Just finished off Black Sails, (which was very good btw) and ****** hell am I jonesing to play Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag again! I’m really hoping those remake rumours are legit.
So happy with Doctor Who, without spoilers they went for something entirely new and very very controversial. Yes, it’s a bit stupid but I think it worked! And we have a reason for the rebooted series numbers as well, now really excited for the Christmas special. And possibly spin-offs if the Disney money pays off 👀
Another great episode of Doctor Who. Glad to see the show is back on good form.
That bigeneration twist took me by surprise. I was worried that it was going to be simple cop-out at first, and maybe it was, but that bought about a lot of good moments, so I'm glad they did things that way. Plus the new doctor seemed to be settling into his role just fine. And the villainous Toymaker was brilliant, with their actor doing a stellar performance.
As a die-hard X-Files fan, I like that the rumours of a revival from Ryan Coogler at Disney refuses to go away. It is being reported that it will center on an all-new cast, which is music to my ears. I believe that the X-Files would have had a better chance of living a long life if they simply cut the cord when Duchovny left and started fresh with an entirely new cast. Keeping Gillian Anderson was a mistake (even though I can never get enough of Scully) as that kept them from moving forward and rejuvenating the concept. They wound up with one foot in the old and one in the new and the result was... lacking. The revival suffered from much of the same issues, as the fanbase had never been given the opportunity to let go and embrace new perspectives in the same universe.
Here's hoping we get more great stories from a fresh team of agents who can break out from under the shadows of Mulder and Scully. I'm down!
Loved that Doctor Who, it’s been brilliant since it came back. Have to wait until May though!!! Ate a big fat dinner I made as well, gonna need a Gaviscon before Eastenders. Merry Christmas one and all!
Watched the latest Ricky Gervais stand up show on Netflix. Was brilliant. Haven't laughed that hard in ages. He was bang on with a few things about how things are currently.

@nessisonett That looks good, well done on cooking it yourself. Not really much of a Dr Who fan, only ever catch the odd episode of each iteration.
@JohnnyShoulder Same here, bloody brilliant. Watched it after getting back in from walking home in the rain. After myself and the Mrs went out for an Indian, no family drama, just the pair of us.
A bit late to the party on this one… but having recently finished the second season of Gilded Age the missus and I were left craving a little more Julian Fellow’s period excellence, so we caved and have been cannibalising Downton Abbey over Christmas. Turns out that everyone was right… incredible show!
Look like Amazon will start to include adverts in Prime Video movies and TV shows in a few weeks, and to turn them off you will need to pay an extra 3 quid a month. Luckily I don't use the service a great deal, but will use it even less, if at all, after that is introduced.

@JohnnyShoulder I’m saving the Gervais special for New Year’s Day. Heard about the Lineker/Immigration joke & seen the uproar online about it so I’m intrigued to say the least😅.
Also for those interested Attenborough and the giant sea monster is on New Year’s Day on BBC1 (8pm?).
It will feature the giant pilosaur that was recently excavated in the appropriately named Jurassic Coast in Dorset.
Pretty excited tbh. They’ve only really shown off the skull- which was remarkably well preserved.

