@Metonymy In terms of my relentless quest to get you 'into' jazz, 😂I thought I'd try a different tactic! Here is an excellent METAL band, very respected progressive death metal album, the guitarist of which had some jazz lessons before getting into metal, as I say it is 100% METAL, but if you especially like the guitar solos, I can make further recommendations. Anyway, hope you enjoy, should be more your cup of tea than some of my other recommendations.
Edit: Just thought I'd mention, as I know you're a fan of the genre and I thought it is interesting to see how these different styles intersect even if the end product doesn't sound like it has anything to do with certain aspects of one genre or the other, in terms of the material's genesis.
I have been a long time fan of D'Angelo, so when i saw the news that he had passed away of cancer, i was so sad. His first record Brown sugar is one of my all time favourite albums. Incidentally D'Angelo loved Red Dead Redemption and after playing RDR2 he wanted to make a song to RDR2. This song is a banger in every way possible. So this one is for you D'Angelo. The best song ever written for a video game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0AykH20X3Q
@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN Haha thanks! My taste in music is fairly eclectic, I’ll listen to anything but something just either resonates with me or it doesn’t. I’ll add it to the list and can let you know my thoughts when I’ve processed them. Cheers!

@FuriousMachine Yeah, that song is just perfectly placed in a perfect game. The lyrics paints Arthur Morgan and his struggles in the world. I dont know but that song just upps the game experience and the idea that is Arthur Morgan and his destiny. It was hard to finish the game to be honest
@Kairuuu Just listened to the tracks on the EP/single "Left for Good" on Spotify, and this is definitely in my wheelhouse, so much so that I've added them to my "New s#!t" playlist which I use to familiarise myself with bands I find intriguing.
The heavy riffs brings to mind Spiritbox and Sordid Pink/Destiny Potato (same band releasing under different names as the mood takes them... though way too rarely).
I came here wondering if there are any metal heads on here who's heard Alissa White-Gluz' first solo outing since she, quite abruptly, announced her split from Arch Enemy this weekend.
I never gelled with Arch Enemy, but her solo single really hit the spot for me. Interested to see how her solo album shapes up.
@FuriousMachine The entire The Death of Peace and Mind album is really good. Just Pretend and The Grey are two of my favourite songs on there. Miracle is great as well but the entire album is just brilliant!

@Kairuuu My impressions after having listened through their discography once is that, at first blush, it feels like there was a shift with "The Death of Peace and Mind". Their output prior to that is perfectly fine metalcore, but with "The Death..." and onward their music gets really interesting, in my opinion, and stands more out from the crowd. I may grow to enjoy their earlier efforts more on subsequent plays, but "The Death of Peace and Mind" and "Left for Good" will undoubtedly be favoured for now.
Thanks for sharing
@Metonymy Great riffs and singing in that one, man, thanks for sharing. I used to love the song they did where the refrain to the chorus is something like "BY GHO-oo-OooOOSTS, from BROKEN HO-OMES (HO-oo-OOMES)" Idk if you know the one I am referring to, very embarrassing if you don't. 🤣

@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN Yeah, totally! It’s called ‘This Could be Anywhere in the World.’ Dallas Green’s a very talented songwriter and his solo stuff, ‘City and Colour’ is worth checking out too.

@Metonymy Cool! Thanks for sharing. I'll just hit the ball back across the net one last time for now, in terms of our musical game of tennis, with this one from Bill Orcutt, the avant-blues guitarist, now playing in a straight-ahead rock power trio featuring the drummer of Sonic Youth. Definitely in your wheelhouse, I feel, man.
@Metonymy Alexisonfire are great. Their recent album is one of my favourites as it's much more of a Dallas album with a balance of the "clean" and "dirty" vocals more to my liking and lots of gratuitous guitar playing. The closing track is wonderfully excessive with the guitars!
@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN Definitely in my wheelhouse, that was cool, thanks!
@Thrillho Yeah, it’s not very often a band can reform after years and then go and put out an album that more than holds its own amongst an impressive discography!
