@BearsEatBeets it looks ok. wish they’d make linear games again , i believe it would look & be more fun if they had designed the game by a level by level basis(and also not a live service ) instead of always being in an open world sandbox . i’m so apathetic towards open world, bring back varied levels with drastic differences again.

I recently started volunteering at a psychology based helpline, finding it really rewarding so far although everything I hear on the line is to be kept confidential, obviously. Hopefully I can move into a career as a counselling psychologist one day.

@TheBrandedSwordsman Hey buddy, doing well. I’ve been busy as per usual, but have been finding a little time for some gaming. I’ve been gradually savoring Final Fantasy XVI and also playing Disco Elysium as well. It’s a reasonable combo to do since the two games are so different.
You’ve really been making a feast of Demon’s Souls. Such a great game, so I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I haven’t thought much about Lords of the Fallen, perhaps because the first game flopped like it did, but this latest one is supposed to be a really good Soulslike. I have it in mind for a possibility later if I run out of Soulslikes to play. Also Lies of P, as that has been well received too. But I still have DS2, DS3, and ER to go. I had planned to get to DS2 by the end of 2023 but it’s not looking like I will. I hadn’t planned on there being so many awesome games this year. I still have Spidey 2 and maybe Baldur’s Gate 3 to try out, not to mention oodles of other options from the backlog. I still lack Forbidden West and Ragnarok, which I need to rectify at some point. But it’s US football season and basketball season so I’m into that, which takes some of my very limited free time. How about you? I see you’re doing the helpline volunteer work and your music, both of which are really awesome ventures. Anything else going on?

@Th3solution Reading Italo Calvino and discussing his work with other people interested in Literature, I've mentioned a couple of his books in the appropriate thread, and given a brief summary of a couple of pieces from the Witcher (Dark Horse) omnibuses which I thought were awesome, highly recommend if you've played any of the Witcher games.
How about you? Besides the sports stuff I mean. What's keeping you so busy? Work? Holiday season related stuff?
Regarding sports, I don't know how you feel about cricket, but I recently watched the ODI World Cup and I know the sport is in the process of being introduced to your side of the pond from reading various Cricket Magazines that are published over here. The result was a bit of an upset as Australia won ,defeating India in India, who had won all their previous matches in the competition and Australia had lost two, they are a very stubborn side, though.

@TheBrandedSwordsman Haven’t watched much Cricket yet, but I have some friends from India who are into it. It’s a complicated game from what I can tell.
Yeah, the holiday season always gets busy and makes me slightly ‘bah, hum-bug’ about the whole thing. Other than that, I’ve been toiling away like usual and also exercising more lately. Just busying myself with lots of little things.
I still have yet to go back to play The Witcher 3. I played the opening hours but fell off of it a couple years ago. I’ve heard the books are excellent, but have never read any of them. I started watching the Netflix series a couple months ago and I made it about 4 episodes in and haven’t kept up with it. It was okay and I was really enjoying Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt but the plot was sort of all over the place and it wasn’t holding my attention very well. I need to go back to it but just have chosen to watch other things when time allows. Have you seen the show and if so how do you feel it compares to its book and gaming brethren?
@Th3solution I've only played (and completed) TW3 and read the Witcher Dark Horse omnibuses, those graphic novels really capture the ambience and tone of the game really well though, and especially Geralt's distinctive sense of humour as well.
I recommend playing the game before reading the graphic novels though, as they are more like companion pieces.

I am quite intrigued by the new Lords of the Fallen game, and have got a couple of builds in mind for the game, well, three in mind to be honest, as I want to complete the game at least three times ,each with a different build, to attain all three endings. (all after finishing DeS of course, haha).
@colonelkilgore 's post about Black Myth Wukong also peaked my interest, as even if the game is just a glorified boss rush, if the bosses are of exceptional quality and possess FromSoft like trademark distinction from one another, then it may still be well worth playing.
Edit: People are also saying Lotf plays like DkS 1 ,in terms of the speed and quality of the gameplay.
Edit 2: Had a look at @nessisonett 's link to the IGN article on the game, above. Disappointing stuff about the misogyny behind the game. Plenty of people may boycott the game, but as one of the people mentioned in the article said, It's still gonna be an important game.

@Jimmer-jammer Just listened to the songs I want to cover for my guitar versions of hip hop songs record, put them in the order I want them to be on the album based on how one flows into the next. Planning to do multiple takes (jazz style, haha) to source the best ones for the record. Will be sure to update you when I release it onto Spotify.

