I think the future wont be kind to BOTW or Odyssey.

You know how some games kinda become better respected in the future? Not with these two.

@Kidfried We do!

Not to mention you liked Journey, which I... I don't know, "hated" is a strong word, but I didn't enjoy it. It was better than the clone game Abzu, at least, but I wouldn't wish that one on my worst enemy.

I believe you preferred Rayman Legends over Origins too, right? So your preference for Galaxy 2 makes sense. Although I'd like to add that the spaceship shaped like Mario's face was really, really weird, and, aside from Odyssey, Yoshi has never added to a Mario game for me. He's always so awkward to control. There's WAY too much Yoshi in Galaxy 2. And, you know, it's missing the other stuff I liked from Galaxy: story, atmosphere, etc.

You really loved the ghost houses in SMW, and you probably remember my opinion on those.

And yeah, everybody else seems gaga over Bloodborne, but, for me, it was a waste of $60. I got pretty far in before I decided there was no point in playing a game I just wasn't enjoying at all.

Well, whatever. The world would be a boring place if everyone had the same opinions and liked the same stuff, yeah?

@YummyHappyPills Smash Wii U and Bayonetta 2?

Well, Bayonetta 2's writing was terrible, it had poor pacing (the name of the special edition "endless climax" was apt: the game feels like it's constantly trying to outdo itself, and it's frankly exhausting. There's very little build up to anything), boring levels where you just run around and fight groups of enemies over and over, awkward platforming, uninteresting characters, gimmick levels (not as bad as the first game with its horrible, endless motorcycle sequence, at least), and a huge emphasis on scoring EVERYTHING, which I personally hated.

As to Smash Wii U? It just had an awful selection of modes. Especially that board game one. In every way except for the performance of the game itself, it was inferior to the cheaper 3DS version.

Also, weirdly enough, the online in the 3DS version was a lot more stable for me than it was in the Wii U version. Not really sure why, as I primarily played them in the same general location in the house.

@KratosMD I even got the Wii U version with the adapter and special GC controller, but after a few rounds, I just switched to the Pro controller. I really liked that controller for certain games, but Smash 4 wasn't one of them.

Then again, I only ever played Melee once or twice.

Speaking of, why did proto-amiibos show up in Melee's opening, but Smash 4 got a boring clip show opening?

@KratosMD I've... really started coming around to the Wiimote + Nunchuk setup. I hated it that gen, of course, but I think playing with detached joycons has increased my openness to unusual controller set-ups. I played through all of DKC: Tropical Freeze recently with Wiimote + Nunchuk, and I really liked it.

The classic controller is awful. One of the worst things I've ever used. I only keep it around because my mother prefers it to sideways Wiimote when we're playing Toejam and Earl on the VC together.

I probably just need to use the GC controller with Smash more. Like I said, I didn't get a lot of practice in, considering I usually just went for the more convenient and fun 3DS version of the game. If the new Smash supports that Wii U adapter, I might put some time in to learning how to properly play on one of those GameCube pads.

I'm finding Hyrule Warriors to be a stiffer challenge than Fire Emblem Warriors was (I had no problem collecting Anna's Momentos & Master Seals in the latter, while in the former, I've only collected one Gold Skulltuala & two partial Heart Pieces so far).

While I'm sure the lack of QoL improvements that FEW brought has something to do with it, HW simply puts more on your plate from the get go (really the only way to lose in FEW's story mode was if one of your lords, or other specifically designated character, fell. The stipulation that you have to protect your original base didn't come into play until History Mode. Meanwhile, HW makes you watch your original base from the get go, and if ANY playable character falls it's game over).

Still, I am enjoying it (the maps are very varied and unique), just didn't expect it to be this more hectic.

@YummyHappyPills I don't count repeat fights. But I liked how each of Sunshine's worlds had at least one unique boss that fits the level's theme; big plant guy in the first stage, giant blooper in the harbour, etc. There were also some mini-bosses, like the big Cataquaks in Gelato Beach for example.

Odyssey had 12 levels if you don't count Bowser's level and the post credit worlds, but only 6 of those 12 had the boss fights I'm talking about. The pyramid head, the UFO, Mechawiggler, octopus, fat bird and the dragon. However, some felt more like an afterthought to me with the big focus being on those stupid rabbits.

