After what seems like an eternity (read: a couple of weeks), Sony has released some solid information regarding the incoming PlayStation 4 firmware update v1.70, and the new additions are looking pretty nifty. Most notably, the Japanese giant has added an entirely new video editing and sharing software suite that'll give you a slew of social options.

The app, called SHAREfactory, will allow you to edit together clips that you've recorded, utilising a whole library of snazzy transitions and special effects. In other words, we're about to witness a frighteningly large flood of gag-inducing Call of Duty videos cut together with star-wipes. On the audio side of things, the program will allow you to access a pre-existing music library, import your own original music, or record commentaries for your filmic masterpiece.

In truth, this looks like an impressively robust and user-friendly piece of software, that should allow budding video makers a realistic alternative to currently available systems. As if that wasn't enough, though, the patch will also remove the controversial HDCP block, meaning that you'll be able to record game footage directly from an HDMI output. And finally, you'll now be able pre-load any game that you've pre-ordered through the PlayStation Store, a feature that's been touted for several months now.

Unfortunately, the platform holder remains characteristically tight-lipped when it comes to a release date for the patch, stating that we can expect to see it "soon". What do you make of this bumper update? Will you be using SHAREfactory to document all of your gaming highs and lows? Give us an update on your opinions in the comments section below.
