So, I want to know about Tearaway PS4 and Concrete Genie PS4 as the other 1st party Sony games on PS4.
But before I consider these games, are these games really pure for kids without any Easter eggs from other rated M Sony games ?
I never knew about these games so I don't want to feel regret for finding the forbidden rated M stuffs in disguise as kiddie stuffs.
Considering Sony can just put any their rated M game characters as Easter eggs on their kids games and I really hate to see this behaviour as it's like promoting cigarettes / illegal drugs from kids stuffs.
@Anti-Matter I haven’t played Tearaway but Concrete Genie is for sure a kids game… and a very good one at that. Definitely worth a go, especially if you see it at a reduced price 👍
@Anti-Matter both Tearaway and Concrete Genie are wonderful games. I thoroughly enjoyed both and I would definitely introduce them to my nieces and nephews aged between 13 & 2
Love how you think Sony's other characters appearing in all ages games are like introducing Booze, Drugs and fags to kids 🤦
I will agree with the thoughts on concrete genie. It is a mature kids game in the sense that it deals with bullying, teenage strife and feelings of loneliness. It is a coming of age story though and also deals with overcoming bad feelings, letting go, moving on and forgiveness.
I'd say it was a kids game with mature themes and is maturely handled. As for drug use or other criminality. The protagonist is a graffiti artist which is a criminal act but it is used as an outlet of expression that allows them to let loose and explore their feelings. I can't remember if the gang of bullies smoke or drink or anything but they are framed as the bad guys early on.
So yes, I would say Concrete Genie sits in a grey area. It's not exactly a puritan experience. I think the morality explored in it is a personal one rather than a societal one though and from my personal and rather accepting worldview, I don't think it contains anything immoral.
Having said that, if I had kids, I'd have no qualms in letting them play it. It's not black and white, but it is nuanced.
One gameplay element is drawing your own art though, which can be used to draw naughty things. I know I drew some puerile illustrations when I played it 🤭
@Anti-Matter if you are unable to play games like astro bot because there are some small easter eggs linked to other 'mature' Sony games, how can you frequent this very website that has many articles on the likes of god of war, the last of us etc?
@MatthewJP
I didn't even care with those games and didn't want to see their images.
I just scrolled down the page quickly to find other thread like Chit Chat thread or other discussion threads.
@RogerRoger
Thanks for the quick review of Tearaway. 😊
I saw Tearaway was much like Yoshi game in term of gameplay style.
Tomorrow is a report day at my school.
Parents will go to school to take the report of their kids, meet with the class teacher, the class teacher will have some discussion about the progress of each students in their class.
Some students need more support from their parents due to lower scores on some subjects, some students need some behaviors change according from how did they behave in the school and in their place.
So far, I heard there was one student in grade 4 that his report paper was printed on ordinary paper, not on official report paper due to a lot of under scores on almost every subjects + he had some problems in his behavior at the school. He will get official report paper until the scores of the lessons are above the minimum pass score.
His class teacher will have serious discussion with his parent to fix his behavior in study the lesson as he had low motivation to study hard, still have difficulty to understand the questions from worksheet or test paper, working slowly in the class, have tendency to get into physical fight with his friend when he felt upset.
I saw that student didn't even have any enthusiasm at the school like I never saw him have good energy to study the lesson. Instead, I saw his lack of motivation to study the lesson. He was also having lack of compassion with his friend so he was easily to get into fight or argument with his friends from very trivial matters. He couldn't follow almost every lesson due to lack of effort to try harder even understanding the questions before answering.
I saw that behavior since he was grade 1 when I had a chance to give him a private teaching for 1 month about reading and writing English and Indonesian language lessons, he just didn't want to try hard to remember what he had learnt just now. For example, I have explained how to spell certain alphabets by pointing on certain letters and when I asked him what letters I pointed on, he just forget like he didn't even want to memorize what letters I asked about so I have to repeat so many times to make him understand and try to memorize them.
I wish the best for him to change his behavior and have motivation to study hard.
@RogerRoger
I have added more PS4 games to be considered on my purchase list such as :
Monkey King: Hero is Back
The Last Tinker City of Colors
Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams Directors Cut
MAX The Curse of Brotherhood
Legend of Kai
Owlboy
Deemo Reborn
Snoopy's Grand Adventure
Tearaway looks like I will consider on my purchase list.