It's partly why I'm not a big fan of BOTW, (only) four elemental blights isn't my idea of cool boss battles!

Just poured 5 straight hours into Hyrule Warriors. Found a new main, slipped right back in and loving it.

My thumb hurts like hell. Reminds me of the pain when I first played Bayonetta and beat it in one sitting

@Octane BotW definitely didn't have great boss battles, but then, I can count the number of Zelda bosses I actually thought were good on one hand. Most of them are just glorified puzzles, and, once you figure out the solution, beating them is trivial. Nintendo tried to change their approach to emphasizing pure skill in these encounters, but... err... they're not nearly challenging enough.

Now that I've started to get into the flow of it, I'm really starting to enjoy Hyrule Warriors, maybe even more so than FEW. While the latter is the technically superior game, HW is simply the bolder game. Whether it's the more unique (and more numerous) maps, more unique characters (it even has MUCH better OC's, with Linkle, Lana, Cia, etc. > Rowan & Lianna), or the engaging boss fights, HW is simply the "bigger" game if that makes sense.

I'm loving Linkle BTW. I especially love that charge move where it sort of goes first person.

@Ralizah That's kinda true for most bosses, isn't it?

I was also speaking of them design-wise. But without themed dungeons, that was to be expected I guess.

Really looking forward to this. We love a good arcade tennis game in my house and we've been getting by on the PS4 version of PS2's Everybodies Tennis for too long now. Day one!

I’ve been playing Breath if the Wild again. I played it a bit a few months ago but got distracted by other games (Persona 5 really), but now I’m playing it again. The graphics and art are great, and the world is impressively designed, but I found just roaming around the world not quite my cup of tea, wasn’t keeping me super engaged. But now I finally got on the Guerdo divine beats quest line, and after being sent to find the heirloom by the queen, I think it might start clicking with more with an objective, a reason to take advantage of the large world. I’m hoping I really get into it, because it’s been a good game so far, but not all it’s cracked up to be.
Also, cooking took way too long to figure out, had to look it up lol.

@Jaz007 I think to enjoy BOTW properly you have to kind of forget alot about what recent games have drilled into you.

I still have the castle to finish and about 20 shrines. Dipped back in the other day for a few minutes but the shrine was really hard and so I quit lol. Might put it on again tonight.

I really hope they stick with the formula in the next game but address some of the criticisms surrounding dungeon and enemy similarities.

Pokemon Let's Go looks better than anticipated, its a Pokemon Yellow remake though. So only the original 151 and probably no post-game.

My HUGE problem is how catching wild Pokemon no longer involves battles. Its Pokemon GO. No literally, exact same.

So, the new Pokemon game was revealed in a Japanese stream. The rumors were true. It's the Pikachu/Eevee-focused remakes we've been hearing about.

Go integration is focused on in this trailer, but it doesn't look TOO central to the experience.
Battles are confirmed against trainers, although you don't actually see battles against wild Pokemon in the video.
Nov. 16 release date. At least in Japan, but probably worldwide.

Most crucially:

For anyone worried that we're not getting an actually new core Pokemon experience.

I think the game looks adorable, personally.

Three Pokemon announcements:

  • Pokemon Quest - A F2P title launching on Switch & mobile in the immediate future.
  • Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Evee - New core title(s) releasing on Switch (this fall?). Remake of Gen 1, with only Gen 1 Pokemon. Battling trainers remains the same, but catching wild Pokemon now works just like Pokemon GO (just throw pokeballs at them until you get it), and you can transfer the critters between the two games. Can be played with one Joy-Con (held like a Wiimote, you swing it to throw pokeballs), and now has a co-op component.
  • Another set of unnamed core games to release in late 2019.

Nevermind, been confirmed you DO NOT battle wild Pokemon. Its just Pokemon Go.

Also no online connectivity and they just confirmed that yes, the Core RPG teased last E3 is the 2019 release. This is a spinoff.

I don’t know what to think here. I’m in a state of confusion.
It doesn’t look bad & I love gen 1, but the wild Pokemon encounters are a instant turn off.
Luckily the main entry is still coming, but I don’t think I can wait that long for Pokemon on Switch.

Time to buy a 3DS? I did miss out on Gen 7.
