Ratchet & Clank's out in three weeks or so – although you could be forgiven for forgetting. Sony's definitely guilty of spotlighting practically all of its other endeavours ahead of the PlayStation 4 exclusive platformer, but it's given the delightful double-act their due on the PlayStation Blog today with a brand new story trailer.
As you'll no doubt be aware, the game has been designed to coincide with the franchise's upcoming flick; both of which will depict the origin story of gaming's most loveable Lombax. There's a twist in the PS4 release, however, as the whole thing will be narrated by Captain Qwark – and as he's wont to do, he'll embellish certain details in his favour.
This game is looking red hot, we have to admit – and based on our brief playtests, it's brilliant fun, too. The title's due out on 12th April in North America and 22nd April in Europe, so it'll be going head-to-head with Dark Souls III – but are you planning on picking up the platformer ahead of From Software's rock hard RPG? Shoot us with the Sheepinator in the comments section below.
Baaa!

my copy is per-ordered I have nothing but love for Ratchet & Clank.
If you have a Canadian psn store account you can pick it up for about £21. I have never played any of the games before but it does look fun and the movie should be good too. I am going to pick up some of the games on the PS3 which of the series should I play?
@dryrain A Crack in Time is the best one in my opinion.
@dryrain Yeah, A Crack in Time is really good. I also loved Tools of Destruction. To be honest I don't think you can go far wrong with the PS3 Ratchets
I wasn't 'overly' impressed by the visual upgrade until I watched a 'then and now' comparison. The backdrops looked 'improved' but the character and world, I thought, hadn't been touched. I wasn't until I watched the side by side, I could see the difference. Its amazing how your mind can play tricks on you because in my memory, R&C looked as good as the PS4 version.
Its probably not a 'launch' game for me but its certainly something I will pick up.
Pre-ordered both r+c and ds3. Busy day!
@BAMozzy This new one looks amazing in my opinion. It's up there with the best looking PS4 games. It's almost hard to believe it's a game tbh - looks like CG.
@get2sammyb I agree it looks great. What I was trying to say though that in my mind, the PS3 game looked like this when I played it - I can't believe how bad the PS3 version looks now compared to this - a lot worse than I remembered it. Its just one of the ways my memory plays tricks on me and how 'great looking' games of the past looked and felt at the time.
Very much looking forward to this! First ratchet and clank for me, but now the lack of 3D Platformers got me intrigued! Looks amazing.
@BAMozzy there are so many games that my memory has done a HD remaster on. Its not until I go back and play the games I realise how they actually were.
@get2sammyb Thanks for the title and the first paragraph.
I'm picking up both games personally!
Love the souls games but I'll be getting this instead
YAY! So happy to see some spotlight on it. Let's hope it gets a steady stream of promotion then.
@dryrain Crack in Time is the best of the PS3 games I feel, but I don't think you should start with it due to it's story (If you care about story anyway). A better starting point on PS3 would be Tools of Destruction. There's also an HD collection of the first 3 PS2 games, but I keep hearing it was a poor porting job, so I would exercise caution about that one.
iNSOMNIAC GRRRRRRRRR back stabbers, but this is nice work they've done.
Awesome. From what I've seen so far it seems like Insomniac, thankfully, had its 'A' team on this one. The R&C games which followed A Crack in Time were brutal but this should be a reminder of how great the series was, especially in the PS2 era. Going Commando remains my favorite in the series but the first is one of the games, along with the original Jak & Daxter, that convinced me to get a PS2 after I was severely disappointed with Super Mario Sunshine and had to look elsewhere for my platforming needs.
Well apart from the release dates being bullfrog (Had a year delay maybe it should have a worldwide release eh Uncharted) and Sony only just remembering there are more people than dude bros in the console, I'm also worried about the price. £34.99 is very cheap.
Plenty of lower priced games have been better than the $60 releases. I just look at it as Sony admitting it's done a sh*tty job advertising the game and the fact that market has changed to the point where in a place where games like The Division and Call of Duty rule the roost, it's tough for a cutesy platformer to catch on. The $40 price may help. I've seen too much of the game and heard too much from other people to think it will be anything less than great. Aside from Uncharted, MLB The Show prior to the baseball season, and maybe Gran Turismo, Sony doesn't advertise its own games for crap, so that part doesn't surprise me.
Looks awesome definitely going to pre order this
Got it preordered & I'm really looking forward to it. This game just looks really fun.
I'm going to get through Dark Souls III and Uncharted 4 first but I will be picking this up in the near future.
Looks absolutely gorgeous, not my kinda game but I'll definitely play it at some point. I think this is gonna get quite a few tens.
I will definetely get a copy of this. It looks amazing and incredibly fun to play. Nowadays games are more about graphics than gameplay. This game seems to mix both perfectly fine.
This is one of my most wanted of 2016, can't wait!
@dryrain Crack in Time, Nexus and Tools of Destruction are all worth checking...
I'd have been getting this day one had it launched at full price so for £30 I can't complain. Can't wait, it's been a while since we've had a decent platformer too
Looks amazing, and I haven't played a platform in ages, so if the reviews are good I'll definitely get it.
Got my Qwark avatar. My hype is real.
I'm very much looking forward to playing this. There's just not enough platformers these days.