But these games will be played on my another PS4 machine since I have too many PS4 games on my list while my PS4 Slim storage is getting smaller as I added more PS4 games so I decided to separate my PS4 games into two groups.
Group 1 is for my Top 60 PS4 games.
Group 2 is for Top 61 - 120 PS4 games.
The games on group 2 must be played on another PS4 machine, cannot be played on my first PS4 machine as I have to provide at least 20 - 30 GB empty space to anticipate PS4 updates and my The Sims 4 application data size is getting bigger and bigger from updates (currently 31+ GB) even I didn't play The Sims 4 frequently.
If I can buy another PS4 machine again, I will pick 1TB size since my some of my PS4 games in Group 2 have bigger GB size (15 - 41 GB).
@nessisonett
I still unsure to consider external hard disk as they are not really durable as internal hard disk.
The biggest size external hard disk for PS4 I could found was Maxell 512 GB.
I'm afraid the additional 512 GB is still not enough to hold another 60 PS4 games application with assume each game must be not bigger than 8.5 GB, considering some of my PS4 games on Group 2 have bigger GB size (15 - 41 GB) such as Dragon Quest Heroes 1 (24 GB), FF XII TZA (41 GB), Monkey King : Hero Is Back (20+ GB), etc so I need at least 1 TB storage to hold another 60 PS4 games.
Beside, I already have two PS2 machines with different region (PS2 Slim Japan and PS2 Fat USA), four machines of 3DS XL (2 USA machines, 1 Japan machine, 1 PAL machine) so I can have two PS4 machines too with different storage size (1st machine 500 GB, 2nd machine 1TB).
I like to collect interesting stuffs.
@Anti-Matter External hard drives are exactly the same durability as the one you’ll get inside a PS4, and then if you went for an SSD then it would be more durable than the one that comes with the PS4. It’s your money of course though.
@MightyDemon82 I still remember when Kratos turns around in the boat, faces the camera and introduces a sale on packs of Malboro for all children aged up to 12 at your local store. Such a weird moment.
I love how I see actors from video games or hear their voices in other settings and I’m struggling with … “why does that person look familiar?” (Or sound familiar)
Specifically Death Stranding actors have shown up lately — saw Fragile on a big Louis Vuitton promotional board earlier while I was out shopping. And Die-Hardman is the mayor in the new Netflix show Wednesday. I recognized his voice first, because he has a very distinctive voice. Took me a while but it clicked where I knew him from.
I feel silly when I say “I know this guy from somewhere” to my non-gaming friends and all I get is a blank look in return. 😅

@Th3solution I’m more the opposite, where I can’t see Lèa Seydoux in a video game as anything other than Léa Seydoux! When you’ve seen an actor in a lot of stuff, it can be a bit weird seeing their CGI counterpart in a game.
@nessisonett@RogerRoger I think I generally prefer when the in-game character is not modeled directly to look like the voice actor/actress. But I think the trend is moving toward the CGI being a replication of the real world person. Not only did Kojima productions do it with Death Stranding and Insomniac with Miles Morales, but also Remedy likes to do it with their games like Control, and Supermassive (at least I know Until Dawn did), Housemarque’s Returnal modeled Selene after the actress, Respawn’s Cal Kestis is a dead ringer for his voice actor, and Luminous’s_ Forspoken_ has modeled Frey after the upstart Ella Ballinska. So nearly every facet of the industry seems to be moving this way.
And yet some game’s interestingly do hybrid character modeling — so in The Last of Us I&II some of the characters are clearly modeled after their VA (notably Lev, Yara, Marlene) and some are not (Joel, Abby, Jesse). And famously the part of Dina was based on one actress’s appearance but voiced by someone else. Ellie also controversially appeared to be modeled based on Eliot Page without his consent but voiced by Ashley Johnson who of course looks nothing like the Ellie character.
I just think it’s interesting. I prefer a game character to be unique to the game and not necessarily look like the real world actor, but I suspect the mapping and scanning tech now makes it easier to just keep the actor’s appearance intact from the motion capture. I don’t know.
I do wonder if some of the voice performers get offended when the developers don’t want the person’s likeness in the game and choose to make the character look different, whilst other characters look like their counterparts. (In A Plague Tale, they changed the appearance of Amicia but kept Hugo looking like his actor)
@RogerRoger Glad I’m not the only one. It’s like I was saying several days ago about Andy Serkis and how I can’t see him in something without thinking about Gollum in LotR.
