PlayStation 4 Price Cut

While many have been eager to suggest that Sony won’t compete with the Xbox One’s temporary price drop in the United States, we noted in a recent feature that it’s been frequently adjusting the cost of the PlayStation 4 in the UK to keep its nose in front. Indeed, while the system hasn’t ever received any official pricing adjustments, the platform holder has been matching Microsoft’s cuts at every corner – and it’s actually decided to temporarily reduce the system prior to the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Advertised as a Hallowe’en special, dozens of high-profile retailers have cut the price of the standard 500GB Jet Black model to £329.99 this weekend, which is £20 cheaper than its RRP of £349.99. Of course, this being the UK, that means that stores have already started pushing the price lower, with Amazon undercutting everyone at £319.99. There are still cheaper options available if you shop around – a bundle including FIFA 15 and Minecraft is also up for grabs for £349.99 – but this is perhaps proof that Sony is willing to slug it out over price.

There’s still no word on whether the Japanese giant will respond to the Xbox One’s holiday promotion in the United States, but with 13.5 million shipped units already in the bag, one can’t help but feel that the firm could have this generation wrapped up if it went toe-to-toe with its Redmond-based competitor this Christmas. It's going to be an interesting couple of months.
