What are some of the best and worst games you've ever played on any of the consoles from the 90s?

The 90's had some incredible games. Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, ISS 64 (the first 'football' game that games like Fifa have refined over the years), Goldeneye & Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve, Mystical Ninja: Goemon, Doom, Sonic, Donkey Kong Country, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron & Shadow of the Empire, Starcraft, Tomb Raider, Starfox 64 etc etc...

I can't remember some of the worst games of the 90's. I know Playstation one had quite a few - it seemed that Sony had no quality control and would allow any game to release so it seemed that most weeks 8-10 poor games would release and 1 or 2 a month were worth buying. I also seem to have forgotten many of the 'bad' games by name and find it easier to remember all the good experiences - partly because if they were 'bad', I never played them more than once. I did play Superman 64 once - that I remember but I didn't buy it. Also had a few Nintendo Virtual Boy games - mario tennis, boxing and another one I can't remember now but they were 'bad'...

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

@themcnoisy To be fair you did pay Corperation in 2016, I got it from cash converters in 96 and it was oddly fun back then lol.

Obviously Bubsy 3D is up there for me. I can't think of anymore that I hated right now, mostly because I didn't play them long enough or they weren't quite bad enough to leave such a long term impression on me. I even have fond memories of games like Cool Spot, Gex and Croc that some people seem to have bad memories of.

I guess Resi Gun Survivor sucked.

@JimmysGames oh my God, the 90s had the pinnacle of 16-bit gaming with so many masterpieces but then again some early polygon based game were just atrocious !

Best:
Sonic 2, Super Metroid, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, Final Fantasy VI, Shenmue, TLoZ: A Link to the past, Resident Evil.

Worst:
Pit Fighter (gah!), Bubsy 3D, Superman 64

Never belligerent but always uncompromising.

JimmysGames

The best games of the 90s for me are

Spawn the eternal (despite the awful reviews, textures, gameplay, and graphics.),
Mortal kombat 1, 2, 3, ultimate 3, and 4,
Street fighter 2 turbo, Rayman, Tekken 1, 2 and 3, Virtual Fighter, Gran Turismo, Syphon Filter, Alundra, FF7, and Clock Tower.

I didn't really play that many bad games
But, here they are

Gran Turismo 2, twisted metal 4, bubsy 3d, pepsiman and mortal kombat special forces

Psx: Thrill Kill (the game was crap imo, but everyone still wants to play it)
Saturn: Panzer Dragoon series

Blah blah, blah blah

Mainly on PC, but Diablo1, Civ 2 and tie-fighter were unforgettable. So good.

My favourites are Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition, Goldeneye and Streets of Rage.

Biggest waste of time and money for me were Beetle Adventure Racing, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker and.... Zelda Majoras Mask

@JoeBlogs I know some real stinkers made it to the N64 too - Superman for example - but lets be honest here. compared to the number of games that were releasing on PS1 and the percentage of 'stinkers' that had, its no comparison. In a lot of ways, the PS1 was like the home computer market of the 80's and early 90's. Every week a new load of games were releasing - for every game like Dizzy for example there was 6-10 mediocre to poor games releasing and this was why the PS1 had so many titles compared to the N64 - it was allowing any developer/publisher to release 'games' on it.

I know the older consoles from Nintendo/Sega had some mediocre games too and I wasn't ignoring those but compared to the PS1, they had a higher proportion of 'quality' (for there time) games. It seemed like every week the PS1 would have 8-10 new releases and often you would struggle to find a 'decent' game amongst them - pretty much lie owning a C64/Sinclair computer in the 80's.

@JoeBlogs Im going to start a forum topic just for you bro! The JBFF. Joe Blogs Forum fails lol. I get your point though and theres always rubbish released on every system. The Atari Jaguar was a real stinker in the rubbish department with only 2 games that were playable.

Never liked to dwell on the bad ones. So I can't recall the worse anymore.
But looking at a list of 90s, some stand out, for which I treasure fond memories:
Wipeout
Resident Evil
Tomb Raider
Suikoden
Vandal Hearts
Final Fantasy VII
Broken Sword: Smoking Mirror
Tenchu: Stealth Assasins
Alundra
MediEvil
Breath of Fire III
Fear Effect
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Metal Gear Solid
Syphon Filter
007: Tomorrow Never Dies
Jade Coccon

@BAMozzy :Sony did have a quality control!
Not that they rated the artistic or gaming quality, but at least they checked on show-stoppers and game breaking issues. At least as far as I know.
So that'd be something that I wish to see nowadays.

And some more great titles certainly worth mentioning:
Tekken
Soul Blade
Xenogears
Chrono Cross
Driver
Pandemonium
Spyro the Dragon
Silent Hill
Oddworld Abe's Oddysee
Front Mission

@0ld_boy They do that now too. No game can release on the PS4 if its likely to affect the console, its OS and any negative impact on the console or software on it. It has to be checked for that but that doesn't mean that Sony check the game for glitches, crashes, in game bugs, performance issues etc. Thats all down to the developers to ensure. Its not like glitches, bugs, performance issues etc are a 'new' thing either, its just that nowadays developers can 'patch' these much easier thanks to online access but years ago, games could and did release just as 'messy' as they are today. People though are less tolerant because they know the developer can 'fix' these but in the past, these were often joked about, part of the 'charm' etc. Crash Bandicoot wasn't free of these back when ND made them either - not sure if VV has left some in or fixed them with the N' Sane Trilogy but these certainly didn't release 'perfect'. Even a game like SM64 and Zelda:OoT had 'glitches' and these are two of the 'best' games ever that if they had released today would no-doubt be expected to have a day 1 patch to fix most of these and then subsequent patches to fix the others as they are found by the community of gamers.

Like I said, its nothing new, but nowadays people are far less tolerant - maybe because they know Devs can fix these with a patch.