The above video is where I believe Ubisoft lost their way and became the shell of a company they once were. Focusing more on touching up their female employees rather than polishing their games.
Assassin's Creed means a lot to me; I have a tattoo of the symbol, I have played and completed every single game, including the mobile ones, I have collected the books, I own the movie and have watched it multiple times. There are certain pieces of media that enter your life during times of trauma and embed themselves into your very persona. Sonic Generations and the Hitman refresh are others but obviously... Assassin's Creed is a big one.
AC Mirage might be the game that finally pushes me to discredit anything Ubisoft put out. Through a mixture of rose tinted glasses and denial, I have given Ubi the benefit of the doubt for the longest time.
Since The release of the Division and the infamous gameplay trailer debacle (probably even before then, actually) I have not played a single Ubi developed game I have been satisfied with. There is a distinct lack of polish and care to their titles and a severe case of "Revolution, not evolution" [read in Alan Partridge voice]. Notable titles are;
GR: Breakpoint - the gameplay trailer hooked me. The actual game left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

And now, most heartbreaking of all. AC: Mirage. The aforementioned issue of lack of care and polish are present throughout. The game looks pretty enough, but, as many other people do, I harken back to Unity, because even though it was panned, it had the best parkour, the best graphics, and the best world design.
There's no flow whatsoever when traversing the world in Mirage. Remember in Unity, holding O will allow Arno to quickly make his way down a building? In Mirage Bassim falls from one ledge. Stops. Drops to the next one. Stops. I now just leap from the building and take the fall damage.
The erratic movement extends to assassinations - in past AC games if you run towards an enemy, slide, and then attack, you'll do a cool sliding kill and carry on your way. In Mirage Bassim stops the slide, awkwardly stands up, slow stabs the enemy and then starts running again. The game simply isn't fun to play.
Graphically, it looks the same (on a technical level) as the past three or four entries, the NPCs still walk around aimlessly, you still make the most miniscule of splashes when diving into water, the facial animations are from the PS3 era, and the rinse and repeat "level" design is lazy. The whole thing is just LAZY.
Ubisoft don't care any more, and it pains me to say it, but a franchise I used to care very deeply about is slowly but surely losing my support.
@Jimmer-jammer Jazz is the mother of hip hop, it is often said, so the two forms coalesce together in a quite natural way imo, plus I don't/can't rap, I'm a jazz guitarist, so it's also the natural way to pay tribute to one of my two favourite genres, with jazz being the other one, so again I'm bringing them together in that way.

Just curious — for all you Push Squires, what is your most used subscription service? Or rather, if you gave up all your subscriptions except one, which would it be? Would it be: PS+, GamePass, Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, LifeLock, Apple Music, Sirius XM, Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, your cheese of the month club, your theater pass, or your maid service, etc, etc? Probably each of us has a dozen or more things we pay monthly for, often without even thinking about it.
For me, besides my monthly internet and cell phone, which aren’t really subscription now and are more like an essential utility akin to water and electricity, I think I use Amazon Prime the most. I don’t really take advantage of its TV and movie streaming part, but the free shipping is a must. After that, I probably use Disney+ at this point more than any of the other TV services, but it goes in waves. PS+ is up there too, since I can’t imagine not having cloud saves for my games, although it’s not something I notice using on a daily basis until I think about it.
But honestly, now that I’m mulling it over, I could probably do fine if I canceled every single subscription that I have. Maybe I should try doing a personal subscription purge and see what happens. Perhaps I’d go insane. Or possibly reach a Zen-like state of peace. …I’ll guess I’ll never know. 😄
@Th3solution i have prime too, but i use it mostly for twitch and in-game drops. other than amazon prime, just netflix. haven’t been subbed to ps plus in over a year or so ever since i got a PC; paying to use your own internet is such a scam to me and being greeted with a pay screen whenever i want to play online is a vibe kill, so no switch online for me either .
@nomither6 I used to do Spotify but I shed it due to subscription overload. I didn’t realize how much I liked having it until it was gone and I realized how pitiful the free version is. I’ve considered going back to a music sub but doing Apple Music this time, but I just can’t bring myself to pay for it. So I just limp along with Pandora and mostly just don’t listen to music nowadays.
Man, I wish I could transfer my access to online gaming to you. I pay for PS+ every blasted year and never use that feature. I use it for the games, the cloud saves, and the occasional added sale price.

@Th3solution holy s*** , pandora!? that took me back! i havent used that since i got my first ever smartphone! crazy its still around. spotify is fine though, i dont have a sub there but i think it gets the job done for what if offers without a sub.
and i appreciate that man, i got mk1 on PS5 due to the PC version having issues and no crossplay & i cant even play it for the reason i got it for! id like to think im making a difference against paid online by not subbing , but yea right! it is what it is. maybe PS plus will be optional like it used to be one day for those who use it for good reason like yourself and not just as a means to play online.
