The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's text is so tiny that you may need to push your nose right up against your television screen in order to read it. Look, this scribe may need to wear glasses while operating the computer, but that's more of an eyestrain thing β the reality is that this game's font is abnormally small, and we're not the only ones to notice it.
Fortunately, the friendly folks over at CD Projekt Red are already looking into the issue, with community manager Marcin Momot noting that the team "hopes to find a solution soon". It's also busy beavering away on a fix for the PlayStation 4 version's fluctuating framerate, which isn't a game breaker by any stretch, but does need smoothening out.
Whether either of these issues will be addressed in the game's next patch remains to be seen, but the developer added that it "won't be long until it's out". Given the scale of the open world game, we reckon that the launch has gone pretty smoothly thus far. Still, this is a team that puts thank you notes in its games β we're sure that it won't rest until all of the issues have been addressed.

Great news especially on the font size
I've only played for a hour so far so can't really comment. I will say that they have made a visually beautiful and game also have given me a cool memory what with all the free gifts they put in the case.
Brilliant game so far. Beautiful to look at and good gameplay. CD project red are good for correcting issues so im sure the text size thing will be sorted quickly now they are aware of it. At the moment I have to move closer to the telly to read some of it.
Was looking through the hud settings and You can change the font size there, not had any issues with the frame rate yet been playing for a couple of hours.
I play on a 55" TV and sit 8' or so away and as such don't have an issue with Font Size personally but will say it is 'small' so can see why others can struggle.
As for frame rate, I can't comment on the PS4 version as I have the XB1 version (which also has fluctuating frame rates) but as with ALL games regardless of platform - I MUCH prefer to have consistent and fixed Frame rates - 30fps at the minimum - even if that means dropping the resolution. I know the XB1 has Dynamic Resolution and according to Gamespot generally runs at above 30fps - reaching 40+fps. but because it fluctuates it makes the performance seem worse than a locked 30fps would. I don't know if the PS4 version is also generally fluctuating between 30 and 40 or dropping below this. However if I had or do buy the PS4 version I would prefer a locked FPS - even if that means dropping the resolution down to 900p (upscaled) or maybe like the XB1 having Dynamic Resolution. No doubt the extra GPU power may help the PS4 maintain a 1080p in more situations - either way the frame rate should be LOCKED as a priority over resolution. I would prefer to see patches that either improve resolution if under 1080p as long as frame rate stays locked at 30fps or improve the frame rate to a higher locked number (no fluctuation) if the game is already at 1080p native.
Looking forward to playing the 4k remaster on PS5 when the game is finally finished.
Im not joking, I havent started Skyrim yet, just started Mass Effect 1, finishing up Xenoblade Chronucles now.
I've played for a few hours so far without any real frame rate issues, yeah a few minor drops here and there but nothing like I was expecting considering all the press. The game looks fantastic and runs well and most importantly is the most I have enjoyed a game for quite a few years
@carlos82 I have played for a lot of hours considering the game is now only 3 days old - I beat the Griffin on day 1 and yesterday reached the point with the 'mute' as shown at E3 last year. (no spoilers - as these 2 things have already been shown before the game launched). Like I said, I have been playing on XB1 and can't comment on PS4's performance but as both have 'frame rate issues' I can say that in my experience with this game so far, those frame rate issues are not that frequent and for me have been noticeable but not affected the game play or combat. I would still prefer a locked frame rate though. For me it happens most often when entering into a conversation and the view changes (like speaking to merchants/blacksmiths etc) but settles down quickly - probably as it has to load up the animation, speech and dialogue options. It has happened on a few of the cut-scenes too - again probably because it has to load these in. It doesn't appear to fluctuate that much (if at all) in combat or free roaming.
This game certainly isn't perfect in its performance and the occasional bugs/glitches but considering the size and scope of it and what CD Projekt Red have achieved its incredible. Its far closer to perfect (in terms of performance and bug/glitch free) than many many other RPG's that are smaller and with less going on too - look at Skyrim!
According to Digital Foundry: the PS4 version does appear to run with a capped 30fps, giving a more consistent update than its Xbox One counterpart.
But patch 1.01 has a downside, again according to Digital Foundry: But the downsides pack a punch too. It's apparent after switching between the game's default and patched states that these improvements come at a cost. Chief among these is the aggressive stuttering during pre-rendered cut-scenes.
I'm picking my copy up in the morning but I don't think it'll be that bad at all, cannot wait.
I'm on the ps4 and haven't seen any problems yet. Love this game, it's one of those games where you wish the clock stopped wile playing.
Some of the cut scenes have been patchy with the framerate but I never really noticed it much while exploring the world.
The framerate has been fine for me but I'm all for bigger text. I'm so freaking hooked on this game.
@BAMozzy the ps4 is locked to 30fps though obviously does drop but for the most part is very smooth, also I haven't noticed any lag in the cut scenes. I would imagine xb1 will get a 30fps lock patched in as you'd get a better overall experience but as you said compared to the buggy mess that was skyrim especially on ps3 this runs like a dream, I just wish the Mrs would go out a bit more so I could play it π
Good because boy does the game need tuning up.
The distance between enemies feels really odd at times especially if you or the enemy are on an incline. Geralt does a flashy pirouette with all of his sword attacks for some annoying reason.
Was fighting some guy from the wild hunt with a sorceress as my companion and she literally just spammed him into a corner where I couldnt hit him with anything but a crossbow. He could hit me if I got close but I couldnt touch him.
@carlos82 I read that the patch has had some negatives on both console versions - one of which is that frame rate drop in cut scenes, dialogue etc on XB1 - probably like I said due to loading them whilst playing and I believe they are 1080p on XB1 too due to the Dynamic Upscaling so you have all these things trying to happen simultaneously. A locked frame rate of 30fps is always going to be better and smoother than something that fluctuates even if it doesn't drop below 30.
Based on the size of this game, I think you will have to send her on holiday for a fortnight to get anywhere in it...
@BAMozzy oh if only that was an option π
@carlos82 LMAO
The font hasn't been too bad, but I have been playing up close to my old 40" Samsung in the man cave. That's cool that they are responding to feedback, I already love the wild hunt, but if they keep improving it all the better!
@GraveLordXD think it was for just hud writing, That's the only thing I could tell anyway, also know what you mean can barely see what I'm picking half the time!
I haven't had any issues with the frame rate but the font IS really small. It's pretty much unplayable text wise for my wife, so I hope they fix it soon.
