@Tasuki It does make a difference, I was getting sore hands on Doom using the out the box grip and as you have to click right stick to do the gory kills, I felt like I was going to break the joy cons.
Trust Nintendo to make one of the best controllers and then make it an accessory!
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
Well, let's word it like this, as this is something that interests me.
Everyone will want something different, something that gives them maximum comfort and playability with a controller. For instance, who uses a GameCube controller for something 2D? It CAN be done, but not a lot of people I have spoken to, enjoy it.
Now you guys, you love the Pro Controller, but there are going to be some people who find certain aspects of it....not as usable, if that's the right way. I mean there's an entire thread dedicated to it having too many buttons on NL (Really.).
This is something as a software designer that interests me.
For instance some swear by keyboard and mouse, but I know loads of people who find a keyboard, with it's strict WASD digital movement, restrictive, as well as constant misclicks from the sheer volume and proximity of other keys.
It's an interesting balance. The Joy-Con by design will be better for some games, for some people, but for others they wont. It's always interesting to see what the limits for people are - it gets you an idea on usage for various inputs.

I really like the Joycons in the cradle actually, and I have pretty big hands. I don't find the buttons too small generally. But I'm used to them because I play handheld a lot. I do agree the trigger buttons (r3? L3?) are perhaps a bit delicate feeling. Not sure I'd want to be smashing them down too much on a game like Doom.
For me the best thing about the Pro controller is I can just leave the Joycons on the Switch while it's docked so they are always nice and charged up ready for portable mode.
Having said all that, this must be the 4th time we've had this discussion on this thread now lol
@YummyHappyPills Which is fair enough and you start a good discussion but no need to tell someone that they need to learn that their needs and wants are different from 7 billion other people. Judging by the amount of google searches for J-Law pictures, I can assure you that not all my needs are unique to me. Of course anything we type on a forum are going to be filtered through our own perception and experience.
I do think the Pro Controller is a very good design overall, the build quality is great, the weighting is nice and I would really rank it beside the XB1 and PS4 controller, perhaps higher given battery life. Nintendo are on to a winner but it is one of those things that its existence suggests, to me at least, that the cradle and joycons might not suit everyone.
As you point out though, controllers are an intensly personal thing and comfort for one is discomfort for others (not even going to start talking about 'inverts'). I was fine with the out the box cradle for Zelda, MK8 and indies but it gave me cramps on longer sessions. I went to EGX with a friend and he has had an XB for all three gens and just couldn't use the DS4 on the Sony booths whereas I've hopped from so many consoles. I don't find it too hard to move between consoles or controllers with the exception of mouse and Keyboard because I just cannot do it smoothly. Of course, a lot of people swear by them.
I'm still on the fence about FPS games on Switch from a control perspective - I've only really played Doom so will see how Skyrim plays but whereas I loved the controls on Mario Odyssey and BOTW, I've struggled with it when docked.

@Rudy_Manchego That's interesting. I grew up on Dualshock but going back to 1-3...god no! The 4 has so many useless features and poor battery that kinda kills what is a good controller.
Interesting to see your friend cant use a DS4. I cant use an Xbox controller, any of them.
I think the Pro Controller is fine for FPS titles. I've been managing fine in DOOM, performance aside, but it strikes me that the Grip ISNT good.

@YummyHappyPills I've gone through NES, SNES, N64, PC, PS1, PS2, Gamecube, 360, Wii, PS4 then Switch and Xb1 (not even going into pure handhelds) but I have also picked up a PS3 since and the controller feels so flimsy compared to the DS4. I guess I have got used to picking up and playing but haven't played keyboard and mouse since the early 2000's. Oh, technically I owned an Atari Jaguar I picked up second hand. Now THAT was an uncomfortable controller.
My friend is also an inverter on all control schemes by default but seriously struggled on things like Assasins Creed which is about a generic movement scheme as you can get really. I was really surprised he just struggled. I used to thik the Gamecube was my favourite but then I tried it again recently when I went back on some GC games and really struggled.
This gen, I find I like elements of each controller but haven't quite reached the perfect level yet. I like the DS4 but as you say battery performance is not great and can develop issues. The XB1 S controller feels solid and well made but is a bit heavier and needs batteries or a pack. I've yet to put some serious hours into the Pro but at the moment it is possibly going to win so far.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
@Rudy_Manchego The Pro Controller wins out for me this generation.
The DS4 is let down by features that aren't really used, a build quality that is "ok", and that god awful battery.
Xbox is fine, but using batteries still isn't great, but it is literally just a controller, nothing special except I think haptic feedback in the triggers for some reason.
The Pro Controller is weighty, has haptic feedback throughout, gyro aiming (That is actually used!), an NFC scanner, and very good buttons all around minus the lack of analogue triggers I suppose but we are already seeing that isn't a serious dealbreaker. Plus a 40 hour battery can't go wrong there.
The DS4 has a very subpar battery, and features no one uses. The Xbox is just a controller, as you would expect. The Pro goes beyond with features developers use, and just a good build all around.
And native PC support.

@YummyHappyPills the d-pad on the pro controller is lackluster. there is no perfect controller but the ds4 comes closest since all the features that matter most are checked. poor battery life is a disappointment, but it's not hard to pick up a 6 foot usb cable and have it charge while you play. not a deal breaker.
@Kidfried certain games are better for Switch IMO, even though I don't take my Switch out. It's nice to be able to play them in bed or on the sofa while someone else is using the TV. Two games I am planning on getting for Switch even though they are already out on PS4: Battle Chasers and Ys VIII.
Truth be told, I didn't even know that game existed. It came out on the system with the largest market share and what happened? Stealth release. Barely mentioned.
Yet here is Nintendo putting every third party game they can up themselves. Shouting about it. I've now HEARD of Ys VIII. Now I've seen it and think yeah that's for me, and will buy it. But that's something that didn't happen on PS4 because who mentioned it?
And hopefully NIS America can use it to smack Falcom over the head a bit and get more games over.

@YummyHappyPills Yeah it was me and Skyrim, infact the reason I am replying now is cause I was playing Skyrim just a bit ago lol.
Honestly for me it's never been about graphics or power, it's been about story and how fun the game is to play for me. For me playing having the freedom to play a game like Skyrim when I want no matter what out weighs the graphical power.
