Contrary to popular, and largely logical, opinion, chaotic co-op shooter Helldivers won't actually be one of your free PlayStation Plus games next month.
The downloadable title is slated for release on the 3rd and 4th of March in North America and Europe respectively, which understandably led to many believing that it would be available via Sony's premium service. However, developer Arrowhead has shot the suggestion down during its recent Reddit question and answer session.
"I know that there was a lot of hype for us being the Playstation Plus title for March, but unfortunately that is not the case," the studio stated. Consequently, it's been revealed that the title will be priced at $19.99, although it does fully support cross-buy.

Wouldn't play it as a free title, not interested in buying it.
Im happy to pay for a quality fun game, so far it looks to be right up my alley and owning it for 3 systems for one price, awesome. Can't wait for this one!
I feel for them a little bit because the expectation has been set that this was going to be free — even though it was never announced — and now they've come back with a steep price point.
I'm sure the game will be good, but I'm not sure I'm interested in it enough to pay $19.99.
I think this is one of those games, if you have general interest in it, that will keep you occupied and entertained longer than most 60 € titles, no one seems to want to spend money anymore on anything. I like to draw my "cinema comparison" here. For that price I can barely go and see two 90 minute movies in the cinema and I am sure for that price I'll be entertained longer than 3 hours!
@get2sammyb
Same here... $20 is just too much. I feel for these guys cause this game is doa, and it's not even their own fault...although they could've found a better day to launch in the first place.
This has nothing to do with the developers Arrowhead for people taking rumours as fact, I also don't see a problem with there release date. People have to understand not every indie game is going to be a Playstation Plus title, i'll be picking Helldivers up, now I'm waiting for alienation.
Oh well. We were never promised it.
@Scollurio I hear you, recently there was a Humble Bundle sale of Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider & Hitman Absolution for less then $10 and people still complained that "it didn't have enough value". We as consumers of course have the right to decide what we think represents value but so do the publishers and developers.
I doubt this will sell well at that price now. :/
Last minute swerve! The drama!
I'd probably pick it up in a sale, but I'm not really bothered about it. High hopes for this month's plus now!
Disappointment awaits.. Not that I was gonna buy Helldiver's and as somebody else brilliantly said its more about the interest factor..it just isint there.. So a psn release would be a good look..promotional wise...but 19.99 isn't too bad a price point..stop being cheap people...moving foward though..has anybody received a beta code for planet side 2 ??
@get2sammyb That's actually a fair point Sammy, I'm sure I'd play the hell out of this one if it was on the IGC, but now I'm not so sure. And to be honest, it'd not be the first time I'd invest on a IGC game unexpectedly after I had a go at it, got the Outlast DLC as soon as it was out, would never have thought of spending any money on it if I didn't get to try it out for free.
Wasn't even convinced enough to download it for free so definitely NOT interested if I have to part cash for it
Would have been beneficial to them to stop the hype as soon as the rumours started (or simply announce the price when they announced the release date). I do feel bad as this will definitely damage sales now. At the same time, I was never really interested to begin with, so I'll be keeping my money!
Not disappointed that it's not on ps+ as it's something I always planned on buying...hardcore top down co-op shooter!.. From what Devs said they envisioned a small game but grew so in love with what they had they decided to expand it..i guess that's why it's so late( makes it seem like the delay has been put to good use).. And if that's the case and it is a bigger game then £14.99(i guess) isn't bad at all and it's for 3systems and I can share it to my kids ps4..Last time me and my son went to a film(lego movie 3d)it cost about £25
@get2sammyb maybe $10/15 would be good, knowing Sony though we'll get it in the UK for £15+
@banacheck Well, we've been trained. If an indie is launching on the day we get our free Plus games, quite often it's one of the Plus titles. At this point they should start advertising plus as "that service that gives you endless waves of indies".
@get2sammyb I think the $20 price point is going to harm them, unless they at least have a 25% off for Plus the first week. There isn't a shortage of indies on the PS4, and $14.99 seems to be the sweet spot. They really should have been more competitive.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Straight up £19.99 easy.
Oh well, if it's good I will buy it.. It is discounted with PS+ anyways.
Shame. I'm not gonna get it. I have a big enough of a backlog as it is. Plus it might come to Plus later. Unless a title looks like must own and is download only, I have no reason to buy it with all Plus has given me.
