In the beginning

Before Assassin’s Creed was spun off into one of gaming's biggest franchises, it was pitched as a Prince of Persia title. Early concept footage uploaded by Alain Larose, a sound designer who used to work at Ubisoft, has provided a sneaky glimpse at the historical franchise’s origins.

The footage in question shows a very familiar assassin slinking through a historical marketplace, before shoving a hidden blade in the throat of an unaware bystander. The footage closes with the Prince of Persia: Assassins title, and dates back to 2004. Ubisoft recently released concept art from a similar period.

The show reel also includes footage of an unreleased Indiana Jones game, which looks like a sequel to LucasArts’ Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb.

We've included the full reel below. The Assassin's Creed footage starts around the 1:23 mark.
