Guns up

Helldivers has been in the works for what feels like an eternity, but the co-operative shooter has maintained its hype in that time. There was an outpouring of enthusiasm when Magicka developer Arrowhead Game Studios announced that it would deploy from 3rd March earlier this week, then – but you may not even have to pay to play the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Vita release.

Many clocked the fact that the game is due out at the very start of the month, when Sony is due to refresh the Instant Game Collection software selection. Most interestingly, the studio failed to include a price as part of its launch date unveiling, suggesting that it may yet be free. And responding to that idea on Reddit, a studio representative said: "Well, we didn't want to ruin the surprise and announce everything at once – you need something else to look forward to."

The same spokesperson later clarified that they were "making a joke about the [game's] price, and not anything related to the PlayStation Plus lineup". Now, it's possible that the original comments may have been misconstrued – but this seems like a serious case of 'cat out of the bag' to us. We'll find out for sure over the next ten days or so, when the full lineup is likely to be unveiled.
