For the first time ever, FIFA will feature women's teams, with FIFA 16 boasting twelve playable international squads. To celebrate this, EA Sports has revealed that Women's World Cup winner Alex Morgan will be joining Lionel Messi on the cover of the upcoming soccer sim in the US.
Morgan helped guide the USA to victory in this year's tournament, and she's generally seen as one of the nation's biggest footballing stars. What's more, she actually helped with the development of the release, as she was used for motion capture purposes.
It's perhaps a promising sign of progress for women's football, and with the publisher putting an emphasis on the inclusion of women's teams in this year's title, it's great to see EA Sports pushing this fact to the front of the box.

A reasonably bold move from EA - nice to see!
It's good of them to do this, but no one will notice it because FIFA and soccer games are not popular at all in the states
This is awesome!!
You know what's sad? This is the best thing EA has done with any of its sports games in years.
Is it me or is the photoshop job on her really awful?
Admittedly, I kinda like her, so I'm not complaining.
However I'm tired of seeing Messi on the cover. I get that he's the biggest soccer star right now but it wouldn't kill to have some different guys, you know?
@DerMeister It's because they've got a deal with him. Not sure how long it lasts for, but seeing as, like you say, he's the biggest player in the world right now, I can't see the contact ending any time soon.
On the actual article itself: it probably shouldn't be a big deal, so I don't want to make a big song or dance about it, but I do think it's pretty cool. Good one, EA.
@get2sammyb Ah, that explains it. I'll learn to deal then, as he isn't the sole cover star this go around.
I remember when Allen Iverson was NBA 2K only cover star for 5 years, even with other good players like Kobe Bryant and Shaq, so I couldn't help but be slightly irritated. Makes others think he's the only star in the sport.
@DominicanGlory both of them look like they've been decapitated and glued back.
Personally I don't care what EA stick on the cover. I'm completely for equality, it's something I strongly believe in, equality enforced with common sense. This is why I believe all sport that is segregated by sex should either stay separate or they should compete together. The men's game should not be guilt tripped into subsidising the women's game. Throwing money at it could be seen to demean their achievement in raising support for women's football. If people want to watch and support women's football they will do so. I'd hope to see one day women playing regularly along side men at the highest level, its about skill and imagination, not giant thighs and huge strides.
@DominicanGlory I was thinking the same thing. What's with her neck? Hopefully that's not the final artwork.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi
I have a hard time seeing it happen. Just like I can't see it in the basketball or ice hockey either. All these sports are physical sports, and the first time a man crashes into a woman, even if totally on accident, if she gets hurt, he's completely screwed. There will be endless b*tching and then the inevitable rule changes that ruin the game.
Seeing as it's a team game, not sure why they focus on one or two individuals. As these are released on a yearly basis, why not feature the FIFPro World XI. Or a selection of the FIFA officials who've been found corrupt that year?
I hate soccer..... Rugby is a mans sport to bad the game svcks.
@NAZA-187 Take ballet classes and they'll teach you a thing or two about being a man.
@Riririn whahahahahaha
