Dark Souls Remastered Asylum Demon Boss Walkthrough Guide

Bosses in Dark Souls Remastered are the cream on the challenging cake. Sure, fighting your way through a new area is no cakewalk, but it all builds towards beating the area boss.

Not only do these guys have an enormous health bar that you'll have to whittle down piece by piece, but they also deal insane damage. So much so that it's entirely possible you could get wiped out in a single hit.

They may even be surrounded by enemies from earlier in the level, or attack you as a duo. Just you wait until you face your first double boss – that will make everything you've faced up until that point easy by comparison.

In this guide, we're going to walk you through how to beat the very first boss in Dark Souls Remastered, the Asylum Demon. It's relatively easy by the rest of the game's standards, but still quite tricky for a newcomer.

How to beat the Asylum Demon in Dark Souls Remastered

The Asylum Demon moves slowly and wields a massive hammer. Each time he goes to attack, he charges it up, giving you ample time to get out of the way. Basically, what we're saying is that he's slow.

Now, you can beat the Asylum Demon in one of two different ways: the moment you see him for the first time at the very beginning of the game, or during the second encounter. Here's how to beat both of them.

Asylum Demon first encounter

The first encounter basically requires you to pick the black firebombs as a starting gift when creating your character. That means you don't get the master key though, and that totally sucks. As a reward, you do get the Demons Great Hammer though, which is one of the best weapons in the game.

To beat the Asylum Demon using this method, you need only chuck between four and five black firebombs at him to bring him down. Considering you don't have armour at this point though, you'll have to be super careful you don't get hit. Fortunately, his attacks are really slow and obvious so you shouldn't have too much trouble dodging. Read the second section for more detail.

Asylum Demon second encounter

If you choose to beat the Asylum Demon on your second encounter, you'll have a much easier time. Start off with a plunging attack by falling off the balcony right on top of him and pressing R1 on your way down. That attack alone could take off up to a third of his health.

While fighting him, a good strategy to adopt is to stay close and behind him. That way you force him to keep turning to try and attack you. Bear in mind though, that his attacks (while slow) generally sweep a wide area, so you'll have to dodge towards them to avoid getting hit at the end of your roll.

If at any point the Asylum Demon jumps into the air, put some distance between you and him as when he lands he hits a wide area with an AoE attack.

Keep hammering away at him from behind until he goes down, at which point you've beat the tutorial and can finally get started on your adventure. Good luck!
