and ultra brights, whereas games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted 4 tried to look more realistic, which is limiting.
Anyway, every day you hold off, more developers are getting better at HDR presentation and the TV's are getting cheaper too. I would hold off until Black Friday so you can save up and get a really nice TV for cheap, and not have to upgrade for a decade or so.
However if you don't want to wait, TCL 49S405 49-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2017 Model) is $300 on Amazon. Just large enough for the 4K to matter (which will make your games look sharper automatically even without a PS4 Pro), and has HDR and it's a smart TV too. Has 3 HDMI ports too so if you ever have PS4, XB1 and Switch you can have all set up That's the best cheap TV I've seen when looking for TV's for my friends. Has almost 3,000 reviews on Amazon and has 4.5 stars. It also has a headphone jack if you ever need to watch TV quietly, and a USB port for your phone, laptop, etc. and of course has 120 Hz refresh rate.
@Turismo4GT My plan exactly. I won't be needing a 4K TV until PS5, but ONLY if PS5 games are natively 4K and at least stable 30 fps, if not 60 fps.
@NintendoFan4Lyf Ohhh niccce. I went 65 inch too with Bravia 850D. Nothing special but was $1650 so couldnt really go higher.. that was just before Pro launched though so prices are down more now. I dont know much about TV's but Im loving it!
Thanks for the info, grabbed the Free level awhile ago!
Still hoping they announce a CTR remaster sometime in 2018...
