We're not quite sure what's happening with Deep Down. The PlayStation 4 exclusive was originally announced a couple of years back, but we've heard very little since, despite publisher Capcom releasing several gameplay clips.
Earlier in the month, the Japanese company confirmed that it's still in the works, but also stated that the recently revealed Dragon's Dogma Online will be Capcom's first and only priority for now. Fortunately, in an interview with 4Gamer.net, which has been kindly translated by Siliconera, bigwig Yoshinori Ono says that "Deep Down will take just a little longer".
"It also looks like some people are starting to ask 'did the development come to a halt?' but it's nothing like that," he continued, reaffirming that the title's still being worked on. However, Ono then goes on to state that "we're thinking about showing something that looks completely different from what previously shown."
"The ideas we have for the game is much larger now compared to when we first announced it," he adds, before admitting that "the ideas we had before might not have been good enough." It's starting to sounds like the role-playing game wasn't quite up to scratch, and its development was pegged back, but still, it's natural to be curious as to how Deep Down will eventually turn out, especially given these particular comments.

At this point i wonder if this game will ever come out :/
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi It was, yes.
The first video I saw of this was a guy holding a torch cowering from a little dragon and it looked the dogs nuts. From there the information became more confusing and the story was something to do with a time machine and I really couldn't see why. @ShogunRok do you think they have incorporated some of the ideas and technology into Dragons Dogma from deep Down and moved the team over to that game instead?
I remember the first time we saw a trailer for this game. It looked like the game is been waiting for my entire life. Like a 70's/early 80's dark fantasy cartoon come to life.
Then they announced it was free to play, and now I don't believe in nothin' anymore. I'm going to law school!
@themcnoisy It's hard to say. On the one hand, we know Capcom's online studios are working on multiple games, but on the other, it keeps saying that Dragon's Dogma Online is its only priority right now.
It could be that Dragon's Dogma Online is being used to test the waters. After all, it looks very similar to the original Dragon's Dogma, and seems to use a lot of the same assets, so it may have been relatively cheap to produce. If it's received well, Capcom might shed more light on its other projects, including Deep Down.
Personally, I think some tech and ideas will have been transferred between the games, yeah. Judging from Ono's comments, though, Deep Down may end up going through multiple changes before its finalised. Again, I reckon Dragon's Dogma Online is going to be the test to see how consumers react, and Capcom will take it from there.
So, I'm gonna guess that the game is going to go from action-y to more tactical/strategic.. Or they're just wording things weird and it's still going to be action-y.. I'm hoping for perma-death.
@B3ND3R Perma-death in a free-to-play game? You'll doom us all!
@ShogunRok More than likely.. But an SAO-styled action rpg with permadeath would be my Nirvana.. At least til Dragon's Dogma online.
