@ralphdibny Did I just see a reference to the legend that is Toby Kebbell?

@zupertramp also for reference, I didn't really get the whole extended alternate timeline thing either even though Ness has done a good job of explaining it. The programme only shows the TVA pruning the timeline at the moment of a nexus event so you would think no timeline would last more than a few minutes past its nexus event. I just ignored it and rolled with it and enjoyed it for what it was

I guess I did have a thought (but the multiple versions of other non Asgardian characters like Thanos would negate it) that there is only so many Loki's because Ragnarok is the end of a cycle. So there's an Asgardian lineage which starts with Bor, father of Odin, father of Thor and adopted father of Loki. Then Ragnarok happens and the cycle starts again with Bor and so on for infinity so the multiple Lokis could have existed for aeons prior to our current Loki. None of that is explained in any film though so I don't think that is MCU canon.

Also, thinking about it now. Maybe the pruned Loki's are actually just from before the multiversal war. So they have existed for aeons but were all pruned more or less near the beginning of the formation of the TVA. I guess that doesn't really make sense in terms of their nexus events though.

But yeah, as I say, I didn't care too much. There is too much to love about Lady Loki, President Loki, Alligator Loki, Tom Hiddlesloki and Richard E. Loki for me to care about the logic of why it's happening 😅

@ralphdibny the Toby Kebbel one is quite bleak and while that's usually my thing, it was just too depressing/disturbing for my tastes. Like it was too close to home or something idk.

But yeah, he's quite good. Great in Servant, though the show went a little of the rails on the latter half of the second season if you ask me.

In regards to Loki, you put forth some plausible explanations (I certainly didn't know the Ragnarok one) but it's a pet peeve of mine when I'm forced to fill in the logic gaps on my own. Still, the discussions have helped and I'd really like to watch it all the way through again after the second season is out.

For that matter, I'd also like to watch Black Widow again but as part of a marathon and in the correct order. Though I'll probably wait for a few more movies to come along before committing to that.

@zupertramp I've probably done myself up like a kipper by watching that one first then if it's notably bleak in comparison to the others! I did want to watch the rest after I'd seen the Toby Kebbel one, just at a better time when my mental health was in a better state. I'll probably give it all a proper go one day!

I was a big fan of Dead Man's Shoes with Toby Kebbel and Paddy Considine. I mean it's not like a super amazing film and it's pretty on the nose in a lot of ways but it's an important film of its era and i like it anyway!

I think id like to see Black Widow again but properly in the cinema. I feel like the post credits and/or bookended scenes of these films make it really difficult to watch them in chronological order instead of release order. As well as contextually too. It makes the most sense to watch Captain Marvel before Endgame contextually in my opinion. Black Widow would be better placed directly after Civil War but the end credits stinger would spoil Endgame so it's just a bit annoying in that instance.

zupertramp

@ralphdibny I actually think if you were coming to these movies for the first time that end scene adds some intrigue because you know she dies but you don't know how or when. I would have loved that actually. Of course this could spoil the cliff scene but frankly it's not that great imo anyway. But I hear you.

@ralphdibny @nessisonett Good choice of Black Mirror episode, especially with our main man Toby Kebbel appearing in it!

So today is the day that the missus and I have been waiting for, all the Loki eps are up and we’re gonna blitz them while consuming M&S party food offerings followed by an assortment of ice-lollies (as it’s that one time per year where the UK is actually a little too hot). Can’t wait.

@colonelkilgore that's probably the best way to watch. Anyway hope you enjoy it. And I hope you've steered clear of my recent posts. I got kinda lazy with spoiler tags.

@zupertramp no worries, I've avoided this thread for that very reason. Still haven’t started it yet as we’ve had a few chores to get done etc and now there are a couple of rugby matches that I feel compelled to watch. Maybe we’ll do three eps tonight and three tomorrow or something.

Loki (Disney+) - Binged this over the past couple days. Pretty good & clearly setting up the multiverse theme for some of the upcoming movies. I do have a few nitpicks, though. While clearly not as strong as characters like Thor, Loki was insinuated to still be quite a bit stronger than regular humans (in the first Avengers he was holding his own, and I think even had the advantage, against Cap before Iron Man arrived), yet here he seems to have his hands full with any more than two run of the mill guards at a time (even when his powers aren't sealed).

Star Wars: the Clone Wars season 3 (Disney+) - The start of the season seemed to be filled with a lot of more boring politics episodes (like they were sitting on a pile of them they needed to get out of the way), but it picked up after that. I'm really interested because they're clearly starting to tease the return of Darth Maul.

Sword Oratoria: Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon!? On the Side (HiDive via VRV) - Spinoff of Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon!? that takes place concurrently with that show's first season, following the "Sword Princess", Ais. The animation isn't quite as good as that found in the main show (which becomes clearly apparent when the story crosses over with the main series and they insert scenes from it), but it's more of the same so if you like the franchise you'll like this.

First trailer released for next season of Doctor Who and it’s moving back to a serialised format like the older show! It could either work great…. or could be a modern Trial of a Time Lord, which also came at a creative nadir for the franchise and probably killed it.

So it wasn't my intention to sit down and watch all of Mare of Easttown today but that's exactly what I did. Amazing show. Really thought it was being over-hyped but I was definitely wrong.

BowTiesAreCool

@zupertramp Mare of Easttown was unexpectedly (I know it's HBO but I still thought I'd be bored) awesome! There were definite weaknesses in the script but on the whole it had me sucked in more than most shows have for a while. I don't know how to blacken text out so I won't go into specifics, but I had no idea Kate Winslet had that kind of performance in her locker!

BowTiesAreCool

zupertramp

@BowTiesAreCool @colonelkilgore agreed. there were some bits that seemed to crib a little from some Dennis Lehane stuff but any sense that it was even marginally derivative could be forgiven as the performances were just so good.

@RogerRoger Honestly most of what I’ve seen has been ‘Hooray, Chibnall’s gone’ and ‘Shame Whittaker doesn’t get a series under a new show runner to see what she’s really capable of’. Most people seem to be waiting on her getting a redemption when Big Finish get the rights to make audio plays with her Doctor. It’ll be an interesting one though, if it finishes in 2022 then the new Doctor and show runner will be airing in 2023 and that’s the 60th anniversary. So either that’s one hell of a baptism of fire or they’ll incorporate previous Doctors in one big story to set off the new take on the series. I saw someone online saying that a great idea would be to cast several ‘Doctory’ actors and actresses in undisclosed roles and then have the whole anniversary episode be working out who’s really the next Doctor!

@RogerRoger If they did a proper movie then hopefully it isn’t as dodgy as the Peter Cushing ones or the Paul McGann one! And saying that, I would absolutely love for McGann to come back, his audio work is fantastic.
