CD Projekt RED has announced its sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will soon receive the promised PS5 Pro update, enabling enhanced visuals for those who own the souped-up console.
The update goes live tomorrow, 8th April 2026, and the PS Blog has revealed a few details about what to expect.
One major area the game utilises the Pro's capabilities is with support for PSSR, which was recently overhauled to great effect. "The result is incredible, with every inch of Night City — every thermal katana, every gonk on the street, every supercharged sports car — coming to life," writes global art director Kuba Knapik.
The Pro update also introduces big improvements to lighting, with ray traced lights, shadows, and reflections implemented using something called BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy).
Also notable is that, with this update, Pro users will be able to choose from three graphics options that prioritise different things:
- Ray Tracing Pro: Enables all ray tracing effects, targets 30 frames-per-second (40fps on VRR-enabled displays)
- Ray Tracing: Enables select ray tracing enhancements, targets 60fps
- Performance: No ray tracing enabled, emphasises frame rate (up to 90fps on VRR-enabled displays)

Above and beyond. This is incredible Pro support.
Nice! Finally time to play Phantom Liberty?
Finished main game and DLC on Series X... but this is so tempting. Maybe a cheap pick-up after Crimson Desert. Assuming I live that long,
Time to replay this masterpiece!
Holy *****! They actually went and did it! I am so up for playing this again in the full-fat RT mode. That's an incredibly impressive feat to fit all those features in.
Cyberpunk is one of those games I could replay again and again and I'd never get bored. Already on my Nth character 😂
After a possible pro update was denied by CDPR for such a long time it’s amazing that we get RT 60 and even enhanced RT effect with 30/40 fps. Curious to try this out
@get2sammyb dlc is highly recommend. Even better to jump in after the update is dropped.
I finished this game years ago at least five times. Even if I had a pro I'd rather play new games unless of course they added an exclusive DLC expansion. Then I'd try my hardest to get a pro lol.
@Reeneman Wonder if they weren't happy with PSSR 1.0 and that's why its taking this long?
Now THIS I’m looking forward to. I picked up Crimson Desert yesterday (yes, I’m coming around after seeing the post-launch support) but seeing the difference in Cyberpunk on my Pro after finishing the game on my base PS5 a couple years ago will be a huge treat. Enough to pull me away from Pokopia and from starting my Crimson Desert play through a little longer!
Nice!!! I have been holding off until the patch dropped to go through phantom liberty. May just restart and try some different weapons and skills, been a while since I finished it
@dskatter yeah id hold off on crimson desert...its a bit like pringles
@lazarus11 Have you played it?
”40fps on VRR-enabled displays”… sure this has to be 120Hz capable displays?
Sitting here with laser 4K projector with 120 hz and no VRR)
I never played the DLC so might be a good time to jump in!
Still wish they gave us a new trophy list/stack for the 2.0 update. I platinum’ed Cyberpunk 2077 pre-2.0 and want to play it to 100% again with all the major updates on my PS5 Pro. But I’m a sucker for trophies. It wouldn’t have been that hard for them to have made the ultimate edition have a new list like the Witcher 3’s Complete Edition/GotY had. But I’ve noticed a lot of games that have had regional stacks on the PS4 (FF7 Remake, Hades, Persona 5 Royal) do not have similar stacks on the PS5. Seems like easy money left on the table that some trophy hunters will easily bite at.
I’ve already played and finished this game twice on Xbox Series X, something I rarely do. I still load it up occasionally just to spend time in the amazing world CDPR created. I’ve only had my Pro a few weeks…looks like I may have to buy the game again 😂 (and it’s currently reduced until tomorrow night!)
PS: Anyone know if the game has cross-save?
I have high hopes for this
Time to get all those other endings, but my canon ending is still with Panam’s.
@Nightcrawler71 Yes! It has cross saves with every other platform, however trophies will not unlock from a transferred save.
currently playing this for the first time on base PS5, and about 5h into the DLC. it's amazing, but even on base PS5 performance mode, looks insane to me!
Fantastic news! It was definitely surprising to see Cyberpunk 2077 added to the list of games getting a PSSR 2 upgrade seeing as CDPR had stressed they had no plans for a Pro upgrade... and pleasantly surprising to see what's being upgraded here! This could have been a simple case of higher native resolution, but the added RT effects should make a huge difference, especially as the console versions of Cyberpunk only had RT shadows (IRRC) until now.
I'll have to tear myself away from Crimson Desert for a bit to return to my game of Cyberpunk and try this out 😎
I started this but fell off. I think this update, with my brand new Pro, will be a great place to restart and give it another go!
@CWill97 I went through the pain of Platinuming this on the PS4 so I was kinda gutted I couldn't just pull all my Trophies into the PS5 version.
I guess I'm just going to have to start a new character and play it again, though. It's time.
That is fantastic support but I won't be jumping back in. I've played through the game a few times and am currently playing Crimson Desert and Metroid Prime 4 amongst others, so it'll be a while before I'd even have time
@lacerz same here. Every time I start this game another game changing update is released forcing me to put off playing it through. Now I have my ps5 Pro I think it's time to play this as it was intended..
@get2sammyb oh the indignity of it..having to play the ps5 Pro version. However will you manage 🤣
I’m sure it looks incredible but I fell off cyberpunk and have no desire to return. Love the support this game has had though.
@CWill97 Heaven forbid you play a videogame for fun and not meaningless digital participation trinkets.
Just goes to show you that even developers don't give a honk about them.
I guess I'll be starting a new Cyberpunk playthrough tomorrow.
@DennisReynolds could have been but it’s not mandatory to use PSSR on the pro. They could have also used FSR 3 and some games still looked pretty good with PSSR 1.
Not sure but probably CDPR took this decision when they saw all the hype around PSSR 2.
