I went to work today only to find out there would be no power until 3 pm. Apparently this was announced in advance but literally nobody got the memo.
So I started my way back home to find that the subway station was "closed until further notice". I decided to walk to the next one, to find a "leave the station immediately, evacuation in progress" message on the info screens. After waiting a while for a replacement bus that never came, I went back to the station to find that it was actually functioning normally despite that message.
Just got home now.
In other news, I managed to get rid of a splinter I had in my index finger for the last couple days. Good times.
@TheBrandedSwordsman As great as the Ashes can be, the fact it's on Sky kills a lot of my enthusiasm and even more so when it's Down Under as it's pretty normal to wake up to not great news! I can't see us doing well at all; if we win a test I'll be surprised. That said, India won there recently and we had a good series against them so who knows!
@TheBrandedSwordsman I’ve got a logjam with work this week, and so I just have to get through the next 3-4 days.
I hate to say it but the pending holidays kinda stress me out. I enjoy Halloween and Christmas (and in the States we have Thanksgiving wedged between them so it’s a holiday onslaught from late October until New Years) but I hate all the prep work, travel to see family, shopping for gifts, etc. Every year I say that I need to start Christmas shopping earlier, and here it’s about 2 months away and I’m dreading it. 😅

@render Nah, I can do most of the work from home just as well. It's just that if I knew about the power outage yesterday (as I apparently should have), I'd have taken the laptop with me and just stayed at home this morning
@Jimmer-jammer No, we don’t really have an equivalent. I guess we at least have Burns Night here in January where we eat haggis and stuff but it’s not widely celebrated. Poor England don’t really have anything at all like that!
@nessisonett
No you are right. I was just being flippant. Just looked up a website about UK national days and there is nothing specifically English. Though I have just discovered something called Swan Upping! It definitely doesn't happen round here though... Think it maybe made up.

@Sorteddan I love finding weird obscure holidays that nobody really actually celebrates! The swan one definitely sounds like the sort of thing that 5 people go to every year 😂
@nessisonett
I might start a petition to make that cheese chasing thing a national holiday. I feel that sums up and celebrates what it means to be English, a comical and largely pointless escapade where most people end up hurt.

@Sorteddan If National holidays have to sum up our country then I vote for a day where everyone goes out for a night of heavy drinking and ends up slumped outside the kebab shop.
