@LtSarge weird, could have sworn I watched some stuff on a trial. Or maybe it was when they put some older shows up for free for a short time at the height of the first pandemic. That's probably when I watched The Sopranos now that I think of it.
Anyway, HBO definitely has some quality tv imo. It's probably the subscription I'd solely stick with if I had to choose one.
My prediction is that Apple TV will end up being their closest rival in terms of sheer quality content. Amazon definitely could be but I think they are too busy trying to be Netflix, so that their better stuff gets diluted with everything else on offer.

@zupertramp Yeah I think these free trials are temporary, but it's no big deal!
So I just subscribed for a month now and my watchlist is already full, lol. Didn't know that HBO has so many superhero shows, both Marvel and DC. I'm mostly surprised by all the DC shows that I've never heard of. It's also cool to see Supergirl on there as I've watched through The Flash and Arrow on Netflix but never that show. Also surprised to see both The Walking Dead shows. I did watch a lot of The Walking Dead back in the day through other means, but I haven't watched the later seasons. I have so much stuff to watch now, it's very exciting!
@LtSarge Strange, I didn’t think you could subscribe to HBO max in Europe yet as they delayed the launch till next year. We are totally screwed in the UK as they can only be view on Sky or their subscription service NOW TV, which is a really poor service.
Anyway, yep Game of Thrones, True Detective, Chernobyl (it's actually a drama mini series rather than a documentary), The Night of, Westworld I can all reccomend off the top of my head. Enjoy!
@JohnnyShoulder I'm subscribed to HBO Nordic and apparently they're "upgrading" it to HBO Max later this year.
But yeah, I've got all of those on my watchlist now and I'm super stoked to finally watch all these shows! Can't remember the last time I was this excited to watch TV shows, lol.
@JohnnyShoulder@nessisonett Definitely could use more superhero shows to watch. Will be adding that one to my watchlist as well, thanks!
Just watched the first episode of Game of Thrones and it's looking very promising so far. Lots of characters and politics, can't wait to see how everything will develop later on.
You guys weren't kidding though regarding how much sex there is in this show. Literally can't go a single scene without some people banging, lol. I honestly don't like sex in TV shows in general because it doesn't add anything of value to the plot, but at least those scenes aren't too long and tend to have a conversation going on at the same time.
@LtSarge Yeah, HBO Max is actually quite good. It’s my second most watched platform after Disney+. HBO Max over here in the States has Studio Ghibli movies as well some select Crunchyroll content, in addition to original content, DC, Adult Swim, as well as new release movies for a short time like Suicide Squad right now (I need to take time to watch that before it’s pulled next week) and Reminiscence, for example. Not sure if the European equivalent has all that too.
I am wondering how Sony’s acquisition of Cruncyroll will affect Its content on HBO
@Th3solution Oh that sounds awesome! I think it's great to know that there's so much stuff to watch now and when Nordic becomes Max there will be even more things to watch. I think HBO is honestly the way to go from here on out for me. Can't believe it's taken me this long to realise it.
@Th3solution Any existing contract Crunchyroll has with HBO will most likely still stand, unless Sony pay up to end it sooner. When the contact is up, the it will be up in the air, but knowing Sony they will probably want exclusively for their own service.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Good to know that it becomes less frequent later on, and yeah you're probably right that they wanted to do that in order to draw in a huge audience. In fact, if they had cut out all the sex in the first episode, then it would've probably been more "boring" since there's not much happening in that episode. But I'm guessing more stuff will happen later on and thus there won't be a need to have all these filler sex scenes lol.
@LtSarge Tbf I believe the books may have been even worse with the amount of sex scenes in them and the TV series had already toned it down a fair bit.

@LtSarge not to keep @ ing you but just remembered about the animated Harley Quinn series which is really good. Also Insecure, Mare of Eastown, and Big Little Lies.
Also The Outsider which wasn't the greatest thing ever but a solid cast.

@JohnnyShoulder Oh really, I didn't know that. Well, I've watched three episodes now and it already feels like the amount of sex has been drastically reduced. It seems like it was mostly because it was the first episode that they had to have lots of that.
Anyway, I think this show has clicked me with me now that I finished watching episode 3. I genuinely can't stop watching it now!
@zupertramp I don't mind at all, in fact if you have any more recommendations for shows to watch on HBO I'd love to hear them! Will keep those shows in mind, sadly because there's a limit on how many titles I can have in my watchlist I won't be able to add them there immediately but I'll come back to this thread and add them eventually. I actually already have The Outsider in my watchlist and it was one of the shows that enticed me to get HBO early on because of how spooky it seemed to be. Definitely could use more horror shows and this one seems like a great one.
@LtSarge Not sure exactly on the amount of sex scenes in season 1, but that is certainly not the end of it and iirc there certain episodes in future seasons which there is more of it, when a couple of characters are based in a brothel, so..... 😂.
My favourite episode is the Red Wedding a few seasons in. Won't say anything not to spoil it, but yeah that episode kinda sums up Game of Thrones for me!
@JohnnyShoulder Yeah I know that there will be more but for now they've at least dialed it down a bit, lol. Btw I'm absolutely loving how many characters there are in the show. Most people are probably intimidated by such a large amount since it's easy to forget some characters. But I personally like that aspect in media, even in games such as Mass Effect where there are a plethora of characters to get to know. It just makes these worlds come alive, you know?
@RogerRoger That's very high praise coming from you! I watched Sherlock years ago so I don't remember that much about it, but I do remember being blown away by how clever the plot is. So I can definitely see why you liked it so much. Fun fact, it was actually my first time exploring the Sherlock universe in any form of media. Well almost, I did read the book "Hound of the Baskervilles" when I was in lower secondary school but I honestly didn't bother paying much attention to it at the time. Watching the show though made me learn more about the characters. For example, I didn't know anything about Moriarty before watching the series. Even though I don't remember much about the show, I do remember that I absolutely loved that guy. Kind of a side fact about me, I absolutely adore villains like Moriarty who you learn more about and understand better. It makes them very likeable, there are a couple of villains in video games who I feel the same way about. Likeable villains is such a delight to see in TV shows/games. Maybe I'm alone in feeling this way but it's just nice to like both sides in a story.
@LtSarge Yeah the amount of characters is impressive. Admittedly, I did struggle with that at first and I know it has put some people off it. Definitely worth sticking with as again I know people that thought it was too slow or something in the first season. Doesn't sound like that is gonna be a problem for you though!
