A look of longing

The Last Guardian is definitely still in development, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed. "The team is still working on it very hard," he told Eurogamer earlier today. "There are certain technical issues they've been working on. That's the period of time when the game, looking from the outside, doesn't seem to be making much progress. But internally there is a lot of work going into creating the title."

Team ICO’s hotly anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive has been the source of plenty of debate since its debut in 2008. The title was originally given a late 2011 release date, but has since been delayed multiple times.

Shuhei Yoshida explained that the delays are due to the developer being forced to rebuild parts of the game. “We had the game playable,” he continued. “At one point we felt that it would be produced for a certain time period. That was the time we prematurely talked about the launch window. But it turned out the technical issues are much harder to solve. So the engineering team had to go back and re-do some of the work they had done.”

The countless delays have prompted some speculation about the game's intended platform, but when quizzed, Shuhei Yoshida wasn’t prepared to take the bait. "The game is developed on PS3," he said.

We’re still not sure we believe you, Shuhei...
