Wow, we never thought we’d see the day. SEGA has followed up on its promise of a “huge surprise” by announcing that Shenmue I & II will be coming to the PlayStation 4 later this year. Considering we’d written off the possibility of this ever happening, that’s a pretty gigantic surprise indeed. This lifelong ‘Mue fan is still reeling from the news.

The two classic Dreamcast titles will be replicated in their entirety, depicting Ryo’s revenge mission with all of the QTE-imbued brilliance of the originals. There’ll be new resolution options, as well as a choice of classic and modern control schemes, an updated user interface, and the option to enjoy the titles with either English or Japanese dialogue.

There’s no word on a date yet beyond 2018, but this is barmy news. Truly barmy. If you’d told us five years ago that we’d be able to play a full Shenmue trilogy on the PS4, we’d have not-so subtly laughed in your face.
