Viagra Boys* are playing in my city tonight. It's sold out. When it sold out, I was like "oh well, I didn't buy tickets, so that sucks, but I've already seen them so it sucks a little less".
Today, an email reminded me that I did in fact buy those tickets - it was 2 years ago and the date was moved twice due to covid.
So I guess I'm seeing Viagra Boys tonight.

@Voltan Brilliant, I wish I’d gotten tickets to see them in Edinburgh but I was skint at the time! Hope you enjoy, they’re a great band and definitely the sort who’d be better live.

@nessisonett Yeah, I already saw them in 2019 and it was great.
This time it's a bigger venue but one I'm not familiar with - hopefully it will be at least as good

Fell down a rabbit hole of late 00s Scottish gang diss tracks. Lyrics are laughable although I doubt anyone else can even understand them! Also have absolutely no clue how Yat Yat has 1.7 million views 😂

Well Viagra Boys were brilliant. Nice venue too, pretty big one - I'd say there were about 1k people there (educated guess).

Üdü Wüdü by Magma. My first zeuhl album and I really really enjoyed it. All in a weird fictional language because hippies but it results in a crazy alien rock opera vibe. It’s probably less of a hard sell these days than back in the 70s though, with Sigur Rós being fairly big and also using a made-up language.

@render Saul Williams maybe. He had an album produced by Trent Reznor. It's his best imo. Album has a long name I don't remember. He also has a song from an earlier album called Act III Scene 2 which is probably one of the greatest rap/rock songs I've ever heard.

@zupertramp Thanks 😀. Not heard of him before but will have a listen, especially if Trent Reznor had something to do with production.

@render Fair warning his stuff's pretty out there but you can definitely make out Reznor's fingerprints on that particular album. The song WTF! is definitely the most NIN.

Can’t tell if this is hilariously bad or groovy in a corny sort of way. Soundtrack to a book is a… novel concept too. I’ll see myself out.

@nessisonett If that's setting the tone for the book then it makes it sound like it's some kind of space erotica 😂

@Jimmer-jammer Thanks very much for that long, engaging and, I'm sure, thoroughly heartfelt review. I'm glad Bitches' Brew resonated as well with you as it has for many listeners over generations past and present. Speaking of jazz, I was at a jam session earlier, playing some standards, no fusion but I felt I did well and even got a couple of compliments for one of my solos. I'll keep it up, as long as my tastes don't change again. Did you get that Mingus recommendation I gave you a little while ago? I think the album was The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, it would be great to know if you like that one as well, although don't feel obligated to give such an in-depth review. How are you anyway? How's the family? Long time since last spoke. Playing any good games? Gaming is on hold for me until December unless the community recommends something I can get into besides God of War Ragnarok and Hogwarts Legacy which are the only games I'm currently interested in, I'm totally immersed in jazz nowadays.... Anyway, take care.

@Jimmer-jammer Strangers, but I'd played with the trumpet player in that group a few times before, it's organized through a Meetup group on the internet, we just show up and play a number of set tunes that are listed on the website before the session. Good to hear from you as well, let me know what you think of The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady once you've listened to it.

Beyoncé’s new song being a 90s house revival track is a good sign. The 80s nostalgiawank is over, time for house to return.

@kyleforrester87 It’s Beyoncé so yes, it’s not exactly good but it might lead to a wider resurgence in the genre.
