@JohnnyShoulder I feel a kind of morbid curiosity pushing me to watch it, but the fact it flew so low under my radar tells me not to. I liked the first and second one, the Merovingian was an interesting character and the highway scene was probably my favorite action sequence in the series. The third one isn't even a distant memory, I remember nothing about it. They built a whole section of highway just for that second movie, that's commitment.

@JohnnyShoulder that's surprising. I guess I imagined the green was the creative intent to show the two worlds. It made sense to me that it was that way. It must be the version i'm most familiar with. I can see neo in his run down apartment building on his dirty white plastic computer, and I can see the rain by the bridge, and my brain remembers it all with that green tint. Some of the cinematography must be pretty good, as a lot of scene compositions have stuck in my mind fairly well. It will be good to see it with fresh eyes and maybe appreciate some of those details more naturally.
I ordered the steelbook for Trainspotting the other day from Amazon, but it never got delivered ☹️. They have given me a refund without me doing anything though. The reasons given were it was either lost, damaged or my address could not be found. 🤔
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@JohnnyShoulder is that code for the driver said "yoink"? 😅 Or they just never bothered shipping it as they oversold their stock?
I totally forgot i'd ordered two Ghost in the Shell's and was going to choose to keep the order of the one I prefered based on reviews early unboxings or whatever, but they already processed the payment and then told me there has been a delay in manufacturing so it won't be out for a few weeks anyway 🙈
Time to drum up interest in the steelbook reddit so they can sell out, and then I can eventually sell one on, perhaps 😂 the steelbook isn't any different in either, which makes it worse haha. It is only the damn "full slip" that has any variation. Black and green or white and pink, who the f*** knows what I was playing at haha. In summary, I am quite the idiot for forgetting i'd done this 😅

I finally filled some shelves, it's not my full collection. Just the ones that stick out as favorites in various genres. It only took a year to finally do it, no wonder my gaming backlog goes so far back. I still have to touch up the paint, someone else built it and I painted it.
I think the count was about 30 boxes full. It's one of the first times my boyfriend saw the extent of the collection because he came with me to the storage place. He was genuinely lost for words with a 'what did I get myself into' kind of look. I like the results.
I almost forgot the corner. Those black shiny things are 35mm cinema trailers. The thing off to the side is holding music video collections and some I worked on in different capacities. I can't reach the top without a ladder but those human looking things are horror movie toys guarding first editions and factory prints.
@Ravix Go to bed! Kidding, I actually have a lot of blurays too but distributors take the liberty too much and change the original cover art for something they cooked up, that's why I'm not to pushed to start collecting 4K. Some of it feels a little too DeviantArt. I'm on a flight to Albania at the moment and noticed I made a few mistakes that will bug me until I get back and can rearrange them. Babe and Babe 2 Pig in the City are out of order with Cats and Dogs and Cats and Dogs (variant) are sandwiched between the two. The more I zoom the more my OCD sparks up. I think I arranged some Jackie Chan wrongly too, I'm sure there are others. It took seven hours to carefully stack different genres then calculate what would go where. There was a lot of 'oh I didn't know I had this'. The hardest to arrange was going between Drama, Thriller and Action, it's not always clear. The easiest was comedy. It was definitely fun and very satisfying to go through so many and remember the first time I saw each one, memory is funny like that. The scary thing is I didn't make the jump to English all that long ago so most of what's there has a Russian double. The other problem is I kept wanting to watch movies as I sorted through them but I knew it would be a distraction and I wanted to finish before I left. I had to remove some adult stuff too for obvious reasons.

@Vermines Welcome, I think I saw your name on another article. I have a good memory for names (most days) I didn't see your post here? I didn't mean to be insensitive if I was? It's an area I know nothing about, and something my home country censors rather heavily. It's not a willingness to be that behind on something so integral to so many folks, it's a game of catch up and there's so much polarization on the internet so it's quite alien to me. This is one of the only surface web sites I actively use. This isn't my default language either, I have to edit quite frequently. Sometimes my English can seem blunt but that's just down to how I learned the language, it's not a reflection on you or anyone else.
@GirlVersusGame Wow, that’s quite an impressive collection! Makes my little shelf of movies look very underwhelming. 😄 With the evolution toward streaming and digital I stopped buying physical movie discs a while ago, but I think having a collection like yours is really cool for you cinephiles out there. Especially when you have some rare items in your collection like those trailers and then copies of projects that you actually worked on. It all looks great!
