Project Morpheus, Sony's impressive new VR headset, is growing more and more real with every passing day. And with E3 looming large on the horizon, the Japanese giant recently decided to show off the new peripheral on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Oh, and if you don't care about fancy and expensive cameras, just go ahead and skip to the 1:48 mark.
In the clip, both Fallon and popular actor Channing Tatum don the dapper device, and are promptly plunged deep into a fantasy world. The excitable host then proceeds to repeatedly slap a nearby enemy in the face. It's truly a sight to behold, and an example of the sorts of innovative gameplay Sony's newest project will be capable of creating. We're kidding, of course, but the video does do a good job of demonstrating the nifty tech.
Obviously, the point of this demo is to give the audience an idea of what virtual reality is all about, not to impress it with mind blowing software. Indeed, there's nothing particularly new or interesting about the fantasy title that the two intrepid test subjects are playing. However, the concept of multiple people using separate headsets at the same time is definitely intriguing, and has the potential to offer some truly unique experiences.
What are your hopes for Project Morpheus at E3? Do you like the idea of couch co-op being combined with virtual reality? Tighten your head strap in the comments section below.

Jimmy's reactions are priceless^-^
I think the problem with this kind of technology is highlighted in this video. If I didn't know what Project Morpheus was, I don't think this would impress me at all. It's something that you have to try, I think.
The biggest problem with this thing, for me at least, is that I HATE first-person games, and that seems to be all it is good for.
Hilarious
Still ain't sold on this whole VR thing.
Next year it's gonna be vr pokemon and vr Zelda lol
@eaglebob345 I agree I dont like FP games because I dont think they make sense in a realistic point of view, but this VR would give these games a lot more realism and more intuitive gameplay imo
I think it's great. A lot of people use video games to escape from the world around them and this would just help add to the immersion a lot of people search for. Of course there is a line you don't want to cross where you don't have an actual life.
Since my initial enthusiasm when Morpheus was first announced I'm actually starting to find the concept of Augmented Reality more practical as opposed to the Virtual Reality on show here. A simple blunder like dropping one of those Moves would trigger an awkward fumbling around for the controller experience. I'm sure that Sony will eventually iron out the issues but I'm a tad sceptical that this technology is anywhere near ready for prime time.
@get2sammyb
I think the problem is they showed it on Fallon's show. I appreciate he does video gaming stuff but new tech and games are never given a proper demo due to the nature of his show.
Anyway, I think the idea is cool, not really something I think I'd buy for myself but I can see its potential and why others would love it and I'll certainly give it a try if stores get demo stations.
@Shaolin Maybe Sony will eventually do a power glove-esque add on? or simply put wrist straps
@Gamer83 I think the demo is more proper than many, because it's just a guy doing as he likes in a video game. It's not E3 in perfect settings and it's not a Sony representative carefully dancing around bugs, glitches, and problems. Like many of us, he just lets himself have at it.
@Cloud7794 Yes power-gloves could definitely be better for games where you have empty hands in-game. I own a couple of Moves and they already do have wrist straps of the lanyard type. The problem with that is even though you're not patting round on the floor you still have a long stick of a controller dangling from your wrist which isn't easy to get back into the right position in your hand even when you're playing conventional Move games on a TV. I'm sure Sony will make enough progress on all the major problems with VR so that even if it's not perfect it'll still be a novel and engaging experience. Right now though, in the short-to-medium term, I'm finding the concept of Augmented Reality more practical because it doesn't cut you off from your surroundings. I know it's not as immersive as Virtual Reality but I can't say that I find the level of immersion lacking when playing on a TV.
I'm sure that by the time the PS5, PS6 or even PS7 come along that I'll be very excited to try it out and that there will be lots of excellent content available. I only hope that Sony can be a little bit more careful with how it presents Morpheus between now and then because the video above makes it look like goofy tech (which it probably isn't).
Please, gods of the videogames, don't let them fill the E3 conference with project Morpheus things xD
As much as I do not believe that this tech is ready and will not really do anything, I still may have to buy it if the price isn't ridiculous. Yes, I know what that says about me.
In any case, videos like this are great advertisements for the PS4.
