Starting this week, you'll have the option to vote for your next PlayStation Plus freebie. The process, which will begin on 13th August and run until 24th August, will see you selecting from three forthcoming PlayStation 4 titles, and the one that earns the most votes will be added to the Instant Game Collection in September. The two losing games will still secure discounts at launch, so there's plenty to look forward to.
Never one to shy away from a cheap and cheerful feature, we figured that we'd hold our own poll here on Push Square to gauge interest in the three games up for grabs in this inaugural event. We've even taken the opportunity to outline a little more information about the trio of titles, so that you know exactly what you're voting for. Without further ado, then, here are the games – and you'll find your ballot papers below.
Armello
Board games are back in vogue right now, and that makes Armello an easy fit for the Instant Game Collection. In development at Australian outfit League of Geeks, the title promises a heady mix of tactical card play, tabletop strategy, and role-playing – all glued together by a dark fantasy theme. You'll spend your time here completing quests and facing off against other players, with your ultimate goal to become king or queen.
Grow Home
Created by Driver developer Ubisoft Reflections, Grow Home is out of the British studio's usual wheelhouse. You play as B.U.D., a 'bot with the ability to sprout plants. With a procedural animation system, this Nintendo 64-inspired platformer is all about old-fashioned exploration, as you attempt to oxygenate your homeworld and harvest seeds. With a sharp artstyle and plenty of critical acclaim already behind it, this is a safe pick.
Zombie Vikings
A four-player brawler with a killer sense of humour, Zombie Vikings is a real dark – ahem – Norse in the first ever Vote to Play contest. In development at Stick It to the Man maker Zoink Games, this title has a surprisingly strong story, but its co-op mechanics are what truly set it apart. While you'll be free to play alone, buddying up will allow you to combine corpses like the Constructicons, crushing any and all enemies that stand in your way.
Well, those are your choices, so now it's time for you to make up your mind. Which freebie will be selecting? Register your vote in the poll, and tell us what you selected and why in the comments section below.
Which PS4 freebie will you be voting for? (134 votes)
- Armello
- Grow Home
- Zombie Vikings
- None of them

Voted for Armello it seems the most fun of the three and its something we dont see often.
People that dismiss all indie games seriously need to just try them, there is some truly amazing ones. People want it to be an AAA game every month and only pay £39.99 a year you could only buy a couple of old unpopular AAA PS4 games for that sort of price. Why are people more happy with a poorly rated AAA game, than indie games that are usually rated highly? Please gamers understand a good games a good game, it's not all about budget and graphics etc.
Why is this even happening? I have no favourite, not even a slight leaning to any game. I honestly don't think many people will either. I can see Zombie Village winning simply because zombie is in the title. Crazy idea.
@GamingPenguin What if, and heres the kicker, you just dont like whats offered?
Woah! No way!
You cant not like any! You absolutely must like and try all Indy games!
My point is, i flat out do not enjoy the type of games offered.
It could have a budget of a billion quid, I still do not enjoy them.
I have seen footage of all three and they just do not interest me at all.
I have never enjoyed a game I have had no interest in initially. At all. Ever.
Grow Home is Ubisoft's most interesting game since AC IV, so it gets my vote
I already have Grow Home for PC so I'll vote for Armello.
I really like this idea and can't understand why people are moaning. As for what's on offer I quite like all three but chose grow home as I'm quite intrigued by what it is exactly.
@sham8nix The idea is sound.
Just these dont peak my interest.
Ill gladly vote for something if it does though!
@GamingPenguin They'd rather buy broken and rushed Ubisoft game after broken and rushed Ubisoft game than try something new, apparently.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya. I was talking in general not these 3 games but if your you'll see minded to try free games anyway that's up to you. I usually hate sports games but loved Rocket League for example.
Don't worry!...starting Q1 2016 sony are just gonna get in touch with each and everyone of you and ask what game you would like on ps+ and then just give it to you!..."AAA" ftw!!!
@glassmusic Or maybe the offers dont interest some people.
Why is not liking whats on offer not allowed?
Do you have to like the games because theyre free?
@GamingPenguin I tried Rocket League, didnt enjoy it at all.
I tried it solely on the fact it was something completely different.
I had no prior interest either.
Grow Home seems to sound good, so I voted on that one.
Grow home sounds the most interesting, but zombie vikings night be good too.
I literally added Grow Home to my Steam wishlist yesterday so I guess I know which one I'll be voting for =)
The zombie one, coz it's got local co-op.
@GamingPenguin yep, personally I'd have happily paid £40 for resogun alone
Not one of them look good to me... All of them just look boring. The thing with a lot of these indy games is that even when I find them fun, I never come back to playing them again.
I'd be happy with Zombie Vikings or Grow Home. I'm sure Armello is cool, but just not for me.
Some of my fave games so far on PS4 are indies, Resogun, both Trines, Pixel Junk Ultimate Shooter, and looking forward to Everyone's gone to Rapture among others. Though these 3 choices have me stumped... Grow home and Armello seem unique and different but not sure if I'll have fun with them. Zombie Vikings looks like a safe bet but is it ? Not afraid of indies but these choices aren't pulling me in .. Probably vote Groww Home or Zombie Vikings.
I think I will vote Armello...I am actually more interested in Grow Home, BUT by being more interested it also means I'm more willing to let my money go for that game! Armello seems really cool, but not as cool as Grow Home, so I rather get it for free...
