@Ravix I did catch a glimpse of your previous screencaps in the Ghost of Yōtei topic, before it became a ghost itself. Here's hoping it can be restored, not least because more people should get the chance to enjoy your impressive artistry. I very much agree with you about silhouette shots, especially nowadays when graphics are so good and you can capture so many fine details, like hair, stubble, or indeed, the whiskers on a kitsune mask!
Excellent work with that wolf shot up there. I struggled to get a handful of majestic (a.k.a. bloodless) shots of her, but that's a beauty.
And thank you for the kind words about my own shots, too!

@Kairuuu imgbb.com is a slightly less good replacement. I've just been using it because I can't be bothered to make an account and it does quick uploads ala Imgur.
UK law has done a number on this thread as there are now great voids where there were once awesome uploads 😮💨
@Werehog thank you 🙏 I will have a good look through some of your other photo folders another day too. I know there will be lots to see 😄
And yes, it seems almost strange to think that when games have so much detail now that hiding a lot of that in favour of an outline would be a good idea, as there is lots taken away, but the tiny gaps, intricate edges and yes, even whiskers, add so much to such a simple concept. And I find them really pleasing.
The race is on to get the wolf's maw backlit as it takes a bite! (I'll try to remember to attempt something like that at some point, perhaps) the masks in the game are really awesome to study, too!
I'm in no way going to assume your taste in games, but if you do have a passing interest in driving games, Gran Turismo has a phenomenal photography suite in its "Scapes" mode. I love spending time in it and have done many satisfying shots, but I'd love to see what you could produce also!
First up, please share your Gran Turismo shots if possible, please!
I appreciate the recommendation! Alas, my relationship with driving games is most certainly a casual one. I had Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 and whilst I enjoyed it enough, I never really cared for the simulation aspect. I just wanted to go fast and do sick drifts like a proper teenager.
But it's funny you ask, because I just grabbed Need for Speed Unbound in the Black Friday sales and that, coupled with your question, reminded me that last year, I also played Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered... and it came with a rudimentary Photo Mode, so I do have a small selection of car shots to share! They're probably not as pretty as Gran Turismo, but here they are.
@Elfuggingjefe Thank you for saying so! Agreed on your point about style. For a PS4 version of a PS3 game, Hot Pursuit Remastered is still visually impressive, even by today's standards.
And no obligation to share any of your shots, by the way. I realised too late that I put the word "please" twice in my reply, but it was an accident, and not indicative of any pressure!
"If I let not knowing anything stop me from doing something, I'd never do everything!"
@Werehog Bit late to butt in here with the screenshots you assembled, but I absolutely adore the Tomb Raider one you highlighted above! I'm guessing the remasters come with a photo mode for you to be able to take that one? Impressive stuff getting that one so perfect mid-air!
@Tjuz Thank you! But I can't take all the credit because yes, the remasters do come with a Photo Mode, and it's an incredibly free one, with a huge range of poses, movement options, and a truly unlimited camera range, meaning you can pause the game and zoom through the entire level you're in, no matter where you leave Lara. I think for the shot in question, Lara was originally standing on the café awning, and I moved her out into mid-air before changing her pose, adding her sunglasses, making her hold her pistols, altering her facial expression... yeah, none of it was down to timing!
In fact, the only shot currently in the album that required timing was the one of the stealth fighter jet, and even then I think I reloaded my last quick save in order to properly capture it.
"If I let not knowing anything stop me from doing something, I'd never do everything!"
@Werehog I honestly don't understand why most games don't come with such a free photo mode! I imagine photo modes are hardly what take up a big part of development time, and the self-imposed limits some have on them seem rather arbitrary. Why not let me add as much zoom as I could possibly want? But well... even if it didn't require timing for this one specifically, you still have to have an eye for a good photo moment, which you most certainly do! Just made it all the more cool with the poses as well, so I reject your caveat! The fighter jet looks great as well. It's nice to see these old games modernised so well in terms of their visuals. While I'm not gonna pretend like you can't tell their age, they look so buttery smooth. Seems like some great work on those remasters.
