Are you a fan of punishingly difficult shoot-'em-ups, but find Resogun much too easy? Well, never fear, as Hiroshi Iuchi – the talented gentleman behind Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, and Gradius V – is making a brand new game for the PlayStation 4 named Ubusana. The luminary revealed in a recent blog post that he'll be developing the title in conjunction with famed porting house M2.
Judging by the name, and the director's pedigree, we suspect that this will be another absurdly difficult bullet hell shooter. But if we're totally honest, a small part of us hopes that the auteur will have a massive change of heart, and decide to make a dating-sim in which you must dodge a ceaseless barrage of enemy bullets in order to win over your beloved. Okay, er, so maybe that isn't such a good idea.
In any case, we're quite excited to see Sony's super machine receiving some more shooter goodness. Do you like the sound of Ubusana? Will you be watching this one with bated breath? Let us know in the comments section below.

Funny story, back on PSOne era a friend of mine got and all Japanese version of Ikaruga, it took us a long while to figure out how the changing color mechanic worked, we were trying to simply avoid all bullets and could never get pass the second stage... we thought it was the hardest game ever
Yeah, I will have to buy this. Just as long as it's not like astroid (I hated that game, I just didn't like how it controlled) So hopefully this is a side scrolling shooter like Gradius, that would be awesome.
Mm mm mm. ... shmups. ....
This announcement makes me a very happy man. For all the retro games we get, there have been precious few good shmups apart from r type dimensions and resogun lately.
Sounds like it could be interesting, but I for one am also sick to hell of bullet hell shooters and miss those that rely on classic shooter methods of challenge that don't include having 100+ bullets on screen at one time.
Oh yes! Awesome news indeed while I eagerly await astebreed on ps4. Though I do hope its a more traditional interpretation of a shmup ( like ikaruga/radiant) rather than kokuga which was still enjoyable mind but I prefer the old cave/treasure style
@DualWielding
I had the same problem with Ikaruga when I got it for the Gamecube. My brain has been trained to dodge any & all bullets, no matter the color. Hence why I hated playing Ikaruga. My fault, no the game's, but that game still stresses out.
Oooo!
I love Ikaruga! Still own it on GameCube to this day!
Treasure develops some great shmups. Best I ever played was Sin & Punishment 2 on the original Wii, developed by treasure.
I'm all in on this one guys...
Cool news.
I remember pulling my teeth out trying to beat Ikaruga on the GC. Awesome shooter, so no doubt the latest will be good also (and hard as nails!)
I knew Sammy didn't write the article once I read the tag line.
Awesome news.
I didn't think they made these anymore! I just hope it getss a worldwide release, as opposed to being exclusive to Japan (Who always get nice things.) exclusive.
Speaking of Gradius though, I'd love if Konami broke the almost 10 year curse and released a 6th installment on the PS4. Don't pull an Irem, guys, Pachinko machines aren't Shmups!
