Many thought that Sony's sale of Daybreak Game Company – formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment, of course – was a bad move, but considering the team's only just getting round to bringing H1Z1 to consoles, we reckon that it may have been a shrewd decision. The developer's not even porting the part that people were excited for, instead opting for a competitive spin-off – with the survival version supposedly set to follow at a later date.
The abysmally named H1Z1: King of the Kill is "a fast-paced shooter that will be comprised of multiple fight-to-the-death game modes". Basically, the developer added a competitive multiplayer mode to the Early Access PC release, and realised that it was stealing players away from the survival part. So it's split the zombie title in two, with this dodgy scavenger-based third-person shooter the first portion to come to consoles.
Aside from looking like a low-rent Grand Theft Auto Online mod, we're just not sure that there's room on the PlayStation 4 for these kind of low-budget competitive shooters. We've seen it time and time again: these titles come out, fail to establish a player base, and peter out pretty promptly. Maybe this game will be the one to buck the trend, but we're obviously not holding our breath. Next!

It's crazy how many smaller games we see get released that are multiplayer only. The vast majority don't stand a chance and they're usually dead within a few months.
Stupid. Really, just stupid. I'll wait for the survival bit.
I've heard a lot of good things.. about the survival part of the game. I was quite interested for a few moments there. If they're not giving us the interesting bit then I won't go near it.
I was really excited for the release of H1Z1 on consoles I have watched so many hours on twitch. I do not mind a down grade in graphics if they create a large open world. The graphics on the PC were not great anyway.
Is king of the hill what people call Battle Royal or is that a different game mode? where you start off with 100 players and then get down to one? If it is then that is a lot of fun
Did anyone ask for this??? What were they thinking??
I'm really bummed as this is using up resources that could have been used to give PS4 owners H1Z1 proper, which is what we want. I'm also concerned that low sales of this crapfest might dissuade the devs from releasing the proper portion of the game down the line.
I bet this is launched as a free ps plus game
If it were the survival I'd play it but why would I play this when can play Star Wars, Battlefield, TLOU, and lots more shooters...
So, it's cutting away the actual good part of a zombie game for a dime-a-dozen multiplayer shooter? Ok then.
If it isn't going to work for Resident Evil, why would it work now?
So if you want to play a scavenging online multiplayer set in a post apocalyptic world then you might as well get TLOU.
H1Z1 seemed to be filled with a massive amount of trolls, at least thats what various youtube videos and local friends seemed to show me. The problem is that I don't see a way to have the survival in a multiplayer landscape without the rampant trolling flinging unwanted stuff everywhere.
Oh, what happened to the 5 dollar random crate drop that players could fight over, is it still there? (If that made no sense, you could pay 5 real life us dollars to drop a crate filled with random loot whose only guarantee was the location nearby, and all the nearby players could see it drop as well. And of course they know where you are and can simply ambush you for the loot that you just payed for)
Though, at least it isn't DayZ, I kinda lost any support I had for the game after seeing Doxy's video on it awhile back. (The people running it basically said that harassment of a, shall we say, catcalling nature was fair game, and oh yeah, shame on you Doxy for abusing a glitch to get said harassers off your back)
Which still isn't as bad as the other game, I think it was Ark (though I could be wrong on this one, sorry if I am!) that had user made and dev approved guides on how to trap players, make them your slave, and keep them from dying to escape by respawn.
Yeah, while the concepts for open world mmo type stuff tend to be fun and varied, its stuff like that that kinda ruins it. Not to mention several of these (though, again, at least Ark went Dinos over another Zombies) were made around the same time with similar concepts.
Gutted..... Just gutted!! Will wait for the survival side myself 👍🏻👌🏻
And this is what happens when you put your faith in a kickstarter program. I mean seriously, how many of these kickstarter have either fallen through all together, changed dramatically from what was advertised, or delayed and pushed back for so long that the original release dates were seemingly lies? Trash I tell you, utter trash.
If no one asked for it then why does it exist? checkmate atheists.
After hearing the news at first I was not too happy but the King of the Kill is a good feature of the game and is played by a lot of people. The game is discounted in the steam sale at the moment £11 and if you buy it before the 16th then you get both games when they split so its a good deal.
Considering that H1Z1 was supposed to be a free game there's no way in hell I'm buying this
Not intrested I want the survival bit.
Its likely this mode gets a lot of players because its something to do besides the survival.
Its a break from that gameplay.
Very different from being the ONLY gamemode…
I think its a good idea to split h1z1 into two if.. The dedicated teams put more work into both. H1z1 king of the hill was a extra for h1z1 just survive originally, then daybreak noticed that king of the hill has more daily players than just survive, which ment by dividing the two they can make each game bigger and better than thier original plans. Yes king of the hill is a shooter, but its not the same as any other fps out thier, king of the hill specialized this game to be a hardcore free for all 150 man last man standing match, its alot different to the rest and i look forward to it even though i originally brought the game for zombies