I believe I actually own the remasters of 1-3 due to receiving them alongside something else in a bundle. Would you say they're worth trying for someone who doesn't have any nostalgia for the franchise? Any particular one you'd recommend above others, or just start with the original?
@Tjuz I can imagine having free reign to go zooming about anywhere might cause some (over)loading issues in a modern open-world game, but in older, more self-contained games it's most definitely possible, as the Tomb Raider remasters prove. Funnily enough, the mode has been criticised by some fans because it's real handy as a tool to solve platforming puzzles and seek out secrets! Otherwise yeah, you're right, some limitations do feel arbitrary, and it's a shame there's not more uniformity.
With regards Tomb Raider specifically, yep, just start at the beginning. Even if it wasn't one of the best classics (which it is) it's the best place to learn the ropes, and will help get you into the right mindset for trying the others (or not, as the case may be). Yell anytime if you have any other questions, as I'm a huge fan and have loved playing the remasters!
And thank you. I'm trying to be better at accepting praise, so... well, again, just thanks, I guess!
"If I let not knowing anything stop me from doing something, I'd never do everything!"
@Werehog Ha! That hardly seems like a criticism to me as far as the photo mode is concerned. Sounds like spoiling yourself on the solving of certain puzzles and secrets would be easily avoidable by just... not using it in areas where you prefer to explore yourself first! I've been disappointed with The Outer Worlds 2 not having a photo mode most recently, since the environment are incredibly pretty and I'm sure I could've made some good shots with even a bare-bones system if available! Since I've been playing it in first-person, it would've also been a nice way to remember what my protagonist actually looks like... I haven't seen her look since I created the character! The game doesn't even have any reflections in its mirrors!
But alright, I'll keep in mind simply to start with the original if and when I catch the bug to give it a shot. Your praise for the series always keeps it on my mind, and since I more than trust your tastes in games, I'd more than consider giving it a shot eventually! Having it in my library now already makes it more accessible for an impulse play. If and when I do, you'll be the first I tag!
Ayyy, I figured it out! Here’s a pair of Ghost of Yōtei shots. I have more but I think putting them all in the same post triggers a spam filter or something so I’ll settle with these for now.
@Tjuz Eek! Character customisation in first-person games just seems so counter-intuitive to me! That would be exactly the kind of situation where a Photo Mode would add so much value! Despite that shortcoming, I hope you're enjoying The Outer Worlds 2. There's nothing that says you can't snap a few pretty landscapes, even with a HUD and gun in the way!
And don't put too much stock in my gaming tastes! We may agree on a lot, and that's awesome, but I'm still usually the odd one out when it comes to general opinions!
@Kairuuu Very nicely done with those Ghost of Yōtei shots! Love the contrast between the peaceful, colourful campfire followed by the colder, isolated, altogether darker moment. Looking forward to seeing more, as and when! I think posting more at once is okay, so long as you don't go overboard. If memory serves, any number up to and including ten is usually safe.
"If I let not knowing anything stop me from doing something, I'd never do everything!"
@Werehog Thank ya. I'll definitely post more. I only posted five initially and the comment never really got 'posted' so I held back a little bit. I'll certainly post the remainder over the weekend though!
@Kairuuu Excellent execution of a great concept! I like the use of weather and it was smart to use a tighter lens on the ‘dead’ tree as it makes for more compositional balance between the two. Atsu’s yellow kimono works really nicely too!

Just got carried away in Yōtei at the end of my session. I wanted to just get a close up or any shot to have a look at my new mask, then thought i'd mess with contrast/exposure while I was there, and then it's was into kurosawa mode, using flaming weapons and coastal spray to create bonus effects with the intention of making Atsu as bad ass as possible. Perhaps she lived to become the Villain in her own tale by the end of my experiments.
@Metonymy Thanks! Looking back on them, I'd use more of the 'yellow leaves' filter on the top picture and fewer on the bottom one. I'm still quite happy with how they turned out though!
