Square Enix has released a new gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy XV, and the first thing that we noticed while watching is that the game currently looks rather nice. From what we gather, this is footage taken from one of the project's latest builds, so it's likely close to how the title will look when it launches near the end of November.
As for the video itself, the focus is on a newly revealed death spell, which allows you to kill off an enemy as long as you can cast it without getting hit. The visual effects are pretty interesting, too, with monsters growing thin and contorted as Noctis continues to drain their life away. It's really quite brutal, to be honest.
How do you think Final Fantasy XV looks? Are you eager to see more, or are you getting tired of catching so many trailers? Try not to resort to the death spell in the comments section below.

Looked pretty good actually. Maybe the patch was worth the delay?
Interesting way of using the game lore to explain the Death Spell, i like it.
Love how the screen turns dark whenever he uses the Death Spell.
So is this Pro, 4K, HDR, X1S? What's the point anymore in watching a video of graphical improvements if we don't know what version of the game it is?
Now there are reasons to watch, just can't focus on graphics.
Looking great! as @rjejr said though, we don't know what version this is. Really hope this is the post-optimization vanilla game.
Also: it's kinda spoilery? I didn't expect to have this kind of spell in the game from the look of things...not blaming you of course, just the game marketing choices.
Looks great cant wait for this ff xv, gravity rush 2 and the last guardian
@Feena @rjejr I would assume it's just standard current-gen footage. If it was on the Pro then I imagine Square Enix would tout that fact in the title.
Watched the vid - that is 1 seriously messed up spell. I'm used to all of my JRPG having KO and things like that, having a creature just poof is kind of off-putting for me. I'd use it on an annoying sub-boss but not sure I'd pull it out on some random creatures wondering the world.
@ShogunRok Well they did announce FFXV Pro support at TGS, so it could be.

Guess it's going to have to be up to you guys to find out what it is were looking at and tell us so I don't have to keep asking that same question every time.
@rjejr I thought you didn't have any variant of the PS4? I'm not sure what the choice is here, unless it's money, in which case why didn't you get one last week? If you're still holding out, regardless of what console this footage is from, you should be buying a Pro if money ain't a problem and a slim if it is, but if you want to get on board with Sony, it's not that difficult a proposition.
Back to FFXV, whilst I still have my pre-order, I still think this looks - and sounds - rubbish. It's almost as though QA have realised the actual gameplay is terrible, the story's weak and that, crap, we'd better pad the hell out of it asap. Here you are: a DEATH spell. Well, that's me sold for another few days. This is going to do massive damage to SE.
@Drawfull Careful on the language!
@rjejr Oh yeah, Vanille had death in 13. Level 8 or 9 Crystarium I believe. Good for the 'oises, if under-levelled. And they went 'poof' when it hit successfully. I thought that was actually a nice graphical effect, too, to be honest.
@Drawfull I'm a money first kind of guy. And I like having big boxes of Christmas presents under the tree, so this year there will be a PS4 under the tree, and knowing that, there's no rush. Some company somewhere will have one on sale for Black Friday, I'll strike then. Still undecided on Slim or Pro, will come down to the deal. That $449 FFXV Slim deal, not gonna happen. U4 for $299 maybe. Right now I'd really like a Skylanders Imaginators bundle w/ Crash. They've done Disney Infinity bundles in the past - I bought my 2nd PS3 w/ the DI 2.0 set - and I think it would be a great way to get families on board this holiday, no NX, no Wii U games and I'm nto sure what MS brings to the table for families.
But BF for Christmas, that's the plan.
@rjejr Yeah the FFXV 'deal' is suspect, to say the least. I'm more a "pay now regret later" sort, but if you've managed to avoid most of UC4 spoilers that are literally everywhere, then I'd be hanging for a BF deal on that one. Ot that and ROTTR for peanuts
Good luck!
@Drawfull Yeah, been very careful w/ U4, knock on wood. And I do think RotTR will get a PS4 Pro bundle, it seems to be the game w/ the most PS4 Pro variants - on both 1080p and 4k tvs 0 so they can sell it both to PS3 owners - that's how I view the 40 million of us who don't have a PS4 yet, not non-PS4 owners but PS3 owners - and also as an upgrade for current PS4 owners, "look 4k and HDR ooh aah" So I could get that one.
This is looking great! I can't wait for this! But honestly Square needs to stop with the trailers. Not that im not enjoying it but this the first new video I have watched since platinum demo came out. Like when they recently came out with a video about customization and other stuff, its like c'mon guys save us a bunch of surprises for when the game comes out! Its just going make the overall experience more enjoyable and memorable and less predictable. Personally I have seen enough to know I'm going to enjoy this so I'm avoiding anything and almost everything. Well try to..
Looks a little bit better than the demo we played. But it needs to entice me with a new WAY WAY better demo and show me better gameplay if it wants my money!
Final Fantasy 15 looks as the clip shows Incredible.
The time the effort that has gone into making this game the Grand Daddy of them all.....................is getting close...
And no V.R. Life in plastic, it's fantastic................. Imagination, life is your creation.
Wow! Yeah you can really notice the improvements, especially if you've been playing the demos recently. Looks great.
Final Fantasy XV: releasing in 2025.
@rjejr I've decided to wait until Black Friday 2017 to own a PS4 myself, buying a Wii U and 3DS this Black Friday comes first for me.
I'm not grabbing a PS4 until my massive PS3 backlog has been conquered, which will definitely take me a year when you add on my eventual 3DS and Wii U backlogs.
The death spell seems almost like a cheat spell. Yes it takes some time to use, but to kill a near full health enemy seems over done. Hopefully there are certain limits to it. Game looks great though.
@ToddlerNaruto "buying a Wii U and 3DS this Black Friday comes first for me."
Well I hope for your sake they announce NX before then, b/c I suspect either 3DS or Wii U backwards compatibility w/ NX - maybe both - which is why they arne't telling us what it is yet. Plus, Wii U is dead, you should be able to pick it up on clearance for $150 after the holidays, it's dead dead dead. 3DS has some life left i it yet, Pikmin and Mario sports will see to that, and Monster Hunter Stories. But again, if NX plays 3DS game carts, well just get that instead.
disclaimer - I have no knowledge of Nx, that's all just my imagination gone wild. Though Wii U for $150 on clearance after the holidays seems likely, if not before, to clear out stock to make room for $59 NES Mini in Nov. Yes, Nintnedo is crazy enough to clear out their $300 home console to make room for a $50 retro machine.
@rjejr I doubt $150 New for the Wii U, maybe $250 or $200 New this Black Friday. I refuse to buy consoles or handhelds used/refurbished,
Can the NX pay Wii and DS games too? That's another reason why I'm wanting the 3DS and Wii U.
@ToddlerNaruto "I doubt $150 New for the Wii U,"
Well that wouldn't be the sale price from Nintendo, that would be the little red clearance sticker price at Target. I think Walmart may have clearance stickers as well. Target has 2 or 3 full aisles of stuff after the holidays. Though w/ Zelda due out they may wait until after that to clearance out the Wii U.
Black Friday deal seems likely, Backwards compatibility is the big wild card though ain't it?
@rjejr You must be thinking $150 New for the 8GB Basic Wii U. I'd rather pay $200-$250 New for the 32GB Wii U Deluxe.
Backwards Compatibility for Wii and DS games is one of the major reasons why I'd pay extra to own both a Wii U and 3DS, over owning just an NX that is only backwards compatible with Wii U and 3DS games.
Anyways, we're getting off-topic. If you wish to continue this convo, please PM me on another site I'm active on.
