It always seemed certain that No Man's Sky would receive a retail release, but Sony confirmed as much this week, stating that the ambitious outing will be available on Blu-ray in Europe and North America. However, if we're going to point out bad box art – DOOM's atrocious artwork immediately springs to mind – then we should also champion the beautiful covers as well. Take a guess which category Hello Games' space sim sits in.
As we mentioned in our preview, the game's been inspired by the art on old 70s sci-fi covers, and the box does a brilliant job of capturing that look. In fact, this artwork is so tasty that we'd actually buy a full-size print of it. Remember, the game will be receiving an equally stunning special edition, which comes with a 48-page art book for you to pore over.

I have that issue with other games, not this one mind you as I'm not thinking of getting it. One solution is get it now and play later when it's patched up, if you can help it. Applicable especially when buying special/limited editions.
Gorgeous artwork. I'm not sure whether to get the limited edition or not. It looks lovely but I don't know if I can justify spending quite that much on it (£69.99 on Game's site!)
Either way, I'm getting a physical copy of No Man's Sky for sure.
I've pre-ordered the special edition, would rather they get my money than identikit shooter #238. Even if the game doesn't turn out to be amazing, at least they tried to be different.
It's quite something, that's for sure.
Fair point, credit where credit's due, some great art right there. Inspiring stuff.
@Worlock_ed Couldn't agree more. Great to see a developer try something so different, really hope it's great and succeeds.
@Quintumply SCEE and their bloody GAME exclusives!
Looks great! I need more colourful games in my PS4 library.
Best cover art of this gen on any console IMO, and some of the best cover art I have EVER seen as well. Just a great piece and would love a full size poster to frame. Already got my ps4 limited edition on preorder from game stop(I know gamestop, uhhj) and am counting down the days.
@Kidfried June, obviously!
Looks excellent! Roll on June!
Special Edition already pre-ordered this week. I've been looking forward to this game since day one. It's a long wait which hopefully means this one will be worth the $$.
@Quintumply
Don't they have some kind of discount program for you guys in EU? Here we have Gamer's Club Unlocked at Best Buy (20% off all new games + $10 in rewards per major AAA preorder, for $30 for 2-year membership) and Amazon Prime (20% off games until 2 weeks after release, $100 for 1-year membership).
I got the special edition for $63.99 which is what, like £40-45?
Just realised that this is releasing on the day of my final maths exam, which is in the morning. Smash that in the morning with the incentive that afterwards I can go straight home to play this - AMAZING.
Day one
I will just be getting the standard edition of No Man's Sky, with all the games I'm getting over the next couple of months.
Amazing artwork.
You can judge a book by its cover the reason why I am buying no mans sky and not doom
Nice, it's the art I've been rocking on my fb page ever since last e3
I normally go digital but that special edition my be hard to pass up.
Very pretty Box-art!
The Crystal reminds me of The Sims tho... haha