So it sounds like the way you chose to organize them is by genre. Within each genre how do you arrange them? Alphabetical by title? It’s hard for me to tell from the photos. Obviously you put a series all together, like I see the Halloween movies together, but then between the Halloweens and the Saws there’s a Chucky movie and Texas Chainsaw. Maybe they alphabetized based on the Russian title?
I’d be interested to know how one organizes these large collections so you can find a specific title later. The same question would apply to @JohnnyShoulder@Ravix@FuriousMachine@Matthewnh and anyone else who has a voluminous movie collection. It would make sense to just do everything alphabetical, but also makes sense to keep certain things together, like maybe put all the movies by a certain director together (All the Tarantino movies, all the Hitchcock movies, etc) as well as to try to put series together, even when titles, genres, and directors vary (like putting all the Marvel or DC movies together, Star Wars, or James Bond, etc). The obsessive-compulsive part of my brain is curious how people like to do it. Do you keep a list like a card catalog system for easy access?
Same question would apply to those who have huge physical game collections. I know @graymamba would qualify under that category. I’m wondering who has the best system.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
I'm really looking forward to seeing The Matrix Resurrections, as I hadn't gotten around to it yet (and this new boxset will be a great excuse to revisit the whole series). When done right, I love a good subversion of audience expectations (see Twin Peaks: The Return as the best example of what I mean) and I'd always viewed the whole concept of the Matrix through an allegorical lens anyway. No matter its reception (or what I ultimately end up thinking of it) I'm glad Lana Wachowski got the chance to make the movie she obviously wanted to make, rather than just another bland, studio-safe reboot.
Sounds like you're just as much a "collector" as the rest of us, from what you told us of your collection - in my universe there's no such thing as "real collectors", just enthusiasts with poor impulse control who likes shiny things (OK, I may be projecting a bit here) So have at it, friend! Nobody will know it was you, anyway - I won't tell
@Werehog as @FuriousMachine has said, we're not really collector's here. I refuse to call myself a collector as it would step on the toes of those that really do have very specific collections. I'm just bad with money and like stuff, and my hobbies tend to have collecting communities associated with them anyway, and i'm a bit of a wannabe geek, nerd or whatever 😁
Looks like I'm in good company, then. Thank you, both!
That said, I don't think I will ever understand when people collect but don't open the things they bought, but I understand it is a part of it for some people, so if that is how they like it, so be it.
I understand it tangentially, in that I have occasionally done the whole "one for stock, one to rock" thing at the checkout, although never with games, DVDs or Blu-Rays. That's more of a rule for nerd merch. I don't even know what I'm gonna do with the half-dozen LEGO sets and Star Wars figures I have unopened; was just something I thought might be smart to do if and when I had the opportunity, especially considering the eye-popping prices I was seeing older sets and figures go for on eBay. Ideally I'd love to give 'em all to a kid who's gonna rip the boxes apart and play with them.
My own 'collection' simply stemmed from the fact I love movies, and I was getting back into physical media again anyway, and the steelbooks came because I had a bland wall that I hated and thought i'd combine the cool movie art of steelbooks and filling that space. So two birds were killed with one stone. And now I like the ritual of opening a steelbook, checking out the art, popping in a movie and leaving the case displayed until the next one is shown. And it has actually been easier to store steelbooks than 4k cases, as the plastic cases look a bit naff and I keep those hidden away. But the steels can be used as decoration and rotated depending on the mood or season. So overall, paying just a bit less for a plastic case seems hardly worth it vs the plus of the steelbook. But I am mostly focused on 4k's that will be worth owning, after my initial surge to get the steel-wall sorted! 😁
Oh, you display them face-forward on your wall, then? That's awesome! I'd love to see that sometime, if you're prepared to share (no pressure)!
My OCD demands that I go for the boring ol' spine-facing shelf line-up in alphabetical order, no matter what the type of case. The downside to that approach is that there are a couple of real pretty steelbooks that aren't getting to show much of themselves but hey, at least I get to see 'em whenever I re-watch whatever's inside. If I had the space, I'd maybe wanna do something similar to you, perhaps with one or two of the complete collections, like Sonic or Star Trek: Picard. Hopefully someday!
