After an impressive six weeks at the top of the charts, The Last of Us has finally been stopped in its tracks by, er, Minecraft. The boxed version of Mojang’s indie hit did its best Clicker impression, and shuffled straight to the summit of the best-sellers list. New release Pikmin 3 was forced to settle for second, while Naughty Dog’s survival horror opus fell into third.
Elsewhere, familiar favourites FIFA 13, Far Cry 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Tomb Raider rounded out the chart. We can’t wait for the Christmas rush to bring a shake-up, because we feel like we’ve been writing the same game names in these posts for about six months now. Who doesn’t own FIFA 13 at this point?

You do know that FIFA13 is only going to be replaced by FIFA14!
@Ginkgo At least it's a different number to type!
@Ginkgo You'd think everyone would've bought it by now. It been in the top 10 pretty much since release lol
Did you know that the last of us not only tied with black ops 2 and fifa 12 for a six week run at number one but broke another record as it is the only console exclusive game to achieve it.
@TOMBOY25 lol really? not even Halo 3 pulled that feat off?
@TOMBOY25 It's a teensy bit disingenuous, though, because those games did it in busier times of the year: https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2013/07/uk_sales_charts_the_last_of_us_shuffles_to_a_sixth_week_at_the_summit
Still very impressive, though!
I hope the industry takes note of this - that releasing a top game during summer months will still rake in sales. There's no need whatsoever to keep all the 'blockbusters' for the end of the year. Unlike the music industry, it's not like "Christmas number 1" means anything in the gaming world.
@Paranoimia Couldn't agree more. If anything, it's games like The Last of Us that offer strong evidence to the theory that gamers want something new to play, even during the summer.
Who would have thought it - people like spending time on their hobbies even when it's sunny outside.
@ShogunRok Yup. Plenty of us actually prefer to stay inside out of the sun, and there's sod all on TV, so games are about the best thing to do.
It was bound to happen. It was a very nice run at #1.
I am sad about Minecraft being on top.
Oh you Minecraft people you... think outside the box for once. A contradiction, and a pun, whoa...
Not surprising, people love Minecraft and the game is available at a very nice price. It was a good run for The Last of Us. A bit surprised Pikmin 3 outsold it considering there really haven't been many ads for it. At least not that I've seen in the States.
Man, the UK really love their FIFA. Here it seems you'd never even know it exists if you didn't look for it.
I understand Pikmin, but Minecraft? That really is sad in my humble opinion