@get2sammyb Yeah the visuals are just top notch, and I really respect the price point they went after. I know my son is going to LOVE this and I will probably sneak some play time in after he goes to bed;)
@Gamer83 Yeah it is a little off they don't heavily push many of their titles. It's almost like they went the anti-nintendo route and decided on that they didn't need a mascot. I remember seeing a shat ton of Destiny commercials though, lol. You know I think it is time for Sony to bring back a mascot or create one. They seemingly have the core console audience on lock and creating a cartoony, fun style mascot could steal some of that Nintendo childish thunder. Maybe Crash or Ratchet? Hmmmm
@RoosterCogburn Just cause you change your user name doesn't mean that what I said yesterday doesn't count. Please use the edit button. And please don't over react this time.
Thanks.
I didn't experience the Ratchet & Clank games until recently via PlayStation Now. Being an old school gamer I grew up on platform games like Chucky Egg, Alex Kid, Mega Man, Sonic and last but no means least, the king of platform games, Mario.
It wasn't until I played Ratchet & Clank that I realised how much I have missed 3D platformers. It seems that games these days are catered for the more mature gamers, which is a massive shame because 3D platform games can be so much fun for all ages. Ratchet & Clank proving that with its bright colour palate, cute characters and vibrant world. Then throwing in humour for all ages, some for the younger audience, and then of course, the humour only adults will understand.
As much as I want Dark Souls 3, im afraid that is going to have to wait because I seriously cannot wait for Ratchet & Clank. Im just very surprised that Sony have done very little in regards to marketing this game as not only does it appeal to a wide audience, its also linked to the upcoming movie as well as it being a great showpiece to the power of the PS4.
Sony doesn't have a mascot that appeals to all ages like Nintendo has with Mario and Sega had with Sonic the Hedgehog. I think the Ratchet & Clank characters would be the perfect mascot in my opinion.
I also think that Sony should be ashamed of themselves for not marketing this game alot sooner, and if it fails to sell a tonne of units Sony will be partly to blame.
Also, why do we in Europe have to wait an extra 10 days for this game when usually its only 3 days after North America. Doesn't seem fair to me
@Tasuki Good to know, I'll make sure to keep your OCD busy everyday with an exorbitant amount of frivolous replies, probably of the single word variety. Message board cleaning seems to be your job around here, and I would hate to take away that important duty from you. Oh I just don't think any of us could bare it if the comments weren't neatly arranged to one person's liking. How would we ever be able to read them without your masterful arrangement of gaming site comments? Lol
@Gamer83 I have been saying the same for a while now. Microsoft are a lot better when it comes to marketing their first party games, whereas Sony only seem to push their third party deals these days. To be honest, a good amount of my friends had either forgot about this game or weren't aware of it at all.
Sony really need to start brushing up in their marketing department otherwise they might not see the sales that this game deserves. Infact, Microsoft did a much better job of marketing Insomniacs XB1 exclusive that was Sunset Overdrive.
Atleast, like you say, Sony have done a good job at pricing the new Ratchet & Clank. We can get it for the great price of £25 which is really cheap when compared to the usual game prices of £50.
I loved the PS3 R&C games so this is a must especially if it's narrated by Qwark.
Getting both at launch. So excited. Although how that bodes for the 4 University exams I have in early May is slightly worrying......
As a platformer fan I'm definitely going to be buying this, in fact it's already preordered.
@get2sammyb
after buying and playing knack i Just can't get enough of platformers. This game is in my must have list.
@RoosterCogburn isnt tatsuki the guy who helped to push Sonyinfinity of this site by harassing him for to much comments. Reminds me a lot of Seinfeld :the soupnazi
@Tatsuki This is the way to go right:P>? Edit and delete
@Sanquine Yep, and ANY comments you make that criticize his moderating style immediately get deleted. He takes this stuff WAY to seriously, as if it actually matters lol
Oops almost forgot, need to throw another message up here, got to keep him busy!
Looks like a stunning game and fun! If the graphics look that amazing wonder how close it will be to the movie? Purchase day one for me.
@Sanquine Some folks have to stroke their egos in strange ways. Not only edit and delete, but also ban an account for simply not arranging messages the way he sees fit. I am sure being a moderator on a gaming website is the absolute highlight of his life. Sad really:(
Let's see how long it takes him to ban this account. Some people just can't handle any sort of criticism, especially when that criticism is directed toward the one thing going in their life that gives them an inkling of power, lol. I'm putting the over/under at about ten minutes, he can't allow this mockery of his moderating powers hahaha.
@QuigleyKetch I'm the one that banned you. I asked you to contact me when you're ready to re-open your account. The fact that you've created a new account instead is exceedingly frustrating. Please don't make another one until you're ready to behave appropriately.
@QuigleyKetch Normally I don't discuss things of this matter in public but for you, I will make an exception. It's not about what you did it's how you over reacted. In no way did I disrespect you or even posted it in a disrespectful manner. You decided to go to far and be an a** about it. That's fine you want to be an a** feel free to do so elseware. Further discussion will be handled in the contact form.
@Sanquine My advice, don't go there honestly. No one was forced out if people want to leave that's on them. And honestly this doesn't concern you at all. Never had a problem with you man, so let's just cool it.
Cannot wait for this game love the R&C games, A Crack In Time was the best R&C game hopefully this will top it.
Graphics look very impressive. Never got into R&C before, mainly because movement and progress felt too slow for my liking, but I look forward to the review on this, could sway me to give it a go at some point.