Impressive that people are still being suckered by the tragically boring routine that Gervais is peddling. It’s the same with Jimmy Carr, it fundamentally isn’t shocking or edgy because it’s all been done before and you expect it from them. Considering Gervais aligns himself with billionaire bigots then he’s not exactly a man of the people either, just a mouthpiece for the very British concept of punching down then crying about being the oppressed sort. Any comedian is a slightly disappointing tour away from some sort of Netflix special with a poster involving sellotape over their mouth and oh boy they might be CANCELLED over these SAUCY jokes and it’s really not a new concept at all. Do we not remember the dreadful DVDs you’d get in Morrisons for a couple of quid out the bargain bin that were just Jim Davidson and the like with ‘too hot for TV’ compilations? It’s all a big cycle and people will soon realise that there’s new generations of comics coming up every single year with actually fresh ideas. James Acaster going after Gervais was much funnier than basically anything he’s put out since Extras, in the same way that Mrs Merton destroying Bernard Manning on her couch should have put a pin in that style of comedy.
Last year I got 6 months free Apple tv through the PS5 which was handy as I wanted to check out the third season of Ted Lasso. I rewatched the first 2 seasons before watching the third and didn't realise until near the end it was also the final season. Anyway, I enjoyed the final season as much as the first two and baring the odd 'beard' episode, I consider it a great show. A tad over cheesy at times but fundamentally a very charming and uplifting series.
Unfortunately I kept forgetting I had it after that and so when I recently remembered the free period would be up in the new year I cancelled it. I discovered I had until the 14th before it stopped so I added the app to my tv and have made an effort to see what I can cram in before it runs out.
I started with Silo and it didn't disappoint. One of those rare shows I had to force myself to stop watching, it got very late and I ended up viewing all ten episodes over just two evenings. I wasn't sure if it was a stand alone season but having watched the finale I immediately looked up if a season two was coming and it's just started filming. Suffice to say when it comes to Apple tv I will definitely resub. I'm very curious where it will go from the ending and hope it continues with it's quality writing and pacing as well as exceptional cast.
I'm thinking I might try Foundation next and I noticed “Killers of the Flower Moon" is coming on the 12th so I will try and squeeze that in.
A quick tag for @RogerRoger as I remember mentioning sharing my thoughts back when I first picked up Apple tv.
@RogerRoger With how it ended I thought they could maybe continue without the title character and focus on the formation of the women's team. I tend to agree with your last point though and best to leave it as is. To many shows run on until they've long run out of good ideas. Probably my favourite TV show is Band of Brothers and that's just a 10 episode series.
That's what I thought maybe Silo was but curious to see how it will play out. I hope you enjoy it if you check it out.
I managed to squeeze in that Ghosted last night. Despite some quite silly action scenes it was generally an entertaining watch. Chris Evans and Ana de Armas are always highly watchable I think and I thought they made a good pairing (again).
show that I am watching catching up on Netflix and Hulu, Disney, Tubi this month for now anyway
Switched at Birth rest of Season 2 on Hulu
Virgin River Season 2 on Netflix
rest of Naruto Season 5 on Netflix
trying to somewhat enjoy Bob's Burgers on Hulu. just started on season 2. the taffy episode was cute with references to Goonies but that was about it. Dunno what's so great about the show anyway
Star Wars Rebels Season 3 on Disney
trying to breeze through old 1995 Incredible Hulk cartoon on Disneyplus
@BearsEatBeets@RogerRoger I can add to the endorsements of Ghosted. No, it's not a great movie, but I enjoyed it from start to finish. Sometimes entertainment is just as worthwhile as higher quality movie. I also enjoyed both Chris Evans and Ana de Armas as the leads. I'll state the obvious and say Ana de Armas being one of the two never hurts at all.

@RogerRoger If they were to do one, it would have to include Hannah Waddingham and probably Juno Temple. Doubt it would work otherwise.
I did watch the first episode of Foundation. About half way through I was considering not bothering. It was very lore heavy and hard to get invested in but by the end I was curious enough that I would be willing to see a bit more whenever I resub for the second season of Silo.
I had added Tetris to my watchlist but never got to it. Did watch Finch. A bit of a sombre viewing but Tom Hanks is always watchable and it's well made. A bit disappointed that I didn't find time to check out Killers of the Flower Moon though.
With Apple tv gone I'll be trying to make time to see the second series of Reacher. With my mum also being a fan of the books I watched the first season with her and going to try and synch up to do the same this time.
@BearsEatBeets Not sure if you are aware or if it matters to you but Amazon will start to introduce adverts for all Prime video content from next month.
Personally it is a big turn off for me. I had started to watch stuff on there again, but held off when I heard the news. If it turns out not to be too bad, I maybe go back, but I doubt I'll pay anything extra to get rid of ads.

@JohnnyShoulder It's a shame. Amazon Prime actually has a bunch of good content, so it sucks if people miss out on it because they've decided to change their model after a good decade. I've been particularly fond of recent shows they put out like The Devil's Hour and Prisma. Eagerly awaiting their second seasons, so I hope those ads won't make their viewing experience significantly worse!

I've been so behind on TV I've been meaning to watch in general with moving and then starting my new job. I've had full seasons of shows like Fargo, For All Mankind and The Curse completely pass me by. Anyone been watching those and got a recommendation on which I should get to first?