Don't know if that makes sense to somebody else xD
@get2sammyb Grow Home sounds like it is fun in the same way games like Entwined or Flower are, but Armello sounds like a sweet strategy game. My vote is for Armello, but I will gladly take Grow Home if it comes to it. We still get a second PS4 game next month as well, right? (This isn't counting cross-play titles).
Hopefully Everybody's Gone to Rapture pops up on the free list in the next few months...
Grow Home for sure, since Child of Light and Valiant Hearts I'm waiting for a new "indie" of Ubisoft.
To be honest none of them appeal to me.
Whilst Indies in general do not appeal anyway and I certainly would never buy one EVER! I can see people still complaining by given the option to vote. As much as 65-66%% (34% being the minimum required to win if the other 2 each get 33%) of those that actually vote could be disappointed as their 'choice' didn't win as well as those that were 'disappointed' with the options.
I use the term 'disappointed' but its relative to the situation although many may not be that disappointed to be receiving free games every month.
Personally I don't care which one wins as I doubt I will clog up my HDD with it anyway. I suppose that over a year, I will get my moneys worth so although I may be 'disappointed' with the options here, I certainly am not disappointed to the degree I feel I won't get 'value' from my PS+ subscription and therefore cancel it.
None, they'll all bore me. Not saying they're crap but they're not my cup of tea. I'd be happy to be wrong and enjoy whatever turns up.
Grow Home for me, and I am almost certain it will win. It is getting the most coverage on the gaming sites and appeals to a wider audience. Would have actually liked to seen grow home and automatic free game with another mixed in with armello and zomvikes. Either way I'll be happy with whatever wins, bc, free.
I will probably vote for Armello but none of them have me all that excited.
I'm just also glad whatever wins none of us will have owned it on the PS4.
I hate it when you already own PS+ games.
Getting new games is the way to make more people happy.
I don't really like what's on offer but nevermind i'll vote grow home I don't like the look of the zombie one and I cant imagine i'll like a board game game but you never know, I expected 3 indie's I don't really know why some people are suprised or disappointed. I'm kinda looking more forward to next month now anyway it's a good idea.
Is Armello even finished yet? It has no reviews at all on Metacritic. Nor does Zombie Vikings. Grow Home has 75% and is described even in positive reviews as being very short. Oh well.
Armello sounds far more interesting to me than the other two.
@ryanorly I'm with you, definitely voting for zombie vikings it reminds me of Golden Axe on the megadrive and i can't remember the last decent side scrolling beat em up I played but my guess is Grow Home will win. I'll give whichever one wins a try and probably buy the Zombie game if it doesn't win.
I think Sony is right to largely ignore so called AAA games for ps plus, I've had more fun with Rocket League than most other games this year and whilst I never could get into Steamworld Dig and others like it on the PS4 now that I have a Vita I can't get enough of them on that (perhaps it's a more natural fit)
@Cron_13 Yeah me too, brought the season pass but the games worth a lot more than I paid for that.
All three just look and sound naff so none of them is my vote.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya said it before and I'll say it again, the people complaining about the complainers is just ludicrous. Before anyone has said 'eurgh, indies' (which no-one has at all) we have people complaining about them saying it. As you said, you're allowed to not like a game. It's like saying you enjoy music and then someone branding you a liar if you don't like the exact same songs and bands they do.
Voting for Grow Home probably but Armello looks interesting too. Zombie Vikings looks OK but not the kind of game I feel like playing at the moment, personally.
As others have said though, not sure why we're getting this 'vote to play' feature when all it means is that some people will end up disappointed! We'll see though, maybe it'll work out well!
I voted Armello...looks unique and different to me.
I'm going to watch trailers for all 3 but as addicted to Yugioh as I am right now Armello is in the lead based on discriptions.
Zombie Vikings seems like something I might actually play for an hour or so with a couple friends.
I like the look of Grow Home personally but I'd be more interested to hear some suggestions on what the unhappy folks would like .
After watching a video of all three titles, I choose Grow Home.
Grow home looks the most interesting.. Voting for grow home.
I have a feeling Grow home will win going away. Will he interesting to see if in future months there will always be a clear cut favorite or if there will be some tight voting right to the finish. Btw, zombivikes looks pretty neat as well.
Finally watched trailers and game play for all and went with Armello but Zombie Vikings was a close second. Grow Home did nothing for me.
Looking at Steam
Grow Home $7.99 USD
Armello (was early access but will be) $19.99 USD
Zombie Viking $?.?? USD
I can't find Zombie for Steam is it going to start out as a PS4 Only Game, Stick It To The Man isn't.
Funny how a cheaper game is winning votes.
I think I will vote for Armello and pay for Grow Home.
Let Playstation pay for the more expensive game I am curious about & I will pay for the cheaper game.
My PS+ sub ran out a couple months ago, but I have grow home on steam and it's pretty decent.
Zombie vikings looks the most fun for me and my game habits.
@themcnoisy because people like to have choice and input. It's amazing that there will still be people who find reason to complain; probably the same that would complain that they didn't want the games that were chosen for them if there was no vote.
@MikLSP why am I complaining whatever game it is I will play. I'm saying why is this even happening? Do you have a favorite?
You will notice in the comments I've usually got a differing point of view - or throw something into the discussion that might not be in the article. If the 3 games were killzone, knack and Lego marvel we would all have an opinion. The 3 games above Ive only read snippets of info how can I make a vote from that?
I think I will vote for Armello, although it seems likely Grow Home will win. Which is fine, it looks quite interesting. Zombie Vikings looks OK as well but doesn't real stand out at all. Nice to see it has 4 player co-op though.
Zombie vikings for me. I really enjoy "Stick it to the man" , in zoink I trust.
