@XandertheWise Gilmore Girls is pretty dear to my heart because it used to be shown during the afternoons over here and I’d binge it with my mum growing up. It’s only when you get older that you realise how flawed the characters are and despair of their decisions! Shame the revival was such a massive disappointment.

@nessisonett im about done with Season 1 and frankly, Lorelai was pretty much a bitch towards her mother.

sure her mother was the old school hoity toity mother but jeez, there were times where Lorelai really needed to chill out when her mother came to visit her and Rory.

Even the grandmother was pretty bad also with the attitude. at least Richard was the only one that was reasonable when he was hanging out with Rory most of the time anyway.

that and they had to cram in Rachel, Dean, and the whole thing with Tristen and Paris. too many story plot stuff going on in season 1. plus the school teacher being a creeper and trying to go out with Lorelai

@Tjuz Yeah, Lindelof has really delivered many hours of high quality TV. Which reminds me of the shameful fact that I still haven't seen The Leftovers, so I need to get on that. I was going to pick it up right after Watchmen blew me away, but something got in the way.
Added Trying to my list, too. Sounds like it might be my kinda jam Apple TV+ is a really strong service for me and my tastes. There's a lot on there I haven't seen, but the hit rate of what I have seen is off the charts compared to the other streamers.

@RogerRoger Yes! Ted Lasso is the perfect example of your original point! It is mature in its tones, themes and, yes, language, but it just makes it feel more... real. Natural, even.
I'm also currently watching a quite gory "Lost"-like horror series called From and the f-bombs are flying really fast and loose on that show, but it actually enhances the dialogue and makes it feel more natural as quite a lot of people would use that kind of language in those kinds of situations. In other words, it doesn't feel speculative and it enhances rather than distracts. Same with Lasso, I feel (minus the blood and gore, of course... think Lasso would have been a different show with more blood and gore )

@LN78 @FuriousMachine
Agreed Leftovers is bleak as all hell so don't watch if you are not in a good mindset but it's S-tier.

Just chiming in here, Leftovers is actually in my top #5 of all time - an absolute masterclass.

#1 The Wire / #2 The Leftovers / #3 Succession (it stuck the landing ) / #4 Dark / #5 The Shield

(Honorable mentions = Mad Men / Justified / Game of Thrones / Watchmen / Lost / Counterpart / The Americans / True Detective S1)

Could never really get into The Leftovers. I don’t mind some bleak TV but it veered a bit too heavily into ‘just not enjoying it’ territory for me so dropped it.

@BeerIsAwesome Dead happy to have them back but still not happy about that Amol Rajan being given University Challenge. Feels like it’s all one big club and only a couple of people get all the jobs.

@BeerIsAwesome Eh, everyone knows who it is now. Dunno why they don’t just name him now.

The missus and I have been rewatching Justified in preparation for the new mini series due to air later this year… such a good show. It’s like the perfect combination of detailed season-long plot arcs (as well as multi-season character arcs) and easily consumable ‘criminal of the week’ shows. Probably been around a decade since we last watched it and have enjoyed every minute so far this second time around.

& @nessisonett I still don’t know who it is tbh, though I’m worried that it’s a certain welsh news reader. Please tell me I’m wrong.

@colonelkilgore For legal reasons, I guess we wouldn’t want to cause any trouble for the site by speculating… let’s just say that I’ve heard the same sort of rumours.

@nessisonett damn, I’ve always rated that guy. Holding out hope those rumours are wrong and it’s someone else.

Yep you personally could get into big trouble with the authorities if you falsely accuse somone of what the BBC presenter did.

You may think you are anonymous online, but they do have ways of indtentifying who you are.

So just use a bit of common sense and don't post any ones name up if it is just based on rumour and speculation, if there is an ongoing police investigation.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

@colonelkilgore Re.: Justified, that show was so incredibly good and I'm reading good things about about the return of Raylan Givens, so I'm properly pumped for that now! Olyphant is so brilliant in that role.

Well… guess there’s no problem with naming them now. Eesh.

binge watching going through Season 2 of Fringe on Freevee
then little bit more of Season 5 of Naruto on Netflix. frankly Season 5 im getting bored of. Do they always go off fighting in the forest all the time?

XandertheWise

@XandertheWise
Fringe is a really good time, and gets better and better as it goes on. I think I started watching this 11-12 years ago(?) and it felt so fresh, especially with its take on the ‘multiverse’ angle…. Well before the over-saturation of this concept in contemporary media/film/TV

John Noble is particularly great, and Anna Torv / Josh Jackson are solid.
Even Lance Reddick shows up and does a tremendous job!
Enjoy it, it’s definitely a fun show… kind of like Lost meets XFiles

XandertheWise

@CJD87 yes i know that. ive seen the show before years ago when it was on Netflix for awhile.

Anyone watching season 2 of "From"? (Just released this week on NowTV/Sky in the UK)

Would recommend this one to any Lost fans.... an interesting mix of horror/mystery/lore, with a fairly unique setup.

Perhaps not 'objectively' a 5* show, it is pretty entertaining with some solid acting performances and an intriguing overall mystery that slowly gets peeled back.

A good show, but could have benefitted from some of that Damon Lindelof magic! (Lost/Leftovers/Watchmen)

Only on ep 4 of season 2 so far, but it is certainly holding my attention

FuriousMachine

@CJD87 I finished season 2 a few weeks back and I echo your sentiments. I felt it kept things interesting throughout the season, as well, but even with a confirmed season 3 renewal I'm a bit worried that this will either get canceled leaving us hanging or just go on for too long with no meaningful conclusion.

Still, as mentioned, it's kept me interested so far, and so long as it does that and I'm enjoying it, I'll keep watching.

(For any Norwegian readers on here: The show is available on the expensive and abysmal TV2Play, and I cannot recommend taking up a subscription to that service for any show on earth, but if, like me, you're already subscribing because of the football they're holding hostage, then it's definitely worth checking out)