The Star Wars ones are good. I have 5 displayed from Obi-Wan, Mando and Andor. Kingdom of Heaven is my absolute favourite steelbook, Scarface and The Shining from The Film Vault are noice, Tombstone is a real looker. Got a set of 'The Hunger Games' dirt cheap, less than even standard 4ks. And now finally have some Tarantino, on the lookout for a couple more. If True Romance would reappear somehwere (new) i'd practically hurl my crying wallet at that! I have yet to sink to the depths of trusting resellers, though.
Just looked some of those up and you're right, they're gorgeous! Should I ever happen to spot that True Romance one whilst browsing around, I'll come right here and tag you!

@GirlVersusGame That's one heck of a movie collection! Looks awesome!
"If I let not knowing anything stop me from doing something, I'd never do everything!"
My collection used to be a lot larger, but it is regrowing steadily.
I place all my collections, whether it is cds, vinyl, or anything else mainly in alphabetical order. I remember Ridley Scott saying something along the lines of “There is a laziness to it. If you are always organised, then you never have to remember anything”.
My collection of Blu-ray and 4k discs are all listed in alphabetical order, from left to right. But there are a few obvious exceptions.
For instance, the 4k of Furiosa is next to the Mad Max boxed set, so filed under M. The three Fantastic Beasts are next to the Harry Potter boxed set. And the 4k of Joss Whedon’s Serenity is immediately to the right of the Firefly series Blu-ray. Strangely, I have two copies of Firefly, so one is totally pristine, still in its cellophane wrapping.
There are so few Blu-ray or dvd discs left, that they are all mixed in together.
The James Bond boxed set is filed under C, as it is called the Daniel Craig Collection. No Time to Die is not part of that boxed set so it is immediately to the right of the Daniel Craig box..
My Star Wars boxed set is the Limited edition Skywalker Saga. That is on a shelf all on its own.
The only real trouble is that my shelving is quite wide. So discs are stored three rows deep. I need to take things off in order to get at the ones at the back, and so knowing where they are makes that easier.
For me, the important part is knowing where things are, and being able to lay my hands on whatever I fancy watching, as easily as I can.
Absolutely, I don't think there was all that much studio meddling in there, so I think it's all Lana and her collaborators in there. I hope you like it
And, yep, Twin Peaks: The Return is sublime television!
Looks like I'm in good company, then. Thank you, both!
You're welcome, but I'm not sure either of us can be called "good company" without at least someone objecting strenuously somewhere. I mean, @Ravix may seem like a good sort, but then comes the attempts to trick me into buying things with the clever tactic of informing me that things exist and can be purchased. Insidious! And we're both quite verbose and weird
@Th3solution As I'm currently hurting for proper shelf space, there really is no system at the moment and my faux-CD (which I call my not-really-OCD-but-kinda condition) is hurting that they're not in alphabetical order by title - which, incidentally, is the only order my brain will accept. I can, of course trick it by claiming that the Marvel movies are really called "MCU 01 - Iron Man" or "Fast & Furious 2025 - Fast X", and so can have movies in franchises together and also where they somewhat predictably can be found.
But alas, the current organising scheme follows the stringent and exacting rule of "put it wherever there's room for it" (and now I hear Steve Carrell/Michael Scott: "that's what she said")
Wait, you're saying this like it's a bad thing...?!
Although I totally hear you. @Ravix has already gotten to me, and I've only been back a couple weeks! I probably should've added some sort of padlocked wallet to the Amazon order.
In all seriousness, thank you, and I'll be sure to share my Matrix thoughts as and when.

@Matthewnh While I love that Ridley Scott quote regarding alphabetised collections, you do then accurately describe some of the headaches it can cause and, in those moments, it feels far from lazy! But you're totally right, so long as you have logical exceptions to the rule, and keep those exceptions consistent, then it's whatever makes sense. Or, to put it another way...
@Th3solution Thanks! If you are astute enough you can tell when I made the switch to bluray. Movies like Bad Boys stop at 2 and I sort of gave up on franchises like Spiderman after the first one. It's really selective placement too, sometimes I like to think a certain sequel or prequel didn't happen and there's a saying of out of sight out of mind. Back with VHS I used a program with a barcode scanner like a store would use, they are bigger and more cumbersome so it was the only way to keep track of anything. There's about 600 VHS titles left, I probably halved the original number. There were many stores in the UK that had gone out of business and they were doing nothing to save them or even sell them. The VHS market in America is massive but so many of their boxes are cardboard, I've seen first editions of Ghostbusters and Alien completely destroyed by damp. They weren't built to last. In Europe and the UK the market sprung about after home pornography became so popular so they used the same plastic covers. Some of the big distributors started in the adult industry, then moved to horror, changed some names around and became suppliers to stores like Blockbuster. The UK was hit by some of the harshest censorship too, the original video nasty tapes exist in the wild but always in terrible condition. Most were destroyed.
