@Quintumply: Glad to see it sounds like you're off to a good start with FFIX! One of my favourite things about that particular entry was the weapon / skill learning system (which I suppose was sort of borrowed from FF Tactics). I like it as it encourages and gives you incentive to be regularly switching up your equipment, and adds an extra layer of decision making, ie "do I go for the weapon with the higher stats, or stick with less powerful gear for a while to give myself a wider array of skills in the long run?"
The more light-hearted tone of IX I think makes it quite a bit more welcoming to newcomers as well. Absolutely love Steiner and Quina!

I've got a lot going on right now so I'm putting gaming on ice for a week or two while I'm super busy.
For what it's worth, the last bit I got up to was I was fighting a big serpent creature whose name escapes me, but I got destroyed... I looked at an online guide and it said the best thing to do was to back track and get this optional character whose name also escapes me, and that would make the fight easier.
I am enjoying it for sure, but right now I just don't have time to play anything!
I'm surprised no one has mentioned FFX. I believe you can get the HD version on PS3, PSV, & PS4. The package also comes with X-2, which I haven't played.
The way the game progresses it's pretty impossible to get lost, and it's both my favorite game in the series, and possibly my favorite game overall.
