Syphon Filter

Uncharted: Golden Abyss developer Sony Bend is working on a PlayStation 4 title, and a job listing uncovered by the ever observant DualShockers.com may have shed a little light on what we can expect. During the platform holder’s next-gen launch event late last year, Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida admitted that the unannounced game will make you panic – and that prompted speculation that it may be plotting a new entry in its stealth series Syphon Filter.

Incredibly, as already alluded, an employment advertisement may actually support that thought, as the studio is searching for a Senior Artificial Intelligence Programmer to join its ranks. That may sound straightforward on the surface, but the company is looking for someone capable of constructing complex human behaviours – the kind of routines that are essential to an espionage escapade. Responsibilities will include the development of “state-of-the-art AI systems and behaviours, including path-finding, behaviour execution, and autonomous decision making”.

The job posting also cites next-gen experience as a bonus, which perhaps reinforces speculation that it’s making a return to Gabe Logan’s shadowy undercover universe. Rumours regarding a new entry in the Syphon Filter franchise have been rife for years, though fellow first-party outfit London Studio was connected to the sequel at one point in time.