I just really love and appreciate the big box art, different cover artists keep passing away and their works not being preserved. Some of the other Child's Play movies are part of a boxset, the same with Hellraiser and another Halloween that went on a limited run a few years back. I don't want to unseal it or expose it to light. I'm sure there are other boxsets that I'm forgetting too but I really like the singles because again you see more of the art and some studios had a habit of releasing flimsy plastic slips to hold the discs in the bigger boxsets. They would either crack or crack the disc. You don't usually run into that issue with the singles. I have a couple of promo rental ones. It's like a proof copy that the distributor sends out to shop their stock. They are supposed to be destroyed but I managed to wrangle a few. The same for the 'for your consideration' tapes and discs from the Academy Awards, they except things like that will be quietly disposed off but it's like Jeff Goldblum says life finds a way. I have a couple of banned 35mms too like the Sony recalled World Trade Center Spiderman trailer, I haven't found another in any other collection either in known public auctions or elsewhere. There are others I can't mention. My thinking has always been that it's better to save something before allowing it to be destroyed just because it offends the established order. Societies change, but once somethings gone you won't get it back.
I've seen some collectors arrange their shelves by colour which can look great but it usually only pops with American Region 1 tapes. Comedy made it easy with discs because so many studios decided to go with a simple white spine along with the logo and usually one of the actors. They thought it was a softer approach to grab someones attention when they were casually browsing for something. I just used what they did and it seems to have worked.
I tried to keep movies based on comics/graphics novels together, the same with videogames, for action I think the countries are fairly accurate. There are some fantastic French ones like Doberman, Banlieue 13 and La Femme Nikita so those are together. British films were easy enough to organize too, American not so much. A drama can be a thriller and vice versa. I only slotted variants of movies that I really like, so The Crow and From Dusk Till Dawn. I put zombie movies together, the same for Vampyres. There's probably a selection of House movies together too like House of the Dead (awful) House on Haunted Hill, House, The Last House on the Left, House of Wax and so on.
The TV stuff is mainly British, shows like Men Behaving Badly, Faulty Towers, The Young Ones, Black Books. Also Shameless, that was a great series. I think I might only have one or two Marvel movies, they kept releasing them too fast to watch them so they are definitely on the back burner. I'd have to organize my Russian discs by the genuine article and bootlegs, if I even can. It's sometimes impossible to know since the genuine print houses and bootleggers work side by side and you can't tell if something was tampered with until you watch both versions. I saw the same thing in North Korea, there were movies but they were heavily edited. Others were/are smuggled in on USB keys, I wanted some of too but you aren't supposed to have them and it's not something you'd risk taking out of the country as they could claim you were distributing. It's probably something Westerners might need to worry more about, I didn't want to take the chance.
There there are a lot of homegrown movies too which are pretty good but break the time capsule aesthetic I was going for. It took a really long time to figure out a cut off point, and then to stick to it. I haven't seen people do that, they usually keep going regardless of the year. For me it's a kind of nostalgia/where you were in life at the time kind of thing. I can look at selected titles and remember. Then after that things probably got crazy and I preferred not to think about it. This way the first thing that comes to mind are happy memories of seeing such a movie for the first time. I haven't felt that strongly about most movies in years, Frankenstein would be a rare exception. It's definitely more about the visual, it's kind of therapeutic when you can channel nostalgia properly. It also allows you to carefully shutter modern times for a while and focus on something that reflects a time that wasn't as hectic. Maybe that's part of the reason why people collect retro games too. It can't all be for the dollar amount.

@Werehog Thanks! I put off doing it for years, actually it's probably this forum that made me finally do it. It's a breath of fresh air being around movies/films as a hobby and not a business.
These violent delights have violent ends & in their triumph die, like fire & powder Which, as they kiss, consume.
@Th3solution I organize my collection by Director. This sometimes makes it seem disorganized (for instance, the Alien franchise is spread all over the place) but it makes sense in my head.
